The conference will host keynote lectures, plenary sessions and different workshops concerning the anthropology of Morocco.

Argument
Potential themes for papers could include, but are not limited to the following axes: ethnicity, identity and alterity; gender; body; health; religion; ritual and social practices; food and eating; socio-political movements; space, place; material culture...
The keynote speaker will be Professor Hassan Rachik (Université Hassan II, Casablanca)
Confirmed speakers are: Yolanda Aixelà Cabré (Institució Milà i Fontanals, CSIC), Pierre Bonte (Laboratoire d´Anthropologie Sociale, EHESS), Anne-Marie Brisebarre (Laboratoire d´Anthropologie Sociale, EHESS), Katherine E. Hoffman (Northwestern University), Josep Lluís Mateo Dieste (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona) and Emilio Spadola (Colgate University)
Over the last hundred years and more, many anthropologists have conducted extensive ethnographic fieldwork in Morocco. This conference aims at providing a broad and critical overview of the anthropological scholarship on Moroccan society.
The aims of the conference are:
- To explore contemporary cultural dynamics, to communicate the results of fieldwork done in Morocco, and to share ethnographical, ethnological and anthropological research
- To examine theoretical and methodological perspectives employed by different researchers
- To facilitate dialogue between scholars of different backfgrounds working on Morocco and disseminate the latest thinking and research
- To bring together researchers working in the anthropology of morocco, and to provide an international forum for the interaction of researchers
Submission guidelines
The organisers welcome 250-500-word (max.) abstracts for paper proposals.
Call for papers/photographs deadline: September 25, 2013.
Early submission is advised.
