  Eastern Bloc Universities as a Meeting Place for International Youth during the Cold War

  This study day on international mobility is part of the transnational turn in research on the Cold War, which in recent years has highlighted a certain permeability of the Iron Curtain. It will focus on the transnational movement of students. It will focus in particular on the universities of Eastern Europe as a place of sociability and cultural mixing, and as a meeting place for young people. It will look at the issues at stake and the ways in which these encounters take place, in order to understand their impact on the personal trajectories of these young people at a time when their identity and professional pathways are being forged.

  Ce colloque international est organisé sur une base pluridisciplinaire (histoire, sciences politiques, sociologie, anthropologie, littérature, géographie, etc.), autour de 4 grands axes de discussion et de réflexion. Interviendront dans  ce colloque 35 chercheurs et doctorants du Maghreb (Algérie, Maroc, Tunisie), d’Afrique subsaharienne (Bénin, Cameroun, Congo, Ethiopie, Sénégal), d’Europe (France, Grèce, Roumanie), et de Russies ainsi que des témoins, anciens étudiants résidant au Maroc, ayant fait leurs études en URSS ou en Russie, à Cuba, ou dans un pays d’Europe de l’Est.

  Jacques Fauve appartient à cette génération de normaliens qui, au lendemain de la période de repliement sur elle-même de la France occupée de leur adolescence, a choisi de s’ouvrir au monde le plus largement possible, en se mettant au service de la politique culturelle française par la pratique constante du dialogue. Cette table ronde a donc l’ambition d’étudier un aspect de ce que put être la vie professionnelle d’un intellectuel français dans la seconde moitié du XXe siècle.

  Ignác Goldziher (1850-1921). Un classique des études orientales ou un autre orientalisme

  Tantôt considéré comme le fondateur de la « science de l’Islam » (Becker), le plus grand orientaliste de son époque (Irvine), appelé à la rescousse lorsqu’il s’agit de comprendre l’influence que les conceptions personnelles ou les émotions exercent sur l’activité scientifique (Waardenburg), Ignác Goldziher est devenu un objet central de toutes les histoires de l’orientalisme. Une place de choix lui revient également dans la redécouverte des orientalismes d’Europe centrale et orientale. Moins connu en France aujourd’hui, il y fut pourtant traduit et très apprécié à l’époque. Ce colloque entend étudier son œuvre scientifique en rapport avec le contexte scientifique de son époque pour mieux comprendre l’originalité de ses approches et analyser la réception complexe à laquelle elle donne lieu jusqu’à aujourd’hui, notamment dans le contexte des débats entourant l’ « orientalisme ».
