Berggebiete als globale Zulieferer: Neue Formen regionaler Disparitäten zwischen Berggebieten und Metropolregionen

Sozio-ökonomische Berggebietsforschung hat sich in der Vergangenheit zumeist mit der Beschreibung, Interpretation und dem Umgang mit Wirtschaftsschwäche und Bevölkerungsrückgang beschäftigt. Mit dem demnächst erscheinenden Themenheft zu neuen Einwanderern (editiert von Federica Corrado) zeichnen wir ein anderes Bild, das des sozio-demographischen Wachstums. Das neue Themenheft möchte beide Fragestellungen sowohl theoretisch als auch empirisch zusammenführen und damit einen Beitrag leisten zu Risiken und Chancen hochspezialisierter Berggebietsentwicklung. Dabei soll die Frage nach „spatial justice” (Edward Soja, 2010) aufgeworfen und nach potentiellen alternativen Entwicklungspfaden gesucht werden.

Cosmopolitanism and Europe

A possible convergence ?

Over the last twenty years, numerous essays (theoretical and empirical) have been published on the sociology of Europe and of cosmopolitanism. In contrast, research on possible ties between the two has been more rare. If cosmopolitan sociology can be considered as an attempt to understand how individuals, social groups and institutions deal with the challenges of ever more transnational social processes, then the European issue can be fully inserted within such an approach. On the two distinct planes of socialisation of individuals and of their governance, Europe represents in miniature a field of observation of the ways in which citizens and institutions are dealing with situations that require conceptual frameworks and analyses of social reality that go beyond the traditional sociology of Nation-States. It might therefore be opportune to attempt to understand such transnational dynamics by examining how internal and external, political and symbolic borders uniting groups (from micro- to macro-scales) become nowadays paradoxically ever more open and ever more closed. In Gerard Delanty’s view, « the cosmopolitanism imagination occurs when and wherever new relations between self, other and world develop in moments of openness ».

Every student of the 17th or 18th century encounters in his or her own way the global historical dimensions of the more or less ‘domestic’ (provincial, national) subject being addressed. For decades, perhaps, many of us ignored these ramifications, which among other things were hard to treat because we are generally hardpressed to bring to such subjects the kind of specialized knowledge we are used to. (There are of course exceptions, involving colleagues who consciously adopt a global approach, e.g. Atlantic studies, though even these are no doubt truncated in different ways.) In all, the global was not an ‘aporia’ of our studies, so much as something more or less difficult to draw into the discussion and, in that sense, an ‘impensé’.

Vivre, consommer et agir dans une Palestine glocale

La réalité palestinienne, marquée par le conflit, a le plus souvent été analysée au seul prisme de sa spécificité politique ou culturelle. Or, de nouvelles manières de vivre, de consommer et d’agir inscrites dans un registre global ont vu le jour ces dernières années et sont largement restées inexplorées. Le colloque réunira essentiellement des chercheurs et doctorants en sciences sociales et humaines travaillant sur la Palestine mais sont aussi sollicitées des recherches sur d’autres terrains (Maghreb / Moyen-Orient / Europe) dans une dimension comparative. Ce colloque entend par ailleurs confronter des approches différentes : entre art et science, recherche et action, il fera dialoguer les sciences sociales avec les travaux d’artistes, d’architectes, les pensées et modes d’action de collectifs militants et citoyens.

Revue Espaces et Sociétés

Les mouvements de massification scolaire constatés dans la plupart des systèmes éducatifs des cinquante dernières années ont considérablement transformé les enjeux liés aux espaces scolaires et éducatifs. On observe une recomposition de ces espaces qui interrogent l’articulation des missions traditionnelles de l’école autour de l’instruction et de la transmission des apprentissages, avec des prises en charge éducatives plus larges qui répondent à de nouvelles problématiques. Ce numéro s'intéresse aux modalités de recomposition des espaces scolaires et éducatifs en rapport avec la prise en charge locale (collectivités locales et territoriales, associations communautaires ou de proximité, mouvements d’éducation populaire…) des problématiques sociales et scolaires qui marquent l'école contemporaine. Dans un contexte concurrentiel où les espaces urbains et scolaires sont de plus en plus hiérarchisés, où les frontières intérieures à l’école se renforcent, où les frontières extérieures sont mouvantes, nous interrogeons les liens entre les ségrégations spatiales, les parcours scolaires et les formes de traitement des nouvelles problématiques éducatives.

Bilan et perspectives

In 1980, François Furet established the first visiting chair in North American studies at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in partnership with the French-American Foundation. Yet, it was not until 1984 and the election of Jean Heffer as permanent full professor that the Center for North American Studies (CENA) came into being. Despite pioneering efforts in some English departments and the creation of the first university chair in North American history at the Sorbonne in 1967, there was significant disparity between the importance of the USA in the contemporary world and the weakness of North American studies in France. Over the last thirty years and under the supervision of Jean Heffer and François Weil, the CENA has become one of the leading institutions for North American scholarship in France and Europe.

À l’occasion du centenaire de la première guerre mondiale, le numéro 6 d’Arabian Humanities portera sur l’histoire de la péninsule Arabique, de la mer Rouge et du Golfe à l’époque de la guerre. En prenant pour objet les circulations dans / vers / depuis la mer Rouge, la péninsule Arabique et le Golfe, ce numéro veut remettre en question la position périphérique et isolée de la région pendant le guerre, examiner les réorganisations spatiales et territoriales qui ont touché les mouvements et les échanges, et accorder plus d’attention aux liens de la région avec le reste du monde. Quels échanges, par exemple, peut-on identifier à cette époque à la fois dans la région et dans son contexte mondial ? Dans quelle mesure la guerre toucha-t-elle ces circulations dans une région où les limites et les frontières restaient poreuses, mal définies, et disputées ?

L’ESSD (« European Society for Social Drug Research »), fondée en 1990, est une association européenne de chercheurs en sciences humaines et sociales sur le phénomène des drogues. Son objectif principal est de promouvoir la recherche sur les addictions et les substances psychoactives en Europe. La société organise une conférence et publie un ouvrage scientifique de façon annuelle. Cette année, qui marque la XXV^e édition du colloque s’intéressera au développement des « New Psychoactives Substances » (NPS), des méthodologies de recherche par internet, des enjeux éthiques et de l’importance des flux migratoires en Europe.

The concept of object is one of the most general concepts in philosophy. On the one hand, we may be interested in the general question of what it is to be an object. On the other hand, we face the problem of delineating the criteria of objecthood in connection with specialized topics, giving rise to specific questions on what it is to be an object of a certain kind (such as concrete, abstract, indeterminate, mathematical, etc.) Accepting or refusing things of a certain kind as legitimate objects (of that particular kind) when developing a scientific theory or a philosophical position is likely to have important general repercussions. In our workshop we wish to investigate the notion of object, both generally and in relation to particular fields of research. The emphasis is on the grounds and consequences of specific views on objects.

Art, hybridation et circulation au temps des empires en Amérique (XIIIe-XVIIe siècle)

El siglo XVI representó una época de grandes cambios y transformaciones que marcaron la vida política y económica del Viejo Mundo. Los europeos impulsaron una empresa mundial del saber que contribuyó a la creación de nuevas culturas y nuevos saberes, adaptadas a las circunstancias particulares de la interacción, que fueron reelaboradas por las poblaciones nativas bajo la influencia de las tradiciones locales. Uno de los ámbitos en los que puede apreciarse esta “mezcla” es en el campo artístico, donde la influencia de los motivos indígenas es incuestionable. En estas jornadas, se cuestionarán las formas híbridas que se producieron en el campo del arte con el contacto entre los imperios americanos e peninsulares así como la circulación de objetos, personas y saberes entre ambos lados del Atlántico. Tampoco se olvidarán las influencias del arte americano sobre Europa.

The TRICUD Final International Conference on "Transnationalism, Identities’ Dynamics and Cultural Diversification in Urban Post-migratory Situations" will take place at the University of Liège on 14, 15 and 16 May 2014. It aims at presenting the main findings of the multidisciplinary research programme TRICUD (2010-2014) involving the following research centres: CEDEM, CLEO and Pôle SuD. TRICUD aims to better understand how migration transforms both sending societies in the South and receiving societies in the North. The conference will include keynote speakers Nina GLICK-SCHILLER (University of Manchester) and Steve VERTOVEC (Max Planck Institute).

L’image du courtisan a été fréquemment étudiée par les historiens de l’art italien, notamment autour de la figure de Baldassare Castiglione. Elle a été, en revanche, singulièrement moins traitée en relation avec les pays d’Europe septentrionale – pays germaniques, Flandres, Provinces-Unies, France, Angleterre. À l’occasion de la rencontre de la RSA à Berlin (2015), nous souhaiterions aborder cette question en proposant une comparaison des théories et des pratiques, des rituels sociaux et religieux, des stratégies politiques et institutionnelles ou des mécanismes d’appartenance et de distinction élitaire. Il s’agira de reconstituer l’imaginaire du courtisan, qui suscite l’émulation entre les espaces curiaux traditionnels (France, Flandres), encourage de nouvelles formes de sociabilités (pays germaniques, Angleterre) ou est reformulé par des sociétés dénuées de cours officielles (Sept-Provinces). L’accent sera mis sur l’examen des formes symboliques prises par cet imaginaire dans les arts visuels (allégories, emblèmes, etc.) mais aussi dans l’architecture et le décor, où la notion de convenance est prépondérante.

Islam and Regional Cultures in Pakistan

With the hope of throwing new light on the transformations of Pakistani society, this one-day conference intends to move the focus away from two dominant discourses on Pakistan : that is, on the one hand, the security discourse of political and media circles that reduces Pakistan to a state on the fringe of failure, trying to cope with radical Islam and terrorism; and, on the other hand, Pakistan’s official nationalism, which rests on a unitary conception of the nation that disregards the cultural and religious diversity of the country, stressing instead Islam and Urdu as national unifiers while relegating regional cultures to folklore. This conference hopes to partly fill this gap by inviting participants to illustrate the complex, lived experience of Islam in Pakistan, the identity component of religious practices that do not fit in the dominant norm, and their inscription in local political and ethnic relations. Papers would ideally use first-hand observation and/or analyses of cultural productions to examine circumscribed case studies.

This one day event will also mark the end of the first phase of the labodanse project (labodanse.org) with Myriam Gourfink. Guerre froide et télévision de divertissement

La Guerre froide a eu un impact capital sur les idées et la culture. De nombreuses recherches ont d’ailleurs déjà été menées, notamment sur le cinéma, celui produit aux États-Unis et, de plus en plus, celui d’autres pays, de l’Est comme de l’Ouest. En revanche, malgré quelques exceptions importantes (portant, par exemple, sur les séries de science-fiction et d’espionnage), il existe peu d’études sur la télévision, alors que celle-ci est une technologie et une forme de culture populaire qui s’est développée pendant la Guerre froide. Ce colloque espère combler cette lacune et permettre d’examiner l’impact de la Guerre froide sur la télévision de divertissement. Il s’agit de développer l’aspect comparatif, et des émissions des deux blocs seront donc étudiées – en tenant compte, bien sûr, de l’impact démesuré de la télévision américaine.

C'est l'annonce et l'appel à communication pour le colloque international sur Michel Bakounine et l'Association Internationale des Travailleurs, organisé du 10 au 13 novembre 2014 à l'Université de São Paulo (FFLCH-USP) et qui implique à la fois historiens, géographes, philosophes et sociologues. Il s'agit à la fois de reconstruire la trajectoire du célèbre révolutionnaire russe pendant la période où il a participé aux activités de la Première Internationale (1864-1876) et de problématiser la contribution de Bakounine et de ses réseaux à la fondation du mouvement libertaire international et à l'histoire intellectuelle du socialisme. La date limite pour présenter des propositions de communication est fixée pour le 4 août 2014.

In his 1954 presentation to dignitaries from across Asia and Africa, Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai acknowledged the differences between the two cultural spheres; nevertheless, Zhou stressed, a more important factor in all future relations should be the “common experiences and desires” of people from across the two continents to create a new world from the ashes of war and colonialism. Building on Zhou’s insight into commonalities of experience, this presentation will trace the cultural intersections that have existed between China and African since the 1920s.
