1715-1716: The Apex of Jacobitism?
Origins, Representations, and Legacies: Essays in Honour of Daniel Szechi
This collection of essays, entitled ’1715-16 : The Apex of Jacobitism ? Origins, Representations and Legacies’, in honour of the life work of Professor Daniel Szechi aims to re-evaluate the 1715 rising in its broader international context and within the heritage of the long eighteenth century. Contributors who have encountered the Jacobite rising in their respective fields, for example, while studying its industrial, intellectual, and scholarly impact from the Treaty of Union to the present, are invited to propose their contributions. As Jacobitism was a ubiquitous landmark of the eighteenth century, researchers are invited to question the military, political, literary, and/or cultural significance of the rising. The editors are particularly interested in consequential research on the rising through a comparative perspective in the interdisciplinary fields of literature, material culture, and travel or media studies.

The economy of salvation and the challenge of public order
La journée d'étude s'inscrit dans deux projets scientifiques : le premier annuellement à Orléans pour valoriser la recherche en histoire du droit médiéval et le second en partenariat avec d'autres institutions autour de la théologie comme matrice du discours juridique. Il s'agit là d'étudier en lien entre elles la pénitence, notamment au regard des institutions (pénitencerie apostolique, pénitenciers diocésains) et la concomitante « révolution de l'inquisitoire », c'est-à-dire l'apparition d'une nouvelle procédure d'enquête confiée à un juge au service d'une autorité publique en cours d'affirmation. Un nouveau paradigme de vérité se met en place au tournant des XIIe et XIIIe siècles visant à déterminer à la fois la matérialité des faits en cause et les dispositions subjectives de l'individu poursuivi.

Influences d'ici et d'ailleurs
Le juge joue un rôle essentiel dans la validation du droit coutumier. S’il ne participe pas directement à son élaboration, c’est lui qui en reconnaît l’existence et le consacre par la décision qu’il rend. Bien souvent, c’est son intervention qui donne corps aux règles coutumières. C’est aussi elle qui permet l’évolution de ces dernières. Coutume et jurisprudence semblent ainsi inexorablement liées. Pourtant, alors même que divers travaux se sont récemment encore penchés sur cette question problématique, voire épineuse, les liens entre coutume et jurisprudence appellent encore bien des travaux, en particulier en Normandie.

The International Symposium on the History of Crime is a forum for international university students to explore the understanding of issues surrounding the history of crime. The annual symposium was created to bring together doctoral, masters, and undergraduate students as well as early career academics in a friendly academic environment that facilitates discussion around history of crime issues. This Third edition will be attended by students and academics from the USA, UK and France. The symposium is deliberately broad in reach and we make every effort to draw together wide and diverse topics in order that contributors feel encouraged to participate and present their research in-progress as well as engaging and informative short papers.

The body in law - doctoral workshops in the history and anthropology of law
Journées doctorales d'histoire et d'anthropologie du droit
Autorisation de la gestation pour autrui (GPA), statut des embryons congelés, réflexion sur l’euthanasie, légalisation de la prostitution, réattribution sexuelle, la question du corps est plus que jamais d’actualité pour le législateur, le juge et le justiciable. L’absence de consensus sur ces questionnements et les débats passionnés qu’entrainent toutes les problématiques liées au corps sont la conséquence directe de la difficulté à définir juridiquement ce concept. Nous allons modestement tenter de faire le point sur le statut juridique du corps. Pour ce faire, nous convierons l’Histoire du Droit, l’Anthropologie juridique, la Philosophie du droit et le droit positif. Surtout, tout au long de ces deux journées, nous nous transporterons en différents lieux et à différentes époques pour, au moyen de ce voyage temporel et spatial, tenter de dessiner une histoire et une géographie de l'appréciation du corps par le droit.

Police and Public Order in France and England (1750-1850)
Perspectives from current historiography
Traditional historiography has often opposed the French police model to its English counterpart. However, for twenty years, many researchers relativized the differences of these models and focused more on the interactions between cultures of social control. Recent studies have shown the limits of approaches focused on the only national police models as well as the importance of the circulation of police knowledge and technics in the late 18th century and early 19th century. Everywhere in Europe, this period is marked by the will to reform and by reflections on the procedures for the exercise of the police. Through a panel of international researchers, the conference aims to investigate beyond the national perspective by questioning the permanence and changes in police practices on both sides of the Channel. We will ultimately highlight the major trends of contemporary historiography and identify new paths of work.

Il est co-organisé par le Groupe de Recherche en Histoire Intellectuelle (Centre de recherches historiques, EA 1571, Université Paris 8) et le Centre Roland Mousnier (UMR 8596, Université Paris Sorbonne) le mardi de 147h à 19h.
