Urgency in languages: interactions, mediations and language interventions in migration
Les chercheur·e·s du programme Liminal étudient les interactions et les médiations langagières dans les temporalités de l’urgence, dans les centres et campements d’Île-de-France, de Calais et de la frontière franco-britannique, à Briançon et à la frontière franco-italienne. Ces lieux sont autant d’espaces où la communication et la diffusion d’informations est à la fois vitale et entravée. Aux contraintes physiques et psychiques qui s’exercent sur les sujets exilés s’ajoutent fréquemment des violences dans les langues et dans la traduction, que celle-ci soit insuffisante, inadaptée ou autour d’intraduisibles. Les langues dans l’urgence sont aussi, en conséquence, une urgence des langues. De fait, à travers les langues, ce qui se dessine est la place faite au sujet exilé, à la fois comme individu et comme élément dans un dispositif d’accueil lui-même en crise. C’est précisément sur ces enjeux que ce colloque entend revenir dans une perspective résolument multidisciplinaire réunissant dans chaque panel chercheurs et acteurs, réflexions et pratiques.

“The Faces of Garbo”: the construction, circulation and appropriations of a global star image
Beyond the fascination that “Garbo’s face” inspired, which Roland Barthes compared to a “Platonic idea” in a famous passage from Mythologies (1957), this symposium wishes to study the different faces of Garbo, embedding her screen performances as well as the extra-filmic material which helped build her star persona within a range of social and cultural contexts. Contributions will address both the construction of her image (comparing, for instance, the promotional discourse surrounding her in different countries) and its reception, be it by critics or “ordinary” filmgoers.

Over the past decades, there has been a growing interest among scholars in analysing how the Islamic heritage in Europe has been perceived, described, preserved, erased, negotiated or transformed in different areas of Europe, from medieval to modern times. However, those debates seldom crossed the borders of regional approaches. The aim of this training school is to discuss those issues from different and complementary perspectives, including art history, but also philosophy, history of science or anthropology, and to question the traditional regional narrative through a comparative examination of Islamic monuments in a wider Mediterranean perspective.

Iberian capitals from the 19th-21st centuries: relationship building
Il s’agira, dans ce colloque, de décentrer le regard ibérique. Au lieu de le tourner vers le nord, et par conséquent vers un « haut » et un centre imaginaires qui relégueraient la péninsule ibérique à la périphérie et à une position subalterne, nous proposons de le tourner vers le voisin immédiat, pour questionner ce face à face et la relation d’égal à égal que d’aucuns souhaiteraient voir établie entre ces espaces « frères » à la fois étrangers et intimes. Du XIXe siècle jusqu’à aujourd’hui, les capitales des deux États ainsi que leurs capitales régionales ont su tisser des liens culturels, politiques et militants forts qu’il conviendra d’interroger.

We are not only interested in the manifestations and history of these scenes, but also in how fandom themselves participate in the creation and distribution of historical discourse about the objects of their affection. Thus, we invite members of collecting and creating communities to participate with scholars in two days of conversation and events.

Il fait aussi référence à deux situations. Premièrement, celle de la « double exposition » d’une même œuvre, qui peut être exposée selon deux statuts différents, au fil de ses itérations successives. Deuxièmement, celle de la seconde présentation d’une exposition, dans un nouvel espace ou dans une temporalité différente.

Profils, parcours et représentations
Cette journée d’études trans-périodique vise à réinterroger la figure du traître en politique dans le temps long, de l’Antiquité à nos jours. Quelle place le traître a-t-il en politique ? Comment ceux qui nous dirigent ont-ils recours à la trahison ? Sont-ils tous susceptibles de devenir traîtres ou d’en être victimes ? Trahir est-il forcément un choix délibéré ou peut-il être un acte par dépit pour parvenir à ses fins ? Comment un individu devient-il un traître aux yeux de ses semblables ? Ces interrogations intemporelles, de l’Athènes antique aux politiques actuels, sont d’autant plus légitimes qu’elles semblent ressurgir au cœur d’une actualité brulante : outre le phénomène des gilets jaunes et les scandales politiques inondant la presse française ces dernières années, la montée des populismes en Europe témoigne d’une défiance générale envers une élite politique discréditée et accusée de trahir les intérêts des peuples.

From the individual to the collective
The objective of this Seminar is to stress the importance of a collaborative and participative way to understand through our senses. We want to explore connections between thinking and action in everyday city experiences, developing “in situ” actions. We consider that the knowledge of the space need space experiences. We aim to develop a collective, community exploration of the vital flow of the Lavapiés area in Madrid altering the classical relationship between artist, landscape and inhabitants. This exploration will allow the construction of an intangible map of audiovisual fragments, photo, phonographs, video art, performative actions. The direct experimentation of space helps us understand it, as well as "to perform it"; it helps us understand the aesthetic and emotional relationships we have with it. In order to get our objectives, urban artists, soundscape experts, theater groups, architects, philosopher, civil and social associations, citizens…will be invited.

La localisation de Nantes en limite du royaume franc, en bord de Loire et ouverte sur l’océan, en fait le lieu idéal pour s’interroger sur la circulation des hommes, des biens et des idées dans des limites qui pourront éventuellement déborder du monde mérovingien. Les moyens de communication, les échanges, le commerce, les influences ou encore les transferts technologiques et culturels feront ainsi l’objet d’une approche multiscalaire permettant d’appréhender la question à l’échelle locale ou régionale (au sein des campagnes, dans l’espace urbain, relations villes/campagne, contextes littoraux ou intérieurs…) mais aussi sur de plus longues distances et par-delà les mers.

Relief, revue électronique de littérature française, vous invite à proposer des articles pour un numéro spécial sur la littérature marocaine contemporaine, qui paraîtra en juin / juillet 2020. Le numéro se concentrera sur la littérature « déconcertante » qui, loin de répondre aux attentes du lecteur, déplace celles-ci et les remet en question. Il pourra contenir aussi des textes littéraires qui adressent des thèmes controversés, tels que la sexualité, la religion, etc.

The utopia of globalised culture and the reality of local communication practices
Communication and digital technology in Francophone sub-Saharan Africa
The imaginary world surrounding digital communication seems to impose a vision that crushes cultural diversity. The Symposium aims to jointly explore the heterogeneity of uses, productions and issues raised by the meeting of globalised technology that is often Western-centred, with various cultures. The first edition will focus on Francophone sub-Saharan Africa, a multicultural territory where contemporary geopolitical contexts pose particularly vital issues for communications research. These issues are of interest mainly to the information and communication sciences community, but the contributions of researchers from various cultural and disciplinary horizons will make it possible to tackle this very broad problem of communication, especially digital, in sensitive areas, according to different complementary approaches.

European ways of inciting and containing armed conflict, 1648-2020
The history of Europe is as much about violence and divisions – including religious wars, national clashes and ideological conflicts – as it is about shared cultural, social and economic accomplishments. If war has been such a constant presence in the history unfolding on the continent, the incessant efforts to limit its destructiveness are also an undeniable fact. It was such efforts that eventually led to the birth of Jus ad bellum and, ultimately, laid down the foundations of modern international law. From such a viewpoint, one might even find another definition of what European history might be. Some scholars have suggested that if war has structured a common European space, the containment of violence and the art of peacemaking have constituted ‘Europe’ in thought and practice.
