Thematic Issue – Estrategias Review

*  *  *

Published on mercredi, décembre 09, 2015

Summary

In about fifteen years, knowledge management has progressively become an integral part of research which leads today to the existence of about twenty internationally referenced journals. Knowledge is now considered as a new source of wealth and a "new" asset within firms and organizations. Its management gives rise to numerous problems because of its features: knowledge is difficult to control (involuntary spreading, or on the contrary access and sharing failure). It is an unlimited resource (it cannot be destroyed after use). It accrues in the organization. Hence, what are today this asset management issues, how to manage and protect knowledge at best, how to evaluate this intangible asset, how to value knowledge within organizations?

Presentation

As a result of the alliance between Estrategias and AGECSO (Association pour la gestion des connaissances dans les sociétés et les organisations) to promote the publication of academic research in the field of Knowledge Management, both enterprises have agreed to publish some contributions submitted to the 9th GECSO conference 2016 in a thematic issue of Estrategias. In order to provide this alliance a global and integrating feature which strengthen the sought academic product, it has been agreed that besides the contributions of the conference it will be taken into account direct postulations of articles from researchers all over the world which offers new insights into the topic.

Argument

In about fifteen years, knowledge management has progressively become an integral part of research which leads today to the existence of about twenty internationally referenced journals.

Knowledge is now considered as a new source of wealth and a « new » asset within firms and organizations. Who does it belong to? If the issue linked to intellectual property within industrial firms has been stressed, we are still awaiting a real encounter between knowledge dynamics and development of commons. Knowledge-based innovation has been largely covered by battles around industrial property, but convincing experiences around no-charge free softwares, open platforms and creative commons licenses are in favor of an increased interest for commons.

In a more managerial perspective, knowledge management (KM) is a rapidly expanding issue in the business world, as their objectives aim at creation, codification, capitalization, knowledge transfer within organizations along with strategy in the framework of an intensive innovation scheme, and with the aim of improving the organizational performance. Once again, many challenges are still to be faced: what linkage between business strategy and knowledge management.
