  Il s'agit donc de développer une réflexion sur l'intertextualité, la transculturalité, la polyphonie, l'identité littéraire, les registres et les techniques d'écriture, la démarcation stylistique et thématique, les espaces géographique et culturel mouvants dont elle fait référence. De la sorte, s’approprier la langue française, la "maghrébiniser", la violer, la transgresser, la bouleverser, l'innover, lui tordre le cou, condamner sa dimension impératrice, ne seraient elles pas des stratégies scripturales et des procédés langagiers travaillés au-delà des régularités linguistiques ? Cette réalité scripturale attestée par les spécialistes montre que le triptyque « langue, identité et culture » se conjuguent, s’influencent et s'entrecroisent pour enfanter une littérature incontestablement légitime et originale.

  Contemporary Religious Movements: From Africa to the Americas and Back

  The transatlantic movement of beliefs and of religious practices dates back to the earliest days of the “discovery” of the Americas. Since then, there have been over five hundred years of exchange between the two sides of the Atlantic. In many cases, religious movements brought to the New World by European and African migrants were among those persecuted by the hegemonic religious institutions as heretic or pagan. Sometimes, the crossing to the New World has brought about transformation of old belief systems, leading to the creation of so- called “syncretistic” movements, such as Haitian Voodoo, Rastafarianism, Candomblé, etc. To these, we might add the Pentecostal wave, which in recent decades has been sweeping across both Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa, transforming the religious landscapes.

  Black Portraiture(s)

  The Black Body in the West

  The city of Paris, as an international cultural hub and a Western metropolis wielding considerable influence over the notions of art and modernity, was deemed the perfect setting for Black Portraiture[s]: The Black Body in the West, the fifth in a series of conferences that have been hosted by Harvard University and NYU since 2004. Black Portraiture[s] aims to explore the various means of manufacturing and promoting self-representation, as well as the notion of exchange, from the 19th century to the present day in fashion, film, art, and archives.   How are these - positive and negative - images displayed, and how do they define, replicate, and transform representations of the Black body? How and why did the black body become a tradable commodity in the global marketplace and what gives it its legitimacy? And just as importantly, what are the responses given and their implications? Can the representation of the Black body be truly liberating both for those who are identified with its image and for its beholders? Could a deracialisation of the black body take place, thus promoting cultural reunification and fostering reappropriation as well as various forms of expression beyond the limits of race? The Black body, as imagined by the West, has always been fertile ground for observation and debate. Yet the representation and depiction of Black people has often been predicated upon prevailing attitudes on race and sexuality. The conference draws on the ideas and works of both leading and emerging writers, photographers, scholars, artists, curators and filmmakers of our time, and will address the broader issue of Africa in the popular imagination. It is also significant that this project has benefitted from the widest possible collaboration.

  Travellers and the law in North Africa in the 19th century

  A study of French - Arabic legal terminology

  Qu’ils relèvent des récits de voyage, des essais littéraires ou de la réflexion philosophique et diplomatique, de nombreux discours se sont attelés à la Loi islamique (šarī‘a) et au fonctionnement judiciaire en Afrique du Nord du XIXe siècle. Ces descriptions ont mis l’accent sur l’archaïsme et l’obscurantisme de la šarī‘a, pour légitimer la « mission civilisatrice » de la France. Paradoxalement, d’autres discours ont franchement exprimé leur admiration face à la simplicité de cette loi, son efficacité dissuasive et son coût dérisoire, comparés à la justice, lente et couteuse, pratiquée dans l’Hexagone. Ces écrits ont eu, en outre, un intérêt épistémologique puisqu’ils ont contribué à l’élaboration de nouvelles disciplines.

  Femininities and masculinities in revolution?

  Contemporary moral and ethical issues in the Middle East and Islamic worlds (2012-2013)

  Il s’agit de réfléchir aux transformations contemporaines des enjeux moraux et éthiques contemporains au Maghreb, au Moyen-Orient, dans les pays de culture musulmane et dans les communautés arabes ou musulmanes d’Europe ou d’ailleurs, à partir d’une approche en termes de subjectivités et de genre. Une approche dont l’objet est l’élaboration conjointe des féminités et des masculinités, et leurs interactions et liens au quotidien (dans le couple, les liens parentaux, au travail, dans la ville…). Ces féminités et ces masculinités sont marquées par l’histoire, les rapports sociaux, l’économie, le politique et les conflits, et sont parfois transgressives, émergentes ou alternatives. Les périodes révolutionnaires, les métamorphoses politiques en cours sont des moments forts de rupture ou les relations de genre changent, où de nouvelles manières de les envisager, d’autres mobilisations s’affirment.

  Administrative and Legal Documentation in Pre-colonial Africa and Beyond

  Fifth European Conference on African Studies (ECAS 5)

  Historians, anthropologists as well as specialists of various scholarly traditions are invited to reflect on the question of production, transmission and preservation of administrative and legal documentation in pre-colonial Africa. The aim of this panel is to foster dialogue between scholars working on non-narrative sources, whether land charters, weddings contracts, deeds, funerary inscriptions or other archival materials. Presentations of methodological issues rather than case-studies would facilitate a comparative approach leading to a renewed understanding of the social organizations that produced these documents.

  The literature of intoxication and the intoxication of literature

  L’ivresse (sukr) est un état d’exaltation psychologique et d’excitation physique dû, dans la plupart des cas, à l’absorption d’une substance enivrante, telle que le vin ou diverses autres drogues, qui entraîne un état modifié de la conscience, déclenche une attitude de désinvolture vis-à-vis de la morale commune ainsi qu’une perte momentanée de l’inhibition et de la maîtrise de soi-même (ḥilm). Les effets des enivrants ont étés souvent associés aux états d’extase et de suspension de la réalité, pendant lesquels le sujet expérimente des sensations qui n’ont pas d’égales dans la normalité et la sobriété (ṣaḥw) et il s’ouvre ainsi un espace de liberté intellectuelle et d’imagination semblable au rêve et à la folie. Or, dans l’expérience poétique, la lecture simple ou répétée de certains poèmes ou textes peut aussi provoquer un état ou une succession d’états analogues au sukr, qui finissent par  confondre une parole sur l’ivresse et souvent l’amour (‘ishq), qui en est rarement éloigné, avec l’ivresse elle-même et la réalisation de la relation amoureuse. L’objectif de ce colloque est précisément d’examiner quelques uns des aspects de l’ivresse, dans la littérature ou par la littérature, entre les périodes classique et postclassique.

  Nouveaux enjeux éthiques du médicament en Afrique de l'Ouest et du Centre

  En Afrique, les difficultés d’accès aux médicaments, persistantes pour certaines populations et certaines catégories de traitements, co-existent désormais avec la diffusion extensive de médicaments, provoquant une « pharmaceuticalisation » de la santé publique. Ces évolutions complexes soulèvent de nombreuses questions éthiques, en partie nouvelles et pour certaines exacerbées dans le contexte de ressources limitées. Ce colloque, qui s’inscrit dans une série de journées internationales de bioéthique en Afrique de l’ouest et du centre, rassemblera à Dakar en juillet 2013 des juristes, anthropologues, et professionnels de santé publique, pour éclairer ces enjeux éthiques.

  Section française de la Direction des antiquités du Soudan

  La Section française de la Direction des antiquités du Soudan (SFDAS) propose une Aide à la mobilité internationale (AMI) destinée à soutenir la recherche en archéologie soudanaise. Par « archéologie soudanaise », on entend les disciplines concernant l’Antiquité du Nil moyen : Préhistoire, Kerma, archéologie pharaonique, royaumes napatéen et méroïtique, post-méroïtique, royaumes chrétiens, etc. Les candidats doivent être de nationalité française ou d’un des États de l’Union européenne, titulaires d’un master deuxième année (ou de DEA) et être inscrit en thèse dans un établissement en France. Cette aide à la mobilité d’un montant mensuel de 1 400 (mille quatre cent) euros net, inclut un aller retour Paris-Khartoum sur la base du prix d’une classe économique et une couverture médicale. Elle prendra effet à la rentrée 2013 pour une durée de neuf mois.

  Globalisation and Minor Cultural Groups

  The role of so-called minority people in rethinking the future of modern societies

  Minority groups, whose way of life has historically suffered from globalization, are often cited as victims of global processes, but they are rarely studied for the techniques or technologies of accommodation and resistance they have implemented as a response to global processes— the most devastating of these processes being colonization in its various aspects. Indeed, globalist literature does not yet offer a conceptualization or theorizing of the social, cultural, political and territorial continuity of “minorized” cultures, let alone does it afford enough analytical space to these so-called cultural minorities in the process of questioning the values and practices of globalization. Therefore, this conference will participate in building more connections between different experiences  in order to think up the best alternatives to the global economic and political system in place and to the way of life brought about by global phenomena which do not work anymore.

  Appel à articles pour le numéro thématique « La formation dans tous ses états dans les pays du Maghreb » pour la revue Esprit critique. L’objet de cet appel à articles est de faire le point sur les acquis en matière de formation dans les trois pays du Maghreb central ; d’identifier les ressources et les contraintes quant à la consolidation des systèmes éducatifs efficients ; et de faire toute sa part à la formation des jeunes et des femmes. C’est à coup sûr le critère pertinent dans la perspective de l’avènement d’une société salariale « protectrice ». Les propositions pourront porter sur des situations prises dans l’un ou l’autre pays. Des analyses comparatives sont fortement souhaitées.
