Ce colloque interdisciplinaire se focalise sur l’analyse de l’articulation entre sciences, politique de la science et vulgarisation, abordée par le biais des artefacts, dispositifs, architectures… considérés comme la matérialisation, à un moment donné, d’une conception des sciences et de leurs rôles social, culturel, économique et politique. Il aborde ces questions dans une perspective transnationale, qui permet de comparer les différentes traditions nationales au moment où certaines évolutions et politiques publiques se décident désormais à un niveau européen ou international. Il a aussi pour volonté d’inscrire les questionnements très contemporains liés aux mutations profondes qui affectent actuellement les institutions de recherche, d’enseignement supérieur et de médiation des sciences dans une perspective historique longue (XIX^e et XX^e siècles).

This interdisciplinary conference focusses on the articulation between science, science policy and science popularization. We study the objects, concrete displays, architectures for showing science, and consider these as materializations, at particular points in time, of specific conceptions of science and its social, cultural, economic or political place in society. Because a number of evolutions or public decisions now take place at European or international levels, it isimportant to consider these questions in a transnational perspective. By adopting a deliberately wide chronological focus, from the1800s to now, the conference seeks to contribute to contemporary debates by helping put into historical perspective the rapid transformation that institutions devoted to research, higher education  and science communication are all currently undergoing.
