Higher Education and Mobilities 2013
In a context of major change in both higher education and the academic world, transformations can be considered as multi-dimensional and include issues such as : high enrolment rates, increased social and cultural heterogeneity, development of and change in mobility (institutional, territorial, international), diversification of the offer of academic institutions (public and private, reconfiguration of the institutional landscape), changes in policy guidelines, such as the Bologna Process. The conference will focus on individual and group behaviours, strategies and trajectories which are strongly affected by and find themselves remodelled in the current context. We propose the term mobility as a central notion for apprehending the phenomena.

Identity ideologies, nationalisms, conflicts: Europe 1870-1922
The fifty years that go from the Franco-Prussian War to the end of the Great War and the advent of fascism in Italy (early and precursor totalitarian swing in post-war Europe) marks a new phase in representing the ideology of the ‘nation’ and the ‘nature of peoples’. The cultural processes which, between 18th and 19th centuries, had been used as consistent ideological repertoire for the political foundation of modern European nations, supported from the second half of the 19th century, the rapid nationalistic involution of national politics, functional to colonial expansionism and to the ruling continental objectives, but also to withstand and repress internal social conflicts. A cultural and political transition from romantic patriotism to imperialistic nationalism (that which Muarizio Virali has concisely defined “nationalization of patriotism”), for which those that had generally been considered simple differences of character, customs, and social habits between the peoples of nations are transformed into irreconcilable contrasts: the national state is the emanation of a homogeneous people, of a race, and the unshakeable otherness of the foreigner reflects and consolidates this belief. Making use of the instruments provided by disciplines such as socio-psychology, social anthropology, biology, social Darwinism, and with the approximate simplifications of those like Gobineau, Chamberlain, Nordau, Langbehn etc., it is believed that the character of peoples may be defined and thus mark national identities within an all absorbing viewpoint.

Populism: a historiographic category?
Populism is a category which is often abused in public discourse nowadays. For this reason, it is a category historians will have to face more and more frequently. In spite of this, it is undeniable that the issue is usually looked at from the perspective of political science or cultural studies, clearly dominated by a need for conceptualization and abstraction of the category.

Mediterranean Europe in the EU: spaces, cultures, policies and players
Officina della Storia Review
Economic crisis has turned on lights on Mediterranean Europe’s countries and the role-played in the European integration process and as interface between the EU and countries, policies and cultures coming from Mediterranean Area. Moreover, events such the Arab Spring have brought back the idea of Mediterranean as a wide and complex meeting place where cultures, faiths, different political and social experiences meet, and sometimes clash, developing opportunities of dialogue and integration.

Mediasphere, Culture, Soft Power
In the wake of the London Olympics, which opened with a popular and populist ceremony depicting the Britain of yesteryear while celebrating the vibrancy of a modern multicultural society, it is timely to consider this deployment of soft power against the backdrop of contemporary Britain. More specifically, the aim of the conference is to explore and draw together common threads and themes – individual expression and freedom, an inherent consciousness of the past and a continuing national identity and iconoclasm – and to consider their influence in the context of broader political and social developments, including Britain’s faltering relationship with the EU, the response to the financial crisis and to Scottish devolution.

Appel à contribution - Histoire
Even if human scientists and business executives like to argue otherwise, the human sciences have always been in-corporated. Without them, the modern business corporation would simply have been unimaginable, just as the production and consumption of working bodies within these corporations. ‘The Firm’ continues to frame itself as a fundamental human enterprise, in which the prominence of human ressources and human relations only continues to increase, yet the humanities of the business corporation largely remain to be written.

Call for Papers
During the contemporaneity, military conflicts often provoked junctures of rupture and transformation in pre-existing realities, whether in political, economic or social contexts, or in cultural, scientific and intellectual domains, endued, sometimes of more conservative typologies or yet of a more modernising nature. In this sense, we intend to initiate an interdisciplinary debate on the problematic of "War, University and Science", bearing in mind these multiple relationships and interdependencies, as well as the associated epistemological problematic.
