Thinking from the Dual – Ontology, Theology and the Humanities through the Lens of the “Muthannā”
This international conference explores the philosophical and theological implications of the Arabic grammatical dual (al-muthannā). Situated between the paradigms of unity and multiplicity that have long structured philosophical thought, the dual offers a distinctive relational structure in which two terms are held together without fusion or hierarchy. Taking this linguistic form as a conceptual starting point, the conference investigates the possibility of thinking relation itself as originary. Particular attention will be given to the concept of ʿahd (covenant, pact, commitment) as a relational event in Islamic theology and beyond. Bringing together philosophers, theologians, and scholars from the humanities and social sciences, the conference seeks to open a field of inquiry devoted to the ontological, theological, and anthropological significance of the dual in contemporary thought.

Dans cet esprit, le musée attribue tous les ans des contrats postdoctoraux, notamment dans les disciplines suivantes : anthropologie, archéologie, histoire, histoire des arts, sociologie, ethnomusicologie. Cette année, le musée du quai Branly -Jacques Chirac attribue deux contrats postdoctoraux pour une durée de deux ans (2026-2028).

Candidature à la bourse d’études doctorales « Les esclavages et leurs héritages »
Cette bourse doctorale est attribuée conjointement par la Fondation pour la Mémoire de l’Esclavage et le musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac. Elle est destinée aux doctorants et doctorantes en phase de rédaction et qui seront inscrit·es en troisième année de thèse ou plus en septembre 2026. Leurs recherches doivent relever de disciplines comme l’anthropologie, l’archéologie, l’histoire, l’histoire des arts, la sociologie et les arts du spectacle et/ou traiter des thématiques et développer les approches privilégiées par la Fondation, à savoir : l’histoire culturelle et des représentations, la muséologie et la patrimonialisation, l’étude des sociétés post-esclavagistes et des héritages sociaux et culturels matériels et immatériels, l’étude des dynamiques sociales des résistances, les perspectives africaines sur l’esclavage.

Morice Awwad: Poetry, Language, and Lebanese Culture
Morice Awwad Chair invites scholars and researchers to explore the work of Morice Awwad (1934–2018), a major figure in contemporary Lebanese poetry. Awwad forged a distinctly Lebanese aesthetic by articulating cultural heritage with the challenges of modernity—marked by fragmentation, war, exile, and linguistic tension. By asserting the singularity of “Lebanese” as a language of poetic creation, he developed a mode of being and expression situated between strong local belonging and openness to the universal.

La culture palestinienne est marquée par le lien étroit avec les notions de mémoire / mémoires et de transmission. Ces mémoires s’expriment à travers une pluralité de récits, de pratiques et de formes d’expression (qu’elles soient artistiques, patrimoniales, linguistiques ou encore sociales). Elles se matérialisent dans des traces visibles et invisibles (objets, archives photographiques, récits oraux, chants traditionnels, pratiques artisanales) mais aussi dans les œuvres contemporaines qui réinterprètent et contribuent à perpétuer ces héritages.

Playing with uncertainty, gambling with crises
The rise of Gambling, mechanisms and consequences
This session aims to analyse the rise of gambling in Africa as a major social, economic, and territorial phenomenon. It will examine the reconfiguration of gambling spaces linked to digitalisation, as well as the role of betting in a context shaped by precarity and uncertainty as experienced by urban youth. Through several papers and a roundtable discussion devoted to the Senegalese case, the session will highlight the global circulations and North–South asymmetries that structure this rapidly expanding industry.

This workshop seeks to explore the links between preaching and socio-humanitarian action in the contemporary Middle East. Contexts of social and humanitarian crises appear as privileged sites for understanding this constitutive device of faith experiences, beyond the sole framework of the sermon or religious discourse. The chosen approach is deliberately cross-cutting: it brings Islam, Judaism, and Christianity into dialogue, while situating the Middle East within a global perspective. How does preaching accompany and shape social and humanitarian action? In what forms and according to which modalities does it unfold? How does it influence the understanding and implementation of aid?

Economy of leftovers and recycling
Social, political and environmental dynamics in the Global South
Economies built around waste – rubbish, unsold goods, surplus, scrap, used materials – are becoming increasingly important in the Global South. This issue therefore aims to examine these forms of economic activity from three main perspectives: environmental, socio-economic and political. The objective is to bring together empirical and theoretical work that documents, compares and problematises these waste economies based on surveys conducted in Southern countries, while taking into account the circulation and cross-influences with Northern countries. These ‘waste products’ can take various forms, which the issue intends to consider in an open and pluralistic perspective.

5ème rencontres de l'Association Interdisciplinaire des Ethnographies Japonaises
L’Association interdisciplinaire des ethnographies japonaises anime des journées d’étude annuelles consacrées à la présentation de terrains en cours. Ces journées sont ouvertes à toutes et tous, jeunes chercheurs comme vétérans, dès lors que l’ethnographie joue un rôle central dans vos recherches. Les objectifs de ces rencontres sont multiples : effectuer un état des lieux des enquêtes récentes et des projets à venir ; initier des collaborations nouvelles ; ouvrir une fenêtre aux étudiants de Master intéressés par l’ethnographie appliquée au Japon ; approfondir des questionnements sur la méthode ethnographique et partager des « trucs de terrain ».

Recherche, création et performance dans les arts de la scène
Revue Cahiers de littérature orale (n°102)
La recherche-création connaît actuellement un grand engouement, ouvrant à de nouvelles formes d’écriture et de diffusion des travaux scientifiques, invitant au dialogue entre chercheurs et artistes, et explorant les relations entre les mondes académiques et artistiques. Les collaborations entre chercheurs et artistes se nouent ainsi dans de nombreuses disciplines, tant artistiques que scientifiques, témoignant d’un champ de recherche très dynamique. Ce numéro a pour ambition d’interroger ces articulations entre arts et sciences en croisant les champs des arts de la scène ou arts vivants dans leur diversité avec ceux des sciences sociales et des études sur l’oralité et la performance.

Migrations Est et Sud-Est asiatiques en France depuis 1860
Deuxième année du séminaire organisé par le réseau « Migrations asiatiques en France », co-animé par Simeng Wang, Miyako Hayakawa et Julien Le Hoangan. En puisant dans les méthodes diverses des sciences sociales, ce séminaire vise avant tout à introduire les étudiant·es aux histoires, connaissances clefs et travaux incontournables dans les études de migrations de l’Asie de l’Est et du Sud-Est en France. En mobilisant les recherches historiques et les enquêtes empiriques récemment menées sur le sol français, ce séminaire se propose de mettre en valeur plus d’un siècle de migrations asiatiques en France, jusqu’ici relativement peu racontées, dans une perspective comparative.

The social life of names and naming practices in migration contexts
This workshop aims to reflect on names and naming practices in the context of migration from a variety of disciplines of the humanities and social sciences, tackling present or historical situations analyzed through empirical case studies. It is convened as part of the multidisciplinary research project DIASCO-TIB project (ANR 23 CE41 0017) that examines various processes of linguistic and social convergence and divergence at play in the Tibetan diaspora, mainly in France but also in other geographical spaces.

Nuudel : migration, déplacement. Ouvrir le dia- du dialogue : penser l’alter et le commun, ce qui désunit et fait rencontre ; ainsi l’élan de Nuudel, nouvelle revue franco-mongole, qui ouvrira chaque semestre le dialogue entre des pensées plurielles de ces deux côtés du monde - qui malgré leur lien diplomatique, ne se rencontre trop peu – ces voix souvent silencieuses ou inouïes, impulsées par une thématique. Naissante, la revue Nuudel lance son premier appel à publication autour du thème « Frontières », à destination des chercheurs, poètes, philosophes, artistes et penseurs de ces deux ciels : la France et la Mongolie.

En juillet 2024, nous apprenions le décès de l’anthropologue et politiste états-unien James C. Scott, dont les travaux figurent désormais parmi les classiques des sciences sociales. Son œuvre se distingue par l’ampleur de ses enquêtes tout comme par la richesse de ses concepts et leur dimension heuristique. Elle participe à jeter un regard nouveau sur des questions classiques des sciences sociales et de l’anarchisme comme celles de la définition de l’État, du politique, ou encore des modes de domination et de résistance à l’autorité.

While considering the ongoing changes in the SWANA region, the conference has the ambition to lay the foundation for new research projects on youths that explore how the challenges and intersections within existing approaches can contribute to advancing research. We are looking to bring together researchers to consider the legacy of earlier youth mobilizations on today’s youth, whilst discussing new and emerging research which enables theoretical, methodological, and spatial ways of understanding the lived experiences and futures of young people in the region. We will examine the extent to which this category can be mobilized as an analytical tool in its own right, and we question its conceptual relevance, as well as its limits and its potential blind spots.

Arab Theatres’ Archives and Historiographies
This issue aims to question the historiography of theatres in the Arab worlds and to reread it in light of its relationship to the archives of the performing arts. It will focus on the reasons and circumstances that lead to preserve traces of the performing arts, as well as on the assumptions and methods underling the writing of theatre history.
