Summary

The IV International Congress Sport, Doping and Society is organized by the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and the Spanish Agency for Health Protection in Sport (AEPSAD). Under the theme “Looking to the future”, it will be presented the results of scientific researches and new methodologies in the field of doping in sport.From the specific perspective of Social and Human Sciences, we believe that this initiative will contribute to identify the factors that influence the use of doping substances and methods. From this knowledge we hope to foster future prevention and doping control and to promote ethical behavior in sport.

Presentation

The IV International Congress Sport, Doping and Society is organized by the Technical University of Madrid (UPM) and the Spanish Agency for Health Protection in Sport (AEPSAD). Under the theme “Looking to the future”, it will be presented the results of scientific researches and new methodologies in the field of doping in sport.From the specific perspective of Social and Human Sciences, we believe that this initiative will contribute to identify the factors that influence the use of doping substances and methods. From this knowledge we hope to foster future prevention and doping control and to promote ethical behavior in sport.

In addition, this Congress will devote a special session aimed for young students, both high school and university levels, which will address issues related to prevention.Is due to attend a wide representation of authorities related to sport, researchers, educators and other professionals working in different areas of fight against doping.

The Congress will take place from 26 February to 1 March 2014 and will be held at the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport - INEF (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain).

The Congress accepts texts written in any of the three official languages: English, Spanish and French. No simultaneous translation is provided except for the plenary sessions.

This Congress is conceived with a scientific-educational purpose to meet people interested in a current and broad topic as doping in sports, focusing on the field of Social and Human Sciences. Therefore, the structure is established as follows:

Submission guidelines

Abstracts must be submitted using exclusively the on-line system of this web page (www.deportedopajesociedad.com). Abstracts submitted by e-mail or any other means  will not be accepted.

Posters will not be accepted.

The presenting author is required to ensure that all co-authors are aware of the content of the abstract before submission to the Secretariat.

Abstracts must be received by the announced deadline. Abstracts received after the deadline will not be considered.

After your abstract is submitted further changes will not be accepted.

  • Abstract characteristics

Abstracts must be original and written in one of the official languages of the Congress (Spanish, French or English).

Abstract title: limited to 20 words.

Abstract text:

    • Text should not exceed 300 words, including acknowledgements.
    • 3-5 keywords.
    • References, figures, graphs, images, tables and diagrams will not be included.

Abstracts should clearly state:

    • Background and objectives.
    • Methods.
    • Results.
    • Conclusions.

Author and co-authors' details:

    • Full first and family name(s).

General Information:

    • Thematic area: history, law, sociology, psychology, media studies, philosophy, education, economics or other area in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences (choose one).
    • Chosen language for presentation.

Additional informations

  • Oral presentations

Oral presentations will have a length of 20 minutes and will be placed in group of three in thematic areas, leaving at the end 30 minutes for questions and discussion. Is due to offer 75 lectures in three simultaneous spaces of the venue. This number could be increased by using other rooms of the Faculty.
To introduce the different areas of the Congress it is scheduled to include six plenary sessions lectured by international standing key speakers.
 
Abstract and proceedings publication
The scientific journal Materiales para la Historia del Deporte (ISSN : 1887-9586, indexed in IN-RECS, DICE, RESH, INRECH, MIAR, Latindex, Dialnet y ULRICHWEB) will publish, in a special issue, all abstracts accepted by the Scientific Committee. Afterwards the proceedings will be published in a book as a book chapter (with ISBN).
  • 'Young Researchers' Award

Congress establishes an award for 'Young Researchers' under 35 years (dated March 1st, 2014).
 
To qualify for the award, you have to send the abstract and full text in English before November 30th, 2013.
 
The Scientific Committee will decide the winner of the award, which will be presented during the gala dinner of the Congress.
  • Full texts publication

After the Congress, authors will send the full texts to the Technical Secretariat before March 20th 2014. The texts will have a maximum length of 10,000 words (including notes and references) and may be written in Spanish, French or English.
 
The Scientific Committee may determine the texts that form part of the publication as a book chapter (NOT CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS) with ISBN.
