Au croisement du linguistique et de l’éducatif, du social et du politique, le Séminaire doctoral international réunit chaque année des enseignants-chercheurs et de jeunes chercheurs concernés par l’appropriation et la transmission des langues et des cultures. Conçu comme un outil de formation à la recherche, à l’initiative du monde académique, au bénéfice des professionnels impliqués dans la diffusion et l’enseignement des langues, fondé sur l’échange scientifique entre jeunes chercheurs, universitaires et experts confirmés, en présentiel, par un dispositif de visio-conférence ou par une plate-forme d’échange, le Séminaire propose d’engager la réflexion scientifique internationalisée par un programme incitatif comportant des conférences plénières de chercheurs de premier plan issus de champs disciplinaires complémentaires et des ateliers consacrés à la présentation par les jeunes chercheurs de leurs travaux. Les langues de travail sont le français et l’anglais.

Les langues de travail sont le français et l’anglais. On envisage la publication électronique des meilleurs travaux de recherche sur un site bilingue.

Le Séminaire est coordonné par l’Equipe d’accueil EA 4514 PLIDAM (Pluralité des Langues et des Identités : Didactique, Acquisition, Médiations). Il s’inscrit dans la continuité des publications de l’Equipe (notamment : Précis du plurilinguisme et du pluriculturalisme / Handbook of Multilingualism and Multiculturalism, sous la direction de Geneviève Zarate, Danielle Lévy et Claire Kramsch, Editions des archives contemporains, Paris, 2008 ; version anglaise : 2011) et de ses manifestations internationales (en particulier : Quelle didactique plurilingue et pluriculturelle en contexte mondialisé ? / Plurilingualism and Pluriculturalism in a Globalised World : Which Pedagogy ?, Paris 17-19 juin 2010, colloque co-organisé par PLIDAM et le Centre for Excellence in the Teaching and Learning of Languages of the Wider World (SOAS-UCL).

Il permet la confrontation de travaux menés dans le cadre de la didactique des langues et des cultures ayant pour finalité de décloisonner ses relations avec des disciplines telles que sciences de l'éducation, politique linguistique et gestion du plurilinguisme, communication interculturelle, sociologie, anthropologie sociale, linguistique contrastive, linguistique de corpus, psycholinguistique et sociolinguistique, traductologie et interprétation, lexicographie, terminologie, conception de ressources numériques et d'environnements multimédia ...

Le Séminaire s'adresse prioritairement aux doctorants des directeurs de recherche partenaires ; il est ouvert également aux étudiants inscrits en master, ainsi qu’aux jeunes docteurs travaillant dans des contextes académiques et linguistiques variés, sans condition de nationalité.

Une attention particulière est portée à la description et à la compréhension de la diversité linguistique et culturelle, ainsi qu’à sa reconnaissance en didactique des langues et des cultures. Le Séminaire vise à désenclaver les ressources scientifiques liées aux « langues rares », appelées aussi « les langues les moins diffusées et les moins enseignées », et engage une coopération réciproque avec les langues qui ont historiquement développé une réflexion linguistique et didactique pour renouveler les problématiques et concepts théoriques.

Il s’agit d’offrir un éclairage pluridisciplinaire sur - l’enseignement et l’apprentissage des langues et des cultures : contextes, pratiques, méthodes, supports, espaces et dispositifs de formation, acquisition et évaluation en situation bi- et plurilingue ; - la construction des savoirs en didactique des langues et des cultures au regard des catégories usuelles telles lexique, grammaire, phonétique, civilisation, littérature,  traduction ; - les liens entre les langues,  les dynamiques identitaires, les représentations sociales, locales, régionales, nationales et la mondialisation (contacts, métissages, conflits).

Le Séminaire se fixe plusieurs missions essentielles.

  • Le Séminaire est conçu comme un espace de débat, destiné à questionner mais aussi à enrichir les recherches en cours notamment par la mobilité d'enseignants, de chercheurs, de professionnels, de doctorants et d’étudiants avancés entre institutions différentes.
• formation méthodologique interdisciplinaire
  • Le Séminaire permet aux jeunes chercheurs de prendre conscience de la complexité et de l’interdisciplinarité de leur objet d’étude, de valider leur démarche de recherche et d’initier le contact avec une expertise internationale.
• insertion professionnelle
  • En associant les jeunes chercheurs à un réseau scientifique international, le Séminaire met l’accent sur le développement des leurs compétences en dialogue avec les professionnels impliqués dans la diffusion et l’enseignement des langues.
• articulation Europe - hors-Europe
  • Le Séminaire a pour ambition d’être à la pointe des efforts entrepris par les universités françaises et européennes pour créer des dispositifs transnationaux de coopération scientifique tout en favorisant la participation des chercheurs non-européens.
• visibilité de la formation doctorale
  • Le Séminaire souhaite concourir à la mise en cohérence du potentiel scientifique et à l’attractivité de l'offre de formation des établissements partenaires, aux plans national et international.
• émergence de nouveaux partenariats
  • Le Séminaire favorise les partenariats académiques de haut niveau et suscite la conception de projets innovants entre les établissements partenaires, au cœur et aux frontières des disciplines traitées.

INTERNATIONAL DOCTORAL SEMINAR, PLIDAM  

Set at the crossroads of all that is related to language and education, and their connection with society and politics, this International PhD Seminar brings together each year university lecturers, research fellows and doctoral students concerned with the subject of learning and teaching languages and cultures. An initiative of the academic world for professionals involved in the teaching and promotion of languages, the seminar is meant to be an on-site research training tool based on a scientific exchange between young researchers, university lecturers and researchers, and experienced experts, who will be linked via video-conference or an exchange platform. The Seminar intends to engage in an international scientific reflection through a stimulating programme consisting of plenary lectures by experienced researchers selected from very complementary disciplines as well as workshops for the presentation of the work of young researchers. French and English are the working languages of this Seminar which plans to publish the best research materials, on a bilingual website.

The research team PLIDAM EA 4514 coordinates the Seminar whose creation must be seen as a continuation of the team’s recent publications (especially: Précis du plurilinguisme et du pluriculturalisme (2008) / Handbook of Multilingualism and Multiculturalism (2011), coordinated by Geneviève Zarate, Danielle Lévy and Claire Kramsch, Editions des archives contemporaines, Paris) as well as its international events (particularly : Quelle didactique plurilingue et pluriculturelle en contexte mondialisé ? / Plurilingualism and Pluriculturalism in a Globalised World : Which Pedagogy ?, Paris 17-19 juin 2010, Conference co-organised by PLIDAM and the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, SOAS-UCL).

The seminar is to be viewed as a meeting point for research carried out within the framework of  the Pedagogy of languages and cultures and with the aim of decompartimentalizing its relationships with fields such as Education, language policy and management of multilingualism, intercultural communication, sociology, social anthropology, contrastive linguistics, corpus linguistics, psycholinguistics and sociolinguistics, translation and interpretation, lexicography, terminology, creation of digital resources and multimedia environments, etc.

Created primarily for PhD students, the Seminar is also open to advanced MA students as well as recent PhD holders working in diverse academic and linguistic contexts, without any conditions of nationality.

Special attention is paid to the description and understanding of linguistic and cultural diversity as well as its acceptance in the learning and teaching of language and culture. The Seminar seeks to open up scientific resources linked to languages often referred to as “the less commonly taught languages” and to engage in some form of reciprocal cooperation with others which have historically developed a linguistic and pedagogical reflection, in order to renew the theoretical issues and concepts.

Its purpose is to throw a multidisciplinary light on: - the teaching and learning of languages and cultures: contexts, practices, methods, tools, training spaces and equipments, acquisition and assessment in bilingual and multilingual situations, - the construction of knowledge in language and culture pedagogy, and didactics in the light of such common categories as lexis, grammar, phonetics, civilization, literature, translation, - the link between languages, dynamics of identity, social, local, regional and national representations, and globalization (contacts, hybridities, conflicts).

The Seminar’s key tasks include:

• creating a synergy of knowledge
  • The Seminar is meant to be a space for debate questioning and enriching research in progress especially through the mobility of teachers, researchers, professionals, doctoral students and advanced students between institutions.
• proposing an interdisciplinary training in methodology
  • The seminar enables young researchers to become aware of the complexity and interdisciplinary nature of their object of study, to validate their research methodology and to develop contacts with an international expertise.
• preparing for the labour market
  • By linking young researchers with an international scientific network, the Seminar aims at developing their competences and at encouraging exchanges with professionals, making their quality correspond to the demands of professionals involved in the promotion and teaching of languages.
• articulating an European outlook and cooperation with other countries
  • The Seminar seeks to be at the forefront of efforts made by French and European universities to create transnational resources of scientific cooperation and to favour participation of researchers from developing countries. 
• giving visibility to PhD training
  • The Seminar aspires to contribute to giving coherence to the scientific potential of, and to the attractiveness of the quality of training proposed by partner institutions, both at the national and international levels.
• contributing to the emergence of new partnerships
  • The Seminar favours high level academic partnerships and encourages the creation of innovative projects between partner institutions by being at the forefront of the activities of the disciplines concerned.
