  Archives, libraries and museums in the era of the participatory social Web

  Special issue of the Canadian Journal of Information and Library Science

  This special issue aims to investigate mutations or changes under way within the institutions and among the stakeholders of libraries, archives, museums and online media due to the spread of Web 2.0 digital practices. The guest editors of this special issue of the Canadian Journal of Information and Library Science invite researchers from different disciplines to submit original unpublished work in connection with the changes brought about by Web 2.0 in these sectors. Contributions may cover different aspects: epistemological, technological, sociological, economic and political impact of Web 2.0 in the context of libraries, archives, museums and new media.

  Montagnes et conflictualité : le conflit, facteur d’adaptations et d’innovations territoriales

  L’objet de ce numéro thématique de la revue Journal of Alpine Research | Revue de Géographie Alpine est d’aborder la montagne sous l’angle de la conflictualité, plus particulièrement dans la relation entre conflit et territoire. Le conflit est envisagé ici dans un sens large, d’opposition et de lutte, armée ou non, qui couvre les aspects politiques, mais aussi les aspects militaires, sociaux et culturels, recoupant les notions de résistances ou de réactions, dans leur capacité à générer de l’innovation. Le contexte montagnard invite à examiner les dimensions territoriales du conflit : que produit cette situation aux échelles locales ? Et en quoi fait-elle intervenir des spécificités morphologiques, des valeurs ou des identités montagnardes ?

  Translation in Exile

  This conference this aims at providing a new understanding of exile as a theoretical concept, analytical category, and lived experience in the study of the translation of (literary) texts. It will touch on questions of multilingualism and displacement, and on their methodological implications for translation studies, first and foremost with regard to translating literary texts as a political and cultural practice. The goal is thus to further our understanding of the authors’ experiences of exile, their function, opportunities and problems as (self-) translators. It aims at circumnavigating a broad spatial and temporal spectrum. The focus of the conference is neither limited to the analysis of translation in the context of European languages and cultures, nor to one specific historical period.

  The Many Faces of Slavery: non-traditional slave experiences in the Atlantic World

  By the 18^th century, racial slavery had matured into a fully-fledged, firmly established, profitable form of labour in the Atlantic World. In slave societies, the development of the plantation unit led both to the geographical concentration of the slave population and to a growing homogenization of the activities bondsmen performed. However, throughout the Atlantic World, the existence of phenomena such as urban slavery, slave self-hiring, quasi-free or nominal slaves, domestic slave concubines, slave vendors, slave sailors, slave preachers, slave overseers, and many other types of “societies with slaves,” broadens our traditional conception of slavery by complicating the slave experience. This conference does not aim to challenge the significance of the plantation system, but, by using it as a paradigm, seeks to assess the extent and nature of non-traditional forms of slavery in the context of the historical evolution of labour in the Atlantic World.

  Society for the Study of French History 29th Annual Conference

  This is a call for papers for the 29th Annual Conference of the UK and Ireland Society for the Study of French History. This conference will take place at the University of St Andrews, Scotland, UK, on 28th-30th June 2015, and will be hosted by the university’s Centre for French History and Culture. The theme of the plenary sessions will be “Turning Points in French History”. This theme has been chosen because of the number of significant anniversaries that fall in 2015 (1415 Azincourt, 1515 accession of François Ier, 1615 closing of Estates General until 1789, 1715 death of Louis XIV and accession of Louis XV, 1815 end of the Napoleonic era, 1940 fall of France).

  In recent years, ceremonies, rituals and routines have come to form a dynamic field of historical research. This one-day workshop looks at these phenomena in relation to the proceedings of local and regional administrations, law courts, political bodies, and corporations, rather than the court or high administration. The aim of the workshop is to discuss work in progress and to exchange ideas and views about the current state-of-the-art and methodological issues related to research on early modern ceremonies, rituals and routines in local intermediary organizations and in local political settings.

  Dans le cadre du projet interdisciplinaire « History and Dictionary of Sociability in Britain (1660-1832) », la journée d’étude du 14 novembre 2014, organisée par PLEIADE (université Paris 13) et HCTI (UBO Brest) vise à étudier la période de la Restauration à la Glorieuse Révolution (1660-1688) comme une période charnière dans l’histoire de la sociabilité britannique, portant en elle les germes d’une sociabilité nouvelle. Il s’agira d’identifier les facteurs politiques, sociaux, économiques et culturels propices à l’essor de la sociabilité britannique et d’interroger le caractère novateur des formes, des pratiques et des vecteurs de cette sociabilité.

  Recherches géoarchéaologiques en Mer Noire et en Mer d’Azov

  Depuis les premières études engagées en 1783 par Gablitz sur la chôra de Chersonèse, la Mer Noire constitue une zone de référence dans les recherches conduites sur l’aménagement des espaces ruraux et littoraux au sein du monde colonial grec. Le relevé systématique des nombreux fossés et murets qui parcourent le littoral occidental de la Crimée, initié dans le cadre du projet grec de Catherine II, a précédé de quelques décennies l’ouverture des premières fouilles en 1832 sur les espaces urbains. Une nouvelle étape, décisive, a été franchie dans les années 1960 par la mise en application d’une archéologie du sol, laquelle a offert un éclairage inédit sur l’organisation interne de plusieurs kleroi proches de Chersonèse, Kerkinitis et Kalos Limen. Au même moment débutaient dans l’Ouest de la mer Noire les premières recherches sur le territoire d’Istros, bientôt enrichies par l’apport de nombreuses études géomorphologiques sur les métamorphoses du delta voisin du Danube. Les bases fertiles d’une enquête géoarchéologique étaient jetées, laquelle n’a cessé depuis de s’enrichir grâce aux travaux menés ces dernières années tout autour de la zone pontique.

  This book will follow an international conference taking place in Rennes (France), November 27-28, 2014, which will gather specialists on issues related to indigenous peoples and regional integration organizations. The conference and the book are directed by Nathalie Hervé-Fournereau (DR CNRS University of Rennes) and Sophie Thériault (Associate Professor, University of Ottawa with the support of the IUCN Academy of Environmental Law and the french society for environmental law. The conference and the book are part of a larger research and networking project conducted by the Interdisciplinary thematic Network BIODISCEE of the CNRS INEE, with the support of the Centre d’Excellence Jean Monnet of Rennes and the Franco-Canadian research program on Regional Integration Organizations in the world.

  Impacts du changement climatique sur les dynamiques des milieux montagnards

  Cet appel à contribution concerne principalement les systèmes hydro-morpho-physiques de montagne, leur évolution sous l’influence du changement climatique et leurs impacts indirectement induits sur les systèmes naturels (Ives et Messerli, 1989 ; Beniston, 2005). Cet appel inclut également les menaces potentielles de cette évolution sur les systèmes économiques (par exemple l’économie touristique), et indirectement les modes de vie des communautés de montagne (Price, 1999 ; Beniston et al., 2002 ; Viviroli et al., 2007), en particulier les plus vulnérables vivant dans les zones montagneuses marginalisés (physiquement et économiquement). C’est pourquoi cet appel s’adresse à la fois aux géographes physiciens / climatologues s’intéressant aux questions sociétales, et aux géographes humains qui se préoccupent ou enquêtent sur les questions d’évolution environnementale.
