The European Research Council (ERC) project Philosophy of Canonical Quantum Gravity announces a 3-year PhD position. The profile of the searched candidate is that of a candidate with a strong background in mathematical physics interested in the conceptual and mathematical foundations of theoretical physics.

Missions

Le Projet ERC Philosophy of Canonical Quantum Gravity lance un appel à candidature pour  une bourse de thèse de trois ans. Le profil du candidat recherché est celui de quelqu’un avec des connaissances suffisantes en physique-mathématique intéressé par les fondements conceptuels et mathématiques de la physique théorique. Le candidat choisi est supposé travailler sur un des sujets suivants :

• Philosophie de l’espace-temps et des théories de la gravitation. 
• Philosophie de la mécanique quantique à la lumière de la géométrie symplectique, de la quantification géométrique et de la théorie des systèmes hamiltoniens sous contraintes.
• Philosophie de la gravitation quantique.  

Profil recherché

Les candidats doivent être titulaires d’un Master 2 ou d'un diplôme équivalent en philosophie, physique ou mathématiques au 31 juillet 2013. 

Conditions d'emploi et de rémunération

• Environnement scientifique : Laboratoire SPHERE (UMR 7219), Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) – Université Paris Diderot, Paris, France.
• Date de début de la bourse : Octobre – Novembre 2013.  
• Salaire mensuel net approximatif : 1400 Euros. 

Candidature

• une lettre de motivation expliquant les intérêts du candidat et ses compétences pour contribuer à un projet interdisciplinaire à l’intersection entre la philosophie, la physique et les mathématiques, 
• un CV incluant une liste des publications,
• une copie du diplôme universitaire le plus récent,
• des écrits, publiés ou non, illustrant la capacité du candidat à faire de la recherche (articles, mémoire, etc.),
• le nom et l’adresse électronique de deux personnalités scientifiques susceptible d’être contactée pour une recommandation.

• Philosophy of spacetime and gravitational theories. 
• Philosophy of quantum mechanics in the light of symplectic geometry, geometric quantization and the theory of constrained Hamiltonian systems.
• Philosophy of quantum gravity.

Eligibility requirements

Eligible candidates must hold a university degree equivalent to a Master's degree in philosophy, physics or mathematics by July 31st, 2013.
