  Report from the Pop Line: on the life and afterlife of popular

  At the end of the first decade of the twenty-first century, popular culture finds itself at a crossroads: has the concept been drained of its meaning because of its overwhelming popularity? After the euphoria around the popular, what afterlife can be expected from it? Should we still be discussing the popular as opposed to high and folk culture? And where and how do pop art forms intersect with the current notion of the popular? This conference wishes to address the complexities surrounding the debate around the notions of both pop and the popular and discuss the possibilities of their afterlife.

  Psychotic Experiences, Religion, and Spirituality

  This conference is centered on reported or observed psychotic experiences and discusses the ways in which religious and spiritual idioms are mobilized by patients, as well as by medical and psychological practitioners and religious healers in their therapeutic relations. Overall, the conference covers a significant variety of social, institutional and cultural contexts. As an expected result, we should be able to better understand the ways in which culture and social institutions contribute to the shaping of individual psychotic experience, and how they create dynamics of integration and exclusion. In addition, by inviting social scientists and medical practitioners to confront their perspectives, we would like to question what appears to be the underlying constructivist stance on many recent perspectives on religious experience and spirituality linked to psychotic states.

  The purpose of this multidisciplinary and international symposium is to give scholars from various backgrounds and geographical areas working on the topic of heritage and museums an opportunity to meet. We propose to regard them both as part of one and the same process referred to as patrimonialization that transform places, people, « traditions », and artefacts into heritage to be protected, exhibited, and highlighted. We welcome contributions that address this multifaceted process and focus on one of its aspects : objects, arenas, sites and paradigms.

  Music and counterculture(s). Rock'n'Roll, the Sixties, the U.S. and beyond

  Ce numéro de Volume ! La revue des musiques populaires s’intéressera, par le détour de la musique, aux contre-cultures des années 1960 et au-dela – à ce mouvement hétérogène, son identité éclatée, sa circulation planétaire, ses origines, son influence et ses héritages. Nous invitons ainsi les chercheurs à étudier le phénomène de « la contre-culture » musicale mais aussi à en interroger la définition esthétique, culturelle, politique, historique et chronologique : que fut la contre-culture, et comment la musique l’a cimentée ? qu’est-ce qui l’identifie non seulement spécifiquement dans les années 1960-1970, mais aussi plus généralement au-delà : ses caractéristiques « formelles » (caractéristiques musicales, styles), son idéologie (militantisme, modes de vie) ou ce à quoi elle s’oppose (le système, les « valeurs américaines traditionnelles », la guerre, le capitalisme) ?

  Estuarine and Lagoon Ecosystem Trajectories

  Throughout the world, estuaries and lagoons are among the most intensely modified and threatened aquatic ecosystems. Moreover, these systems are vulnerable to the consequences of global change. From a management point of view, there is a tremendous and concrete lack of knowledge regarding the functioning of estuarine ecosystems and the socio-economic relations that bind the various actors to these environments. This ECSA symposium will contribute to provide sound science on past and future estuarine and lagoon ecosystem evolution from ecological, social and political point of view. All example of medium and long terms surveys, describing how the ecosystem and socio-ecosystem is evolving are welcome.

  Au XVIIIe siècle, la sphère publique émergente, composée de lieux comme les académies, les salons littéraires ou bien les loges maçonniques, a constitué la scène sur laquelle s'est jouée la sociabilité. La publication de Thomas Crow, Painters and Public Life in Eighteenth-Century Paris, a incité les historiens de l’art à comprendre le rôle des artistes dans la sphère publique. Ce colloque a pour but d’analyser la sociabilité dans le monde artistique du XVIIIe siècle à travers le prisme des pratiques sociales. Le colloque aura lieu à l’I. N. H. A., à Paris, les 23-24-25 juin 2011 et sera ouvert aux différentes disciplines issues des sciences humaines : histoire de l’art, histoire, anthropologie, philosophie, littérature et sociologie puisqu’il s’agit de confronter les différentes approches de ces disciplines pour traiter notre sujet et explorer les relations qu’elles entretiennent les unes avec les autres.
