  Italy and Yugoslavia in the Interwar Period

  Monographic issue of “Qualestoria. Rivista di storia contemporanea”

  The signing of the Treaty of Rapallo in 1920 made it possible to find a solution to the Italian-Yugoslav dispute over the north-eastern Adriatic border, a solution that would last substantially until the Italian invasion of the neighbouring kingdom in World War 2. Relations between Italy and Yugoslavia, particularly since the end of the 1920s, with the beginning of the more decidedly revisionist phase of fascist foreign policy regarding the structures of the Danubian-Balkan area, were never easy. However, the signing of the Treaty of Rapallo represented an undoubtedly important moment, which greatly contributed to restore a climate of collaboration between the two countries, heavily jeopardized by border nationalism and by the D’Annunzio’s “impresa di Fiume”, interrupted precisely by the Treaty of Rapallo.

Issue des mouvements révolutionnaires et militaires qui aboutirent à la formation de gouvernements indépendants et des régimes politiques modernes sur des territoires qui jusqu’alors avaient appartenu aux possessions d’outre-mer des empires de l’Espagne et du Portugal, la Colombie se composait de l’union des actuels États de Colombie, du Venezuela, d'Équateur et du Panama. Le congrès d’histoire à la Villa du Rosaire, tout en profitant de l’actuelle conjoncture commemorative, offre une occasion de réflexion unique sur les indépendances et sur l’histoire contemporaine colombienne en général.

  The week: partitioning and uses of social time, 19th-20th centuries

  La semaine est évidemment une veille affaire puisqu’elle présida à l’invention du monde. Mais il se trouve que beaucoup l’oublièrent. Si ses usages, notamment religieux, ont longtemps ordonné l’organisation du temps collectif, ils tendirent à s’affaiblir dans le cours ordinaire des choses qui lui préféra d’autres scansions, quotidiennes, agricoles, saisonnières, etc. Une inflexion est cependant sensible à compter de la fin du XIX^e siècle. Le déclin (relatif) de la semaine religieuse s’accompagne en effet, et paradoxalement, d’usages de plus en plus nombreux de découpes hebdomadaires. Au théâtre, puis au cinéma, la « semaine culturelle » a le vent en poupe. Le monde des affaires ou celui de la politique tendent également à réordonner le temps sur un mode hebdomadaire. Ce sont les usages renouvelés du temps par la découpe hebdomadaire que cette livraison entend explorer, à partir d’une série d’essais empiriques centrés sur des pratiques ou des activités caractéristiques de la modernité occidentale.

  Objet d’attention croissante des sciences sociales, le graffiti est resté trop souvent pour l’historien une source occasionnelle. Le présent appel entend rassembler des communications qui s’interrogent sur les modalités d’intervention dans l’espace public du graffiti, que ce soit d’un point de vue contestataire ou par les pouvoirs eux-mêmes. Souvent stigmatisés comme une forme de délinquance, les graffitis politiques ont une histoire et portent la trace d’une modalité de communication politique, dont les spécificités méritent d'être précisés par des études de cas portant sur des époques et des cadres géographiques différents. Une attention aux méthodes permettant aux historien·nes de se saisir de cet objet particulier et son rapport au politique serait bienvenue.

  The representation

  Les Cahiers d’études des cultures ibériques et latino-américaines (CECIL)

  The problem of representation is central to the disciplinary fields of all the human and social sciences, most often implicitly. This omnipresence sometimes makes us forget that it is a notion whose definition, status and function are subject to the fluctuations of history. What interests us is the discrepancy between what this notion has been able to encompass over time and what it encompasses nowadays, as well as the explanation that can be given to these discrepancies or possible ruptures. The reflection focuses in particular on the link between the notion of representation and the notions of 'heritage' - tangible or intangible objects, but also products of a social construction - and of 'memory', since it is constructed through concrete representations, whether social or discursive practices.

  73rd congress of the Institut d'histoire de l'Amérique française (IHAF)

  Pour son 73^e congrès, qui aura lieu à Orford en Estrie les 15, 16 et 17 octobre 2020, l'Institut d'histoire de l'Amérique française sollicite des communications qui mobilisent la notion d’événement, mais également qui la mettent à l’épreuve et la questionnent, des communications qui cherchent à révéler des aspects méconnus d’événements bien enracinés dans les récits historiques, mais également qui mettent ou remettent en scène des événements oubliés de l’historiographie ou de la mémoire collective, des communications qui réfléchissent à la manière dont l’événement est fabriqué, historicisé. Au final, nous n’avons pas à choisir entre l’événement et la longue durée, mais il y a certainement une nécessité de réfléchir à la place de l’événement dans la longue durée.

  Arbitrariness and arbitration: the grey areas of power (12th-18th century)

  Dans le monde occidental contemporain régi par le droit et la loi, par les constitutions et les chartes, envahi par une normativité galopante, l’idée que le pouvoir puisse avoir une part d’arbitraire peut surprendre ou choquer. En 1690 pourtant, Antoine Furetière proposait une définition nuancée de l'arbitraire, reflétant une signification ancienne inspirée de la pratique du droit : « qui dépend de l’estimation des hommes, qui n’est point fixé par le droit, ni par la loi » ; un sens que l’on retrouve déjà chez Jean Froissart en 1397 : « qui dépend de la décision du juge », tout simplement. Ce colloque, au carrefour de l’histoire, du droit, de la philosophie et de l’anthropologie, propose d’envisager de manière pluridisciplinaire ou interdisciplinaire et par une lecture comparative les pratiques arbitraires/arbitrales dans le champ du droit privé, du droit pénal et de l’exercice du pouvoir public.

  The period 1815-1848 not only was characterized by several waves of revolution in Europe, the Atlantic world and beyond, but also by large movements of migration. Although these migrations can often be associated with political uprisings, only few connections have been made between the study of migration history and history of political thought and practices. This one-day conference aims to bring together these different strands of research and to discuss how experiences of migration and cross-boundary mobility contributed to the formation of common revolutionary cultures in the period 1815-1848.

  Panel - APAD conference 2020

  How do texts, practices and tools related to the “migration and development” debate circulate? This panel offers to analyse the processes of imposition, translation or hybridization, along with “travelling models”, and the appropriation or resistance experiences of the different categories of actors involved in migration/development governance. We examine the transnational circulation of texts and narratives that have become references for development practitioners in the Global South; the performativity of technical and managerial instruments, case models and “good practices”; the changes in the intermediaries and brokers categories.

  Violencia y política en Latinoamérica: instituciones, sociedad civil y conflictividad

  Deuxième journée d’étude

  Cette journée d'études portera sur les liens entre violence et politique dans l'Amérique latine contemporaine (XX^e-XXI^e). Nous nous proposons d'examiner le phénomène de la violence comme élément structurant du politique dans le sous-continent, qu'il s'agisse d'une violence d'« en haut » (contrôle, répression exercés par l'État), d'« en bas », sous une forme extrême ou diffuse. Nous nous interrogerons sur les modalités de manifestation et d'expression de la violence, ainsi que sur les buts qu'elle peut servir. Les transmutations de la violence à l'œuvre actuellement seront également analysées (porosité croissante entre violence politique et criminalité, débordement du cadre étatique, narcoétat).

  Upon obtaining power in 2015, the Liberals promised a radical departure from Conservative orientations, especially with regard to social and foreign policy, as well as a firm commitment toward reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. Following the party’s reelection (albeit as a minority government) in October 2019, the time has come for a comprehensive review of the Liberals’ first mandate under Trudeau. Études Canadiennes/Canadian Studies therefore solicits papers examining various aspects of these first four years in power, relating to the aforementioned policy areas, or others. Did the Liberals succeed in significantly re-orienting Canadian policy toward their preferred objectives?
