  Dans le cadre des « Nouveaux espaces littéraires » et de la volonté de rapprochement disciplinaire du CENEL autour de problématique transversales telles que le récit, la journée d’études « Récits de société : quelles approches critiques ? » propose de faire se rencontrer les chercheurs en narratologie, en histoire et en sciences sociales et de la communication autour de la notion novatrice de « récit de société ». Cette journée d’études est donc pluridisciplinaire tout en abordant un phénomène contemporain de la narrativité élargie : les récits et leur construction dans l’espace social.

  International study days

  Ces deux journées d’études internationales seront consacrées au rôle et au travail du traducteur de théâtre tant dans sa dimension historique que contemporaine. Il s’agira d’interroger l’instabilité et la versatilité du traducteur en privilégiant les études de cas, le travail de terrain et la parole des praticiens. Souvent perçu comme un homme de l’ombre dont le travail reste encore sous estimé par rapport au duo auteur/metteur en scène, le rôle du traducteur n’en reste pas moins fondamental. Ces journées permettront d’éclairer ses relations avec ce duo structurant, mais également son positionnement par rapport au dramaturge et aborder les cas particuliers d’invisibilité du traducteur.

  Part of the Research Program on: Recognition and the Politics of Otherness

  Inter-Cultural Dialogues, 3rd International Symposium

  This symposium is organized by and is part of the activities of the Research Project on Inter-Cultural Dialogues. Among other projects, it is hosted and developed within the Research Program on Recognition and the Politics of Otherness. It has become a common place to speak about globalization as a process that has made the world smaller and more interconnected. But beneath such claims multiple processes remain analytically undefined and critically unexplored. We are interested in assessing how ideas of culture and cultural interactions shape identity, membership, place, rootedness and belonging while simultaneously encouraging misunderstanding, tension and conflict, estrangement, isolation and alienation. In particular, the project will investigate world transformations that have structured cultural flows, given rise to new forms of hybridity, increased nomadic lives and encouraged the proliferation of transitory and transversal interconnections.

  Risk, Dignity and Fragility: Searching for a New Ethics

  Research Program on Lost Virtues, Found Vices, 1st International Symposium

  This trans-disciplinary research project is interested in exploring the nature and structure of an ethics for the 21^st century. Ethics has most often been founded on a concept of the self as an agent that is secure, self-confident, and in control and on a view of the world as stable, unchanging and thus as knowable and predictable. Yet contemporary culture shows us a very different view of ourselves and of our environment. Caught up in a world in constant change where borders and boundaries, conditions and contexts are constantly changing and uncertainty is the norm, we find ourselves insecure, vulnerable as forces beyond our control direct and frame the moral decisions that we face. How must ethics be reconceived in light of our shifting ideals of the self and the world? Can there be an ethics under the conditions of uncertainty, flux, and instability?

  Love, Lust and Longing: Rethinking Intimacy

  Research Program on Recasting Bonds, 4th International Symposium

  While discussion of sex become ever more common, opportunities to explore the nature of love are still rare. When the topic is raised, most often the focus is on dramatic experiences or hard cases. The “epic” and the “mundane” are probably more intertwined in our experiences of love than cultural speech and literature admit. Yet, an imbalance continues to exist: we reflect little on the smallness of events that sustain love bonds. What goes unexamined as such are the ways in which love is spoken of and enacted in everyday life. This trans-disciplinary research project is interested in exploring the lived experience of love considering the ways in which it is described and how it is practiced, identifying how love differs from and overlaps with concern, care, friendship and lust and raising questions about the ontology, expression and politics of love.

  Postmodern Madness and the Reconstruction of Subjectivities

  This trans-disciplinary research project is interested in exploring the links between madness, subjectivity, and postmodern narratives. Or, from a different angle, we seek to investigate the ways postmodern discourses encompass ideals of madness in relation to the construction of subjectivity. Schizophrenia, paranoia, perversion, deviation are often called upon and incorporated in the construction of the postmodern subject. How are these terms used to construct subjectivities in cultures in which anxiety, unreason, and disorder are the norm? How is meaning refashioned to pass from 'clinical abnormality' to forms of social 'normality'? How is this concept employed in constructing the postmodern subject in literature, movies, music, photography, painting, and other forms of art?

  Where is oblivion hidden in the manufacture of heritage?

  Ces journées entendent étudier des objets, des monuments ou des traditions du patrimoine dont une partie de l’histoire a été passée sous silence, volontairement ou involontairement, voire cachée. Il s’agit également d’étudier les parcours de différents acteurs qui ont contribué ensuite à faire (ré)apparaître ces objets oubliés ou en devenir. La question de l'oubli s'inscrit entre destruction et sauvegarde d’un patrimoine. Elle met en évidence un processus de patrimonialisation qui est le résultat de tensions liées tantôt à des conflits, et à des décisions politiques, tantôt à des mutations urbaines, voire à l'évolution du goût. Si les recherches sur le patrimoine se sont presque exclusivement consacrées à la mémoire et à ses différentes figures, une activité régulière d’écriture et de recherche s’est néanmoins toujours intéressée aux formes de l’oubli et de la négligence: ces journées sont l’occasion de la mettre en valeur.

  Sense and reference. A tribute to Georges Kleiber

  IVth Res per nomen Conference

  Res-per-nomen 4 will look into the many theories of sense and reference. While the philosophical tradition is very rich in such theories, in linguistics, however, reference was explicitly eschewed by the founding fathers of modern linguistics, Saussure and Bloomfield, not because they thought reference did not have its rightful place in the study of language, but because they found it more pressing to concentrate on language as a system of signs. In France, reference was reintroduced into linguistics by Georges Kleiber over the last three decades. Res per nomen 4 would like to take stock of his contribution to our understanding of language, particularly with regard to one of his key concepts: names and the naming process (dénomination in French).

  La revue Germanica (Lille-III) met en route un numéro sur « Le théâtre de langue allemande au XXI^e siècle : situation et perspectives ». Il s’agit de faire un bilan de ce que les théoriciens, tels Gerda Poschmann, Hans-Thies Lehmann, ont nommé le théâtre postdramatique : quelle a été l’étendue de son influence, dans les pratiques scéniques, dans le jeu des acteurs, mais aussi dans l’écriture des dramaturges ? Cette influence se fait à l’évidence inégalement sentir selon les pays ; il s’agira ici d’en faire le constat pour la sphère germanophone.

  Over the last few decades our increasingly complex and globalized world has witnessed a constant increase of disasters, cataclysms and natural or provoked catastrophes. What has man been doing and what can he do, when confronted with catastrophes for which he is responsible and with which he has to deal ? A vast issue for humanity is the need to decide how to act either individually or collectively in the face of disasters. Our focus will be on man’s actions and reactions when facing catastrophes. The questions of responsability and conscience are particularly relevant in an interconnected world which is characterized by an unprecedented acceleration in time and space. Crossing research in human and social sciences and in the exact sciences can shed light on the complexity of man’s behaviour and that of state policies.

  Cette deuxième journée du projet Saintuaire privilégiera l’étude des créations et reconfigurations propres aux textes vernaculaires des XIIIe-XV^e siècles. En effet, à partir du XIII^e et, plus encore, du XIV^e siècle, les champs du profane et du sacré sont redéfinis en profondeur par l’apparition de pratiques de dévotion laïques et individuelles, qui échappent pour partie à l’emprise du clergé. Cette modification rejaillit sur les traitements et les représentations littéraires des reliques, et méritent à ce titre un intérêt particulier.

  N’a t-on pas tout dit sur Homère et les épopées monumentales « qui ont éduqué la Grèce » et qui continuent à nous éduquer ? Malgré l’étude continue de ces poèmes fabuleux, les grandes questions demeurent ouvertes : datation, lieu de composition, auteur, diffusion, formation des épopées monumentales, modes de composition et de transmission… Les travaux menées au CHS par Douglas Frame, Leonard Muellner et Gregory Nagy adoptent une approche résolument interdisciplinaire, tout en partant de l’étude philologique minutieuse des textes, considérée comme le cadre indispensable et le fondement de toute recherche et interrogation sur l’épopée.

  ADAL study days

  Après une première journée d’étude consacrée aux discours politiques latino-américains, puis une deuxième consacrée aux représentations et imaginaires qui y circulent (Donot et Pordeus, 2012), le groupe ADAL entend s’interroger, pour ses prochaines journées d’étude, sur la question des identités sociopolitiques et des conflits qui leur sont liés. Ces journée visent à regrouper des chercheuses et chercheurs provenant de diverses disciplines : sciences du langage, sciences de l’information et de la communication, sciences politiques, psychologie, cultural studies, etc. Elles s’organiseront autour de trois sessions thématiques : identités nationales, identités sociopolitiques et ethniques, et identités de genre.
