  International Workshop, Paris-IEDES, 7-8 december 09

  Organized by UMR 201, RUME India, Mexico, Madagascar, CIESAS (Mexico) (www.rume-rural-microfinance.org). The main purpose of this interdisciplinary workshop will be a theoretical and empirical examination of over-indebtedness from the perspective of southern countries, with the following underlying hypothesis: to define and analyze the process of indebtedness requires first an understanding of the complexity and diversity of debt relationships. The following questions might be addressed: 1) The social meaning of debt, creditworthiness and over-indebtedness. 2) Financial ‘markets’ and financial providers. 3) Financial culture. 4) Impoverishment and accumulation. 5) Over-indebtedness.

  Living Landscape : The European Landscape Convention in Research Perspective

  In view of the 10th anniversary of the European Landscape Convention, that will be celebrated in Florence (Italy) on 20 October 2010, UNISCAPE and LANDSCAPE EUROPE are organising a scientific conference to discuss in depth the merits of landscape science at the forefront of integrated research in a rapidly changing spatial environment. The conference will be held on 18-19 October 2010 in Florence. The aim is to initiate a well prepared debate in order to define clear recommendations and guidelines from the scientific community to be presented to the audience of the official meeting on 20 October 2010. The conference is supported by the authors of the text of the European Landscape Convention, and will be realised in close consultation with the Commission on Cultural Heritage and Landscape (CDPATEP) of the Council of Europe.

  Congo Basin Hunter-Gatherers

  The international conference is being held to share and evaluate recent research on Congo Basin hunter-gatherers. It has been almost ten years since international researchers have convened to discuss research and development issues facing Congo Basin hunter-gatherers. We are especially interested in field-based research reports from any discipline, but encourage participants to consider their data and conclusions within the scope of development, global change and the fate of Congo Basin peoples. Extensive cultural diversity exists and not all Congo Basis huntergatherers actively hunt and gather (e.g., they may have cash crops or live near cities). We are interested in understanding cultural diversity and processes of culture change, but the focus is on peoples and groups with a long history of living in and strong identity with the tropical forest. Papers on Congo Basin farmers and fishermen are encouraged if they include a history of or relationships between hunter-gatherers and farmers or fishermen. Papers that compare Congo Basin hunter-gatherer with farmers/fisherman or Congo Basin hunter-gatherers with hunter-gatherers in other parts of the world are also welcome.

  Being an Art Historian today

  En tant que science humaine, l’histoire de l’art ne peut rester figée dans un schéma de pensée, se devant de se renouveler en se confrontant aux propres évolutions de son sujet d’étude. Ainsi, alors que les révolutions artistiques de ces dernières décennies ont profondément transformé le champ de la création, il apparaît nécessaire de s’interroger sur la manière dont ces bouleversements ont modifié, ou non, les réflexions et les modes de recherches de l’historien de l’art, ainsi que les applications de son travail. Ce colloque s’articulera autour de trois problématiques principales qui interrogeront le réaménagement des cadres traditionnels dans lesquels l’histoire de l’art est née.

  Grand narratives and peripheral memories

  De plus en plus, la recherche historique et sociale s'intéresse à l'analyse de champs de mémoire qui existent à côté des grands récits nationaux voire européens. Des exemples de cette pratique sociale et familiale, qui est indépendante des « master narratives », notamment de la mémoire de la deuxième guerre mondiale et de la Shoa, sont la mémoire ouvrière, la mémoire paysanne et celle des migrations. Une question importante analysée lors de la conférence sera de savoir si le trauma, la perte, la rupture, le changement sont des éléments qui caractérisent également ces complexes périphériques de la mémoire. L'introduction dans le thème de la conférence sera faite par les contributions d'Anne Muxel (Centre de recherches politiques / CNRS, Paris) et de Christian Gudehus (Centre for Interdisciplinary Memory Research, Essen).

  Theatre after 1989 in East Central Europe

  L’année 1989 a marqué un tournant dans l’histoire de l’Europe médiane. Vingt années après la chute du mur de Berlin, le Centre d’études tchèques de l’ULB a choisi de s’interroger sur l’après 1989 et de focaliser sa réflexion sur les arts de la scène. La visée de ce colloque est de désarticuler l’année 1989 pour mettre en exergue les points de convergence et de divergence du théâtre centre européen contemporain toutes générations confondues, et de tenter de cerner les nouveaux traits par lesquels il se définit. Les intervenants sont tant des historiens et des théâtrologues que des artistes de la scène.

  Codicology and Palaeography in the Digital Age II

  It is only a year since the Institute of Documentology and Scholarly Editing (IDE) undertook an initiative entitled “Codicology and Palaeography in the Digital Age”. Yet its first results have already been written up and published: in July 2009, the anthology “Codicology and Palaeography in the Digital Age” was launched at an international symposium in Munich. Despite the fact that the anthology gives a broad insight into theory and practice, some relevant subjects and questions have not been covered. For this reason the IDE plans to publish a second volume of “Codicology and Palaeography in the Digital Age”.   Issue-Linkages and Regime-Complexes

  International politics have been handled by a growing number of international regimes, in extended issue areas such as international economy, security, migration, or the environment. While these regimes were initially meant to address specific issues, their scope have been extended, creating what has been described as “regime complex”, “regime interplay”, or “overlapping regimes”. As a consequence, human rights issues are discussed at the WTO, climate change at the IMF, and gender at the Security Council. The 2010 REPI Workshop will explore the causes and consequences of issue-linkages and regime-complexes. REPI Workshops have a unique format.
