Art Markets : An Integrated Perspective 2020
International Summer School - Antwerp-Brussels July 6-10, 2020
Inspired by the success of the first Art Markets Summer School held in Lyon in June 2019, a second edition of this unique research, training and networking experience will take place in July 2020 in Belgium. A team of international experts from relevant fields such art history, economics, sociology, finance and digital humanities will engage with participants with an academic or professional interest in the global art market. An exciting program combining lectures, workshops and field trips will familiarize the participants with the nature and structure of the art market system. Attention will be given to the theoretical and conceptual frameworks, the various actors in the art market and the available methodological tools to study this fascinating yet complex phenomenon. This immersive experience will inspire and shape new interdisciplinary thinking about the emergence, history and dynamics of art markets around the world.

Données lexicales, éditions numériques et ressources d’autorité – #DHMC2020
Digital Humanities Master Class
Cette master class en humanités numériques se tiendra du 19 au 25 avril 2020 au Moulin d’Andé (Normandie). Plusieurs axes sont proposés : données lexicales, édition numérique scientifique (en particulier d’égo-documents) et données d’autorité. Une partie des cours sera consacrée à la maîtrise de l’outillage TEI dans l’ensemble de ces domaines, mais la master class ne se limitera pas à cela. L’ensemble des étapes du workflow d’un projet en humanités numériques sera abordé, de la constitution du corpus jusqu’à la valorisation des résultats. La langue principale de travail est l’anglais. La master class est co-organisée par DARIAH-EU, Inria, l’Institut historique Allemand et Le Mans Université.

Pathos. Forms and fortunes of literary emotions
The goal of this summer school is to explore the role of emotions in literature, namely with respect to the excess of pathos in different forms and times. Pathos has been a fundamental aspect of literature in every epoch. Great poetry has always foregrounded its ability to represent feelings, evoke intense and vivid moods, and elicit readers’ emotions and empathy. On the other hand, the novel – the genre dominating literary modernity – has been o!en accused of indulging in sentimental excess, giving too much space to melodramatic expression. Indeed, in Western cultures, there is a widespread suspicion towards pathos, which has o!en been identified as a shortcoming of literature. Great books – according to a common implicit assumption – can prompt reflection and laughter, but not tears: pathos only concerns lowbrow production. The summer school is an opportunity to engage in a reflection on issues related to pathos in literature in the last few centuries. Different perspectives will be taken into account: specific literary works, reader response theory, cognitive narratology, transmedia adaptation, and publishing history.

L’école Art Markets : an Integrated Perspective souhaite apporter à la communauté des chercheurs intéressée par l’étude des marchés artistiques une approche théorique interdisciplinaire et des outils méthodologiques en prise avec les méthodes d’analyses les plus actuelles. Une quinzaine de spécialistes internationaux en histoire de l’art, sciences économiques, droit, sociologie, finance, humanités numériques viendront l’animer dans un esprit d’échange et de partage des connaissances.

ERC Advanced Grant MAP project (Mapping Ancient Polytheisms. Cult Epithets as an Interface between Religious Systems and Human Agency)
The ERC Advanced Grant MAP project (Mapping Ancient Polytheisms. Cult Epithets as an Interface between Religious Systems and Human Agency; 741182; http://map-polytheisms.huma-num.fr1) works on the naming systems for the divine in the Greek and Western Semitic worlds, from 1000 BCE to 400 CE and views them as testimonies to the way in which divine powers are constructed, arranged and involved within ritual. The analysis deals both with the structural aspects of the religious systems and with their contextual appropriation by social participants. Considered to be elements of a complex language, the onomastic channels are related to the gods, therefore providing access to a mapping process of the divine, to its ways of representation and to the communication strategies between men and gods.Within this framework, the MAP Team proposes a Summer School in collaboration with the French Research Centre in Jerusalem (http://www.crfj.org) which covers the project’s themes and tools.

Perspectives pour une révision de l'histoire juive médiévale avant 1300
L'université d'été du projet-pilote franco-allemand « Nouvelle Gallia-Germania Judaica » est destinée aux jeunes chercheurs autour. Elle ambitionne de relever le défi thématique et technique de l'écriture d'une nouvelle histoire des lieux juifs avant 1300 au long du Rhin. À partir de sept lieux représentatifs du Moyen-Âge juif en France et en Allemagne, les interprétations traditionnelles de l'histoire juive de ces lieux sont examinés à la loupe et servent de « champ d’expérimentation » pour identifier ainsi que pour mettre en cause de manière critique différentes approches de recherche.

Masterclass franco-allemande en humanités numériques
Cette master class franco-allemande en humanités numériques vise à rassembler huit jeunes chercheurs allemands et huit jeunes chercheurs français participant à ou porteurs de projets en humanités numériques et à leur offrir un forum où échanger de manière fructueuse pour la poursuite de leur recherche, autour de la question de la gestion des données de la recherche. Chacun(e) doit être prêt à présenter son projet (et les données afférentes sous un format ouvert) et à le mettre en dialogue avec ceux des autres particpant(e)s dans un type de rencontre proche d’un THATCamp, c’est-à-dire sans enseignement magistral ni exposé frontal.

École d’été DARIAH
La journée inaugurale introduira les problématiques et objectifs de cette école d’été. Les journées suivantes alterneront des matinées de présentations et des après-midis d’ateliers de mise en œuvre pratique en groupes. Les stagiaires apprendront à traiter les documents sources dans un environnement numérique avec des outils adaptés. Plusieurs documents patrimoniaux sélectionnés dans les fonds des bibliothèques et archives du Mans, du Maine et de l’Anjou, préalablement préparés en version numérique, serviront d’appui aux exercices. Des conférences, ouvertes au public, de spécialistes internationaux clôtureront les journées sur plusieurs aspects de la « Bibliotheca digitalis ».

Today, historians are increasingly confronted with questions about the use of primary sources. How does one deal with historical primary sources in the Digital Age? What peculiarities present sources, which have been digitized, or which originated in digital form–so-called “born-digital” sources? How do we read them? How do we interpret them? How can they be used in order to construct a historical narrative?
This four-day Summer School offers historians (PhD-candidates, graduates students, established historians) the opportunity to acquire the basic principles of data usage in the historical sciences, and benefit from insights gained in other humanities and social sciences disciplines.

L’objectif est de permettre aux étudiants de doctorat de se former aux méthodes de structurations des données, ainsi qu’aux enjeux historiographiques et épistémologiques de leur application aux sciences sociales en générale, et à l’histoire en particulier. Il s’agit donc d’articuler la théorie et la découverte des notions qui sous-tendent l’édification d’une base de données (structuration, architecture, modèle conceptuel des données…) et leur exploration statistique (statistique descriptive, multivariée, exploratoire). Pour atteindre cet objectif, cette semaine s’organisera sur un schéma simple : les matinées commencerons par une heure de discussion sur des lectures recommandées ou des exercices à réaliser, suivie par des conférences méthodologiques ; les après-midis sont consacrés à des prises en main logiciels et des expérimentations individuelles ou en groupes pour favoriser l’apprentissage.

Université d'été en humanités numériques
L’importance croissante du tournant numérique a affecté profondément les sciences humaines : il a modifié la nature et les modalités de construction des savoirs, fait émerger de nouvelles méthodes d’analyse – empiriques et quantitatives –, et transformé les procédés didactiques et les pratiques de recherche. Dans le prolongement de ses activités scientifiques, le labex OBVIL propose du 4 au 9 juillet une semaine de formation en humanités numériques. Le programme de cette année s’intéressera principalement à la poésie, au théâtre, au roman et à la critique en présentant l’état de l’art des différents concepts et instruments qui peuvent être mis en œuvre pour interroger les textes.
