Summary
Economic crisis has turned on lights on Mediterranean Europe’s countries and the role-played in the European integration process and as interface between the EU and countries, policies and cultures coming from Mediterranean Area. Moreover, events such the Arab Spring have brought back the idea of Mediterranean as a wide and complex meeting place where cultures, faiths, different political and social experiences meet, and sometimes clash, developing opportunities of dialogue and integration.

Argument
Economic crisis has turned on lights on Mediterranean Europe’s countries and the role-played in the European integration process and as interface between the EU and countries, policies and cultures coming from Mediterranean Area. Moreover, events such the Arab Spring have brought back the idea of Mediterranean as a wide and complex meeting place where cultures, faiths, different political and social experiences meet, and sometimes clash, developing opportunities of dialogue and integration.
“Officina della Storia” (www.officinadellastoria.eu) and Centre for the study of Mediterranean Europe (www.cssem.org) aims to transpose that place within a monographic number of the e-Journal focusing it on four main topics:
- Spaces: the evolution of Mediterranean Europe during the European integration process and the forthcoming steps: the enlargements, the relationships with Third Countries, the Euro-Mediterranean cooperation projects;
- Cultures: the Mediterranean as a meeting place among languages, faiths, cultures, arts such music, painting, literature, movies, sports and universities;
- Policies: the impact of common policies over Mediterranean Europe and as a tool of EU’s strategies in the Mediterranean Area (human rights, gender equality, immigration);
- Players: institutions, leaders, parties, movements and association both at local, national and transnational level that contribute to the development of a Mediterranean approach to the European integration and that promote Euro-Mediterranean dialogue.
