Vulnerabilities: critical rereadings where disciplines meet

Ce colloque sur la vulnérabilité clôture un travail interdisciplinaire de plusieurs années au cours duquel théologiens, philosophes, juristes, sociologues,politistes et historiens ont partagé les apports de leur discipline sur la notion. Ils ont mis en évidence tant la polysémie du terme que des ambiguïtés axiologiques, l’usage préférentiel de certains champs lexicaux, enfin les manières dont le concept traverse les disciplines. À la croisée des domaines de recherche, le colloque portera donc un regard critique sur le surgissement de cette notion sur la scène sociale et dans le champ des disciplines académiques.

Sentencing and utopia. Representations of sanctions in utopian works

Ce colloque propose d’interroger les ambiguïtés de l’utopie, ce « jeu destiné à stimuler l'imagination critique » (Baczko, 1978) dans une perspective historique large, afin de mesurer son influence rémanente, et peut-être puissante, sur les législations positives et les pratiques judiciaires les plus actuelles. L’utopie est-elle prisonnière des conditions d’énonciation qui bornent le débat public ou parlementaire, comme prise dans l’argile de son époque ? Ou, à l’inverse exprimant mieux que toute autre source, l’état de nos représentations sociales, parvient-elle à les dépasser ?

Ce séminaire, examine, en longue durée, les liens entre les arts et le corps : comment les artistes, autant que les artisans – et l’on entend particulièrement les plasticiens-designers et les musiciens – sont conditionnés et conditionnent les catégories et modèles d’objets qu’ils imaginent et fabriquent, en fonction de la plasticité des corps ? De quelles manières, selon quels échéanciers et à partir de quels schémas économiques sont produits, édités, diffusés des séries de mobiliers et des corpus d’instruments qui répondent, à la jointure du beau et de l’utile, à une exigence artistique, un canon esthétique et un confort social soumis à des variables politiques, culturelles et générationnelles ?

This special issue of Cahiers d'Outre-Mer proposes to question the articulation between the development of the digital environment and local reconfigurations of cultural industries in the Global South. It aims at better understanding how new technologies have transformed the conditions and modes of creation, production, distribution / dissemination of cultural content (film, music, visual arts, performing arts, literature, etc.) over the past decades in South countries. It also seeks to comprehend the effects on different forms of local innovation, as well as social and territorial asymmetries. Original contributions based on recent fieldworks with a particular attention to spatial and socio-anthropological dimensions are welcome.

As a result, in the course of the late XIX^th and XX^th centuries, media has made itself the vehicle of adult norms and expectations about children’s tastes, behaviors and development – be it to pander to existing tastes and behaviors or shape them to ideal standards, some civic-minded (with emphasis on social adjustment, character building, or good citizenship), some commercial, and others both at once.

This seminar’s focus is on the physicality of English printed books and manuscripts, whether they be strictly literary or not. We are especially interested in how particular editions and manuscripts shape the text’s interpretation and reading practices. Research topics include, but are not restricted to: finding rare editions and manuscripts, archival work, book and manuscript collections, printing practices and scribal work, palaeography, manuscripts as books, the coexistence of manuscripts and printed books, editing printed books and manuscripts, electronic versus printed editions, editing and digital humanities.

For the 80th anniversary of Paul Perdrizet's death, the University of Lorraine organises an international symposium on the life and work of the renowned archaeologist and art historian.All the different aspects of his biography will be discussed, from his early epigraphical and archaeological research in Greece, Macedonia and Cyprus, in the 1890's, to his Late Medieval Studies on the cult of saints in the 1930's, his works on greco-roman Egypt, but also his notable role in local politics and industry in Nancy and Strasburg.

The multi-faceted relationship between the past and its visual representations will be the main focus of the 7th edition of the international genealogies of memory conference to be held in Warsaw on 6-8 December. The agenda features inter alia lectures by Ernst van Alphen, Robert Hariman, Constantin Parvulescu and Wojciech Suchocki, as well as Mieke Bal leading the tour of her own video-installations entitled “Dis-Remembered: A Long History of Madness” and “Mis-Remembered: Reasonable Doubt”.

Fernand Braudel writes in his The Mediterranean and the Mediterranean World in the Age of Philip II: “The Mediterrenean has no unity but that created by the movements of men, the relationships they imply, and the routes they follow” [1972: 276]. The position of the Mediterranean, at the intersection of three continents, has made it a vital location in these movements of men, women and children. These movements continue, sometimes with tragic consequences, to this day. In the Middle Ages, the meeting of peoples and cultures enabled the exchange of ideas, traditions, texts, languages, and things.

Publication of archeological data in the kinked Open Data

The aim of this international one year long post-doctoral project is to generalize the LAT’s archaeological data publication in the Linked Open Data (LOD), as a proof of concept for the French archeological community. This interdisciplinary project is conducted in collaboration with the computer science laboratory (LI) and the center for the Renaissance study (CESR) of the University of Tours, which leads the Intelligence des Patrimoines (I-Pat) program of the Centre-Val-de-Loire Region. It will benefit from the inclusion in the national network of the consortium Mémoire des Archéologues et des Sites Archéologiques (MASA) of the TGIR Huma-Num. More generally, this post-doctorate project should contribute to the emergence of the "Heritage" domain in the Linked Open Data cloud.
