StartseiteHomo Byzantinus

Argument
Inspired by the notorious “Uomo bizantino” by Guglielmo Cavallo (published by Laterza in 1992) and by the works of Alexander Kazhdan, especially “People and power in Byzantium”, our next issue will deal with the main social and anthropological aspects related to the prototype of the “Byzantine Man”. The issue will endeavour to encompass the main and most representative characters within Byzantine society.
The aim is to define behavioural patterns belonging to the “Homo Byzantinus”, according to both age and social setting. Emperors, friars, soldiers and writers, for instance, are key figures that enable us to understand Byzantine society from an anthropological perspective.
