Imperial Artefacts: History, Law, and the Looting of Cultural Property
This interdisciplinary conference aspires to bring together (post-)colonial historians, legal historians, curators, international lawyers, and others engaged with the field to establish research collaborations by critically investigating stories of colonial looting, the framing of colonial history within museums, the origins of the legal framework concerning European laws of war and restitution, as well as a way forward for restitution claims.

Space as environment, resources and memory
Les temps sont aujourd’hui propices à la réflexion sur les formes de partage du sol et des espaces que nous habitons. « Sol(s) en partage », thématique des rencontres du réseau Espace rural et projet spatial (ERPS) 2021, sera l'occasion de venir interroger la nécessité et l’urgence de mieux partager les sols, de mieux les considérer, les protéger, les ménager, les affecter, les utiliser, les exploiter, les mutualiser, etc. en écho à la nécessité de faire commun. Ces rencontres ont pour ambition de dresser un premier portrait des manières dont le sol est questionné et mobilisé par toutes les sphères participant de la transformation des territoires, que celles-ci soient académiques, institutionnelles, associatives, habitantes, etc. Les contributions viendront nourrir le débat autour de la convocation du sol comme matière première et support essentiels du projet et à engager une reconquête par le sol entendu comme à la fois milieu, ressource et mémoire.

Borders in the Americas – Integration, Security and Migrations
In the aftermath of the collapse of the Soviet Union, many analysts and experts argued that the world had reached the “end of history” [Fukuyama, 1992] and that regional and local organizations and free trade agreements (among which the European Union appeared to be a model of integration) signaled the emergence of a world without borders. Yet, thirty years later, the reality seems to be altogether different. Today, it is clear that “borders are back”. Whether these borders are challenged, violated, transcended, consolidated, or integrated, they remain necessarily at the heart of the political debate. This symposium will focus on a specific geographic area: the Americas.

Ten years after Argentina's emblematic "same-sex marriage" law, this issue of Cahiers des Amériques Latines examines the notion of a "rights revolution" [Encarnación, 2016] and takes stock of the situation of sexual and gender minorities in the region. Three lines of research seem essential to propose a critical reflection on the reality of sexual and gender minorities and to evaluate the LGBTQI+ "rights revolution" in Latin America.

The humanities and social sciences in Latin America, 1950-2020
L’histoire des sciences humaines et sociales en Amérique latine a donné lieu, notamment à partir des années 1990, à une littérature abondante, très majoritairement en langue espagnole. Cette historiographie constitue le contexte des acquis et des lacunes au regard duquel des questionnaires et des objets d’enquête peuvent être redéfinis, prolongés ou revisités. C’est l’objectif de ce dossier de la Revue d’histoire des sciences humaines qui souhaite contribuer à explorer, dans une démarche résolument historienne, des voies d’un continent intellectuel dont il ne s’agit pas de poser le périmètre a priori.

Women in the production and diffusion of historical knowledge in French Canada, 19th and 20th centuries
Ce projet de journée d’étude veut mettre en lumière les diverses formes de participation et de contribution des femmes du Canada français au dynamisme d’un champ historique en constante métamorphose. Par là, il entend aussi offrir de nouvelles pistes d’analyse pour déjouer la construction genrée du champ de la pratique historienne et mieux comprendre l’effacement mémoriel de certaines de ses ouvrières. Aux côtés de figures mieux établies, qui retiendront aussi l’attention, se trouvent plusieurs praticiennes n’ayant pas investi à hauteur suffisante les formes canoniques d’expression disciplinaire - la monographie d’histoire, l’article scientifique ou la synthèse historique - mais dont la contribution mérite d’être mieux reconnue et étudiée.

Online Course on the US Original Constitution and its Reception in Brazil
In times of Covid19, the Federal University of Paraiba, UFPB, opens this course to the global audience. Students from the world will have the opportunity to discuss the USA and Brazil's constitutional history from the Founding Era to the end of the nineteenth century with an instructor and Brazilian students of its Graduate Program in Law. The UFPB offers these lectures through the Google Meet platform with a limited number of spots for better development of the studies and discussions amongst participants. Some international scholars will take part in the course as special guests presenting seminars about their newly published books or legal articles in which they are authors on subjects connected to constitutional matters. 100% online course.

The South Atlantic route and the business of the maritime transport of migrants (1870-1960)
The objective is to propose a special issue to the Journal of Transatlantic Studies, by contributing for the understanding of the business of emigrant maritime transport from the Belle Epoque until the end of the 1960s. The editors of the special issue (Yvette Santos and Paulo César Gonçalves) accept proposals focused on the study of the migration industry linked to the maritime transportation of emigrants from Europe to the South Atlantic countries.

Post-Doctoral Fellowship ANR RelRace
The postdoctoral researcher is recruited to work more specifically in Axis 1 of the program. Requested profile is a specialist in American religious history and more specifically of African-American religious expressions (North America and the English-speaking Caribbean as a priority but the rest of America is not excluded). He/She will have to work around the construction of racial counter-genealogies produced from religious supports (Gehazi curse in the Bible II Kings 5, creation of the white race by Yakûb in the narratives of the Nation of Islam…) reversing the stigma that made Africans or Blacks the descendants of a cursed lineage (Cain’s mark, Cham’s curse…) or reshaping the notion of elected people. He/She may, in this context, conduct his/her own work but will have to participate in the coordination of collective research particularly around the production of the collaborative and collective database of the program.

Les Cahiers d’études des cultures ibériques et latino-américaines (CECIL)
The problem of representation is central to the disciplinary fields of all the human and social sciences, most often implicitly. This omnipresence sometimes makes us forget that it is a notion whose definition, status and function are subject to the fluctuations of history. What interests us is the discrepancy between what this notion has been able to encompass over time and what it encompasses nowadays, as well as the explanation that can be given to these discrepancies or possible ruptures. The reflection focuses in particular on the link between the notion of representation and the notions of 'heritage' - tangible or intangible objects, but also products of a social construction - and of 'memory', since it is constructed through concrete representations, whether social or discursive practices.

XVIII International Symposium on Civilizing Processes
The National University of Colombia and the Department of Citizen Culture of the Secretary of Culture, Recreation and Sport of Bogota, Colombia have joined forces to organize the upcoming XVIII International Symposium on Civilizing Processes (SIPC). The SIPCs were born in 1996 on a Brazilian initiative and have been held every two years in Latin America to encourage the exchange of ideas and research results among scientists from various disciplines who find in Norbert Elias’ work a source of guidance in facing the challenges of today’s world and who share an interest in social sciences adjusted to reality.

Ce colloque international se fixe comme objectif de faire revivre ces hauts-lieux d’une culture populaire dans les sociétés européennes, méditerranéennes et nord-américaines, pour une période qui s’étend du milieu du XVIIIe siècle jusqu’aux débuts du XXe siècle. De nombreuses questions se posent dans ce contexte, en commençant par la nature des établissements eux-mêmes et leur inscription dans la ville ou le village : que savons-nous de la topographie des cafés, tavernes, etc. (leur densité, leur rapport à l’espace religieux, sportif à la fin du XIXe siècle…), de leur architecture et de leur décoration, et de la figure du tavernier et cafetier elle-même, susceptible de revêtir un rôle important au niveau social et politique, mais aussi économique en tant qu’entrepreneur de divertissements ?

This meeting is a continuation of the UFA (French-German University) Montpellier-Weimar Colloquium "Construction of myths of war heroes (Germany, France, Japan) organized by Philippe Wellnitz and Gérard Siary in Berlin in 2014. After having there discussed the ambivalence in the construction of "war-heroe", this new conference is interested this time in two other ambivalences associated with the Second World War: those of the positioning of certain host states and "the ethics of survival" of persecuted persons who fled from Axis-occupied territories to other Axis-allied or to neutral States.

Entre 2006 et 2019, les gouvernements successifs d’Evo Morales ont promu un « processus de changement » de la société bolivienne. Ce processus a comporté différentes dimensions, plus ou moins valorisées par l’actualité politique et plus ou moins étudiées par la recherche académique en sciences humaines et sociales. Sans chercher à dresser des bilans définitifs de la période considérée, et avec le recul qui s’impose face à une actualité souvent pressée, ce numéro spécial vise à revenir sur ces treize années pour tâcher de mieux les comprendre, en croisant des regards inédits et pluridisciplinaires, fondés empiriquement sur des dimensions généralement moins étudiées du « processus de changement ».

La compréhension des diverses formes de domination (appartenance sociale, raciale, identité de sexe et de genre) dans les Amériques requiert de prendre également en compte le racisme environnemental. Par exemple, les projets urbains les plus polluants sont fréquemment concentrés dans les quartiers accueillant des populations pauvres, des minorités ethniques ou des membres de peuples indigènes. Dans une approche interdisciplinaire, ce colloque veut mettre en lumière des perspectives explorant les convergences possibles entre sources et objets de recherches.
