Artistic Censorship and the Creation of Israel (1948-1967)
This article discusses the artistic censorship of German and Germany in Israel between 1948-1967. During these years, with various fluctuations, the Israeli Film and Theatre Review Board, the agency in charge of artistic censorship, actively censored films, plays and concerts in German. Relying on previously undiscussed archival data, the article tracks the contours of this censorship, from its adoption upon the establishment of the state, to its eventual demise after full diplomatic relations were established between Israel and West Germany.

Présents partout, visibles nulle part ? Pour une histoire des élèves en EPS
Années 1940 à nos jours
Cette journée d’études souhaite ajouter, au cœur des réflexions historiennes, la question des élèves dans leurs pratiques et vécus en Éducation physique et sportive (EPS). L’objectif est de se confronter collectivement à un intrigant paradoxe : les élèves, présent·es à chaque période de l’histoire de l’EPS, forment, avec les enseignant·es et les savoirs, l’une des trois pièces maîtresses de la situation pédagogique. Pourtant, leur visibilité académique demeure modeste : omniprésent·es dans les discours et les représentations, les élèves n’apparaissent guère visibles ni audibles dans les travaux historiques et, par conséquent, dans les copies des concours de recrutement des enseignant·es. L’attention sera à la fois portée sur les élèves dans leur diversité, de genre par exemple, de position géographique ou de situation de handicap, ainsi que sur les sources mobilisées pour faire émerger une « histoire par le bas », au moyen de corpus originaux.

Eastern European Musical Culture – Past and Present
“Musicologica Olomucensia” Journal
For our current issue of Musicologica Olomucensia we are looking for articles focusing on diverse aspects of Eastern European musical culture (defined by the territory of post-communist European states). We welcome historical probes into the musical culture of the region as well as interdisciplinary reflections on contemporary phenomena, with overlaps into music sociology, cultural studies, popular music studies, ethnomusicology, and topics such as music and politics, music and national identity, or music and gender. We welcome a comprehensive approach that compares the issues of individual states in the region and places them on the West-East axis. Likewise, we favour a wide range of issues related to Czech (Czechoslovak) musical culture.

Histories of Architecture and Bureaucracy in Development Contexts
International organisations had a profound impact on the global architectural culture of the Cold War period. Two of them stood out: UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, an intergovernmental organisation) and UIA (the International Union of Architects, an international association of architectural societies). This workshop places particular emphasis on the relationship between UNESCO and UIA.

« On ne sait que ce que l’on voit »
Les bâtiments et leurs images comme source(s) de connaissance sur les relations franco-allemandes en Sarre après 1945
Le patrimoine architectural du XXe siècle permet d’accéder à la connaissance des événements historiques que les sources textuelles à elles seules ne peuvent pas offrir. Pour s’approprier ce savoir, il s’agit d’exercer son œil, car – en inversant l’aphorisme de Goethe – « on ne sait que ce que l’on voit ». Le médium de la photographie d’architecture permet ainsi d’explorer le potentiel des bâtiments en tant que sources historiques et supports de recherche. L’objectif de l’atelier est de créer un lieu d’échange entre jeunes chercheur·euses des domaines de l’histoire contemporaine, de l’architecture et de la conservation du patrimoine. L’étude intensive et interdisciplinaire des bâtiments de la période de l’occupation française à Sarrebruck, pris comme source, doit permettre d’ouvrir de nouvelles pistes de recherche et d’acquérir des connaissances sur une période clé des relations franco-allemandes. La photographie permet une approche originale du patrimoine bâti et offre un accès propice à sa mise en valeur en tant que sources historiques.

A Geography of (Art) Historians
The Comité International d'Histoire de l'Art (CIHA) and the Comité International des Sciences Historiques (CISH) played a crucial role in the advancement of scholarship in the fields of Art History and History during the Cold War. Both NGOs of scholars contributed to building a professional community beyond political borders. We invite submissions papers exploring the history of these international organisations and their role in fostering transnational networks, cultural exchanges, and theoretical and methodological debates between scholars. We are also interested in local structures and the impact of international meetings on the development of national historiographies.

C’est surtout après 1968 que le cinéma ouest-allemand des « longues années 1950 » fut systématiquement et âprement critiqué, tant par le monde politique que par celui de la recherche, ainsi que par la société en général. À divers égards, on considérait qu’il « dédouanait » les Allemands de leur passé nazi, voire qu’il véhiculait l’idéologie de « la communauté du peuple » (Volksgemeinschaft) chère aux nazis. Toutefois, un certain nombre d'auteurs, en (re)contextualisant cette production filmique riche et variée, fournissent des analyses différenciées, notamment psycho-sociales. Le colloque souhaite prolonger et enrichir ces réflexions.

Ce colloque du programme ANR EN-MIG organisé à l’Université d’Angers par l’UMR TEMOS, le Pôle universitaire ligérien d’études sur l’enfance-jeunesse et sa chaire ‘Parole et pouvoir d’agir des enfants et des jeunes’ a pour objectif de restituer des résultats du programme EN-MIG qui porte sur le cas français et d’amorcer une comparaison et un dialogue avec les autres empires coloniaux et les territoires qui ont connu des migrations contraintes d’enfants en contexte de décolonisation.

Changes in property rights and land regulation
Global and historical perspectives
How do land reforms affect land access and property rights? Who are the actors of these transformations? Does such evolution contribute to the commodification and financialization of land? How do urban regulations produce informalities and affect socio-spatial dynamics? This half-day thematic seminar seeks to delve into these key questions with two roundtables. Aiming to inform today’s urban transformations through law and history, the six presentations will cover different contexts as diverse as Istanbul, Northern Italy, rural China, Madrid, and colonial Bombay, spanning from the 14th century to today.

Thinking and Making Europe through the Experience of Exile and Displacement (20th–21st centuries)
The conference will explore the role of displaced and exiled populations in the construction of Europe, whether they came from European countries or other regions of the world. Taking a resolutely multi-disciplinary approach, the conference will especially focus on the period that began with the Spanish Civil War and the outbreak of the Second World War, although it will not exclude looking at earlier periods. The central question will be to examine how these actors conceived of and made Europe – how they contributed to its construction, or on the contrary to its failure. We will explore how these populations experienced European conflicts, violence, and control mechanisms, in other words the resources, uses, representations, and statements that have shaped this Europe on the move.

The Normalized, the Normalizers and Their Cinemas
Czechoslovak and Soviet Films of the 1970s
In both cinemas—that of the “normalizer” and that of the “normalized”—the political and economic stagnation reinforced by stochastic censorship and disillusioned society often leads to peculiar examples of mismatched ideology and aesthetics allowing for viewing them as accidental camp classics today. What structural changes do Czechoslovak studios undergo in the wake of the Warsaw Pact invasion? What thematic and aesthetic choices can be attributed to their moment in film history on both sides of the Iron Curtain? How does the soaring number of light entertainment genre like melodrama, comedy or musical correlate with the current events? Last but not least, the questions of actors’ agency in the face of state repression and censorship, of reevaluation of the immense corpus of films created during the late-Communist era feel relevant in Russian and Central European cinema and culture in general today.

Le colloque se consacrera à la relation entre littérature et psychiatrie après « l’âge d’or de l’aliénisme » ( Castel 1977) en examinant des moments d’observation et de description mutuelles qui se déroulent entre l’apparition des avant-gardes et l’apogée de l’antipsychiatrie européenne. Faudra-t-il adapter les catégories d’analyse littéraire et d’histoire des savoirs qui ont fait leurs preuves dans l’étude du XIXe siècle lorsqu’il s’agit d’explorer les relations entre l’écriture littéraire et le savoir psychopathologique dans le contexte des bouleversements poétologiques et épistémologiques survenus depuis l’entre-deux-guerres ?

El seminario permanente Movilidades, Identidades y Patrimonio en la Era Turística (MIPET) propone un estudio histórico, diacrónico y holístico del turismo, junto con fenómenos complementarios como otras formas de movilidad (tránsito, viaje, exploración, conquista, migración, exilio) y procesos simultáneos de patrimonialización, musealización y espectacularización. Así como las manifestaciones culturales afines al turismo y consumidas paralelamente a la mercantilización de territorios y experiencias propia al fenómeno. Con una perspectiva crítica y siguiendo la estela de las ciencias sociales, el seminario pretende convertirse en un foro de comunicación permanente, transnacional y pluridisciplinario para intercambiar ideas y prácticas de investigación en el campo de los estudios de humanidades sobre el viaje, el turismo y el patrimonio. La primera temporada se centrará en la categoría identitaria más popular en la investigación reciente: el género.

Journal « Práticas da História »
This special issue of Práticas da História reflects on contemporary epistemological possibilities and constraints in the writing of history. Therefore, it welcomes both contributions that dwell on African journals (scholarly, literary, artistic and ephemeral periodicals) from the 1950s to 1980s, and on the histories behind said periodicals. We look forward to contributions that explore different and contested visions of decolonization and future-making for the African continent and its diaspora. We also invite articles investigating differently situated historiographies from Africa: that use local vernacular by incorporating idiom, local imagery, myth and folklore; that relate to the present or the deep past. We also encourage more nuanced takes on the “nationalist historiography” that when viewed as a monolith was so dominant at the time.
