La conférence « Arthur entre Nord et Sud », organisée par la Branche Nordique de la Société Internationale Arthurienne et l’EA REIGENN se tiendra à l’université Paris-Sorbonne entre le 6 et le 8 décembre 2016. Elle sera la seconde conférence organisée par la Branche Nordique de la Société Arthurienne Internationale et sera consacrée aux recherches récentes sur la matière arthurienne dans les langues du Nord (vieux norrois, vieux suédois, vieux danois) ainsi qu’aux contacts littéraires entre le Nord médiéval et l’Europe continentale.

The "Arthur between North and South" conference will be held at the Paris-Sorbonne University on 6-8 December 2016. As the second conference organised by the Nordic Branch of the International Arthurian Society, it will focus on recent research on the translations of the Arthurian material into Nordic languages (Old Norse, Old Swedish, Old Danish) during the Middle Ages, as well as on literary contact between the medieval North and Continental Europe.

La conférence « Arthur entre Nord et Sud », organisée par la Branche Nordique de la Société Internationale Arthurienne et l’EA REIGENN se tiendra à l’université Paris-Sorbonne entre le 6 et le 8 décembre 2016. Elle sera la seconde conférence organisée par la Branche Nordique de la Société Arthurienne Internationale et sera consacrée aux recherches récentes sur la matière arthurienne dans les langues du Nord (vieux norrois, vieux suédois, vieux danois) ainsi qu’aux contacts littéraires entre le Nord médiéval et l’Europe continentale.

La matière Arthurienne, qui connaît un large écho dans l’Europe médiévale, a aussi touché la Scandinavie à travers traductions et adaptations de romans de langue française, allemande ou d’autres langues vernaculaires médiévales, de même que le latin. Les présentations qui aborderont la matière Arthurienne du Nord sous un angle comparatiste, de même que celles qui concernent les pratiques de traduction et les voies des transferts culturels entre l’Europe continentale et le Nord seront donc particulièrement appréciées.

Nous accueillerons aussi volontiers toutes contributions centrées sur les œuvres, la codicologie et particulièrement la transmission matérielle des manuscrits de littérature arthurienne vers le Nord, le contexte socio-culturel de production des œuvres, les questions de genre et de représentations, d’identité…

Modalités pratiques d'envoi des propositions

Les communications de 20 minutes se feront en anglais, français ou allemand. Les propositions de communications ne devront pas dépasser 500 mots et sont à envoyer (de même que toutes questions au sujet du colloque)

Argument

The ‘Arthur between North and South’ conference will be held at the Paris-Sorbonne University on 6-8 December 2016. As the second conference organised by the Nordic Branch of the International Arthurian Society, it will focus on recent research on the translations of the Arthurian material into Nordic languages (Old Norse, Old Swedish, Old Danish) during the Middle Ages, as well as on literary contact between the medieval North and Continental Europe.

The Arthurian tradition has enjoyed a large diffusion in Medieval Europe, including in Scandinavia where works originally written in French, German or other vernacular languages were translated and new works inspired by those were composed during the Middle Ages. Therefore, we gladly welcome papers with a comparative angle relevant to Scandinavia, as well as those concerning translations practice and cultural transfers between medieval North and Continental Europe.

We also welcome papers centred on manuscript tradition and material transmission towards the North, cultural and historical context of production, gender- and identity related issues among other themes.

Submission guidelines

Presentations shall be given in English, French or German and be 20 minutes long. Please send your abstracts (500 words or less) to ArthurNordSud@gmail.com 

the 20^th of June 2016 at the latest.
