Tal posicionamento não foi circunstancial, pois Cabral assumiu a condição de “combatente anónimo” pela humanidade em inúmeras outras ocasiões, afirmando bater-se pela dignidade, pelo progresso e pela felicidade humana. A conferência tem como objetivo reunir académicos que estudam a obra de Cabral, instituições que se dedicam à preservação da sua memória e individualidades que com ele privaram.

In 1971, Amílcar Cabral presented himself in the United Nations (UN) as an “anonymous fighter” engaged in the struggle for the fundamental freedoms of the populations of Guinea and Cape Verde, as well as of all mankind. Such affirmation was not casual, since Cabral adopted the status of “anonymous fighter” in other circumstances, arguing that he was struggling for the human dignity, progress and happiness. The main goal of the conference is to bring together academics studying Cabral trajectory, institutions involved in preserving his memory and personalities which became acquainted with him.

Num discurso pronunciado na Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU) em 1971, Amílcar Cabral apresentou-se como um “combatente anónimo” que lutava pelos direitos fundamentais das populações da Guiné e de Cabo Verde, assim como de toda a humanidade. Tal posicionamento não foi circunstancial, pois Cabral assumiu a condição de “combatente anónimo” pela humanidade em inúmeras outras ocasiões, afirmando bater-se pela dignidade, pelo progresso e pela felicidade humana.

Em resultado da projeção internacional que alcançou, Amílcar Cabral teve relevância não somente para as histórias nacionais da Guiné-Bissau e de Cabo Verde. A sua figura ultrapassou a dimensão africana, como demonstrado pela sessão de homenagem realizada pela ONU aquando do seu assassinato, em que o seu carisma foi destacado por inúmeros intervenientes. Neste sentido, torna-se pertinente refletir no modo como o seu percurso se desenvolveu através da interação entre a agenda política interna (de índole anticolonial e emancipatório) e a constituição de redes de apoios e de contatos com atores internacionais, mobilizados a partir dos mais diversos quadrantes geográficos, políticos e ideológicos. Aliás, a metabiografia de Cabral não pode nunca perder de vista a cumplicidade desta relação, sob pena de não se apreender com a devida justeza a heterogeneidade dos seus modos de criar agenciamentos políticos. Tratar-se, pois, de pensar a sua figura como multifacetada, tendo dinamizado uma multiplicidade prolífica de tópicos políticos, teóricos (por vezes polémicos), culturais, académicos e sociais.

A popularização da expressão Cabral ka Morrê (Cabral não Morreu) evidencia a persistência do seu legado, constatando-se atualmente um aumento dos estudos que lhe são dedicados em diversas disciplinas e em diferentes realidades geográficas. De forma a promover o diálogo entre os estudos mais recentes que exploram as suas inúmeras facetas, pretende-se organizar uma conferência internacional, que terá lugar em Lisboa, no Instituto de História Contemporânea da Universidade Nova de Lisboa, entre 1-2 de Março de 2018.

A conferência tem como objetivo reunir académicos que estudam a obra de Cabral, instituições que se dedicam à preservação da sua memória e individualidades que com ele privaram.

Eixos temáticos

Aceitam-se propostas para apresentações de 20 minutos sobre estes e/ou outros temas:

•  Amílcar Cabral enquanto objeto de estudos académicos; 
•  A sua produção teórica; 
•  A interação entre a sua produção teórica e a de outros autores; 
•  A sua produção literária; 
•  O seu envolvimento na luta contra o colonialismo português; 
•  O âmbito internacional da sua atuação política;
•  A mitificação da sua figura enquanto herói nacional;
•  Os testemunhos e narrativas que lhe são dedicados;
•  Os usos atribuídos à sua imagem e memória.

Argument

In 1971, Amílcar Cabral presented himself in the United Nations (UN) as an “anonymous fighter” engaged in the struggle for the fundamental freedoms of the populations of Guinea and Cape Verde, as well as of all mankind. Such affirmation was not casual, since Cabral adopted the status of “anonymous fighter” in other circumstances, arguing that he was struggling for the human dignity, progress and happiness.

As an outcome of the international status he achieved, Amílcar Cabral’s influence exceeded the national histories of Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde. His personality surpassed the African dimension, as evinced in the tribute organized by the UN after his assassination, when his charisma was emphasized by the participants. In this sense, it is essential to consider how his trajectory evolved through the interaction between the internal political agenda (anticolonial and emancipatory) and the establishment of networks of support and contact with international actors, from different geographical, political and ideological backgrounds. As a matter of fact, Cabral metabiography cannot neglect the complicity of such relation, otherwise we risk not understanding properly the heterogeneity of his way of creating political intermediations. His figure should be understood as presenting many features, having prompted a number of political, theoretical, cultural, academic and social subjects, which sometimes were controversial.

The popularity achieved by the expression Cabral ka Morrê (Cabral did not perish) evinces the persistence of his legacy. Nowadays we can witness an increase in the studies related to him in different academic disciplines and countries. In order to promote the dialogue amongst the most recent studies exploring his many features, we intend to organize an international conference, to be held in Lisbon, at the Institute of Contemporary History of the Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, on 1 and 2 March, 2018.

The main goal of the conference is to bring together academics studying Cabral trajectory, institutions involved in preserving his memory and personalities which became acquainted with him.

• The interaction of his theoretical viewpoints and the work of other authors;

• His involvement in the struggle against Portuguese colonialism;
