Teaching and learning languages in the shadow of lingua franca
A new lingua franca influences policies, teaching methods and learning processes in all languages. This conference aims to define current state, map dynamic changes and address new challenges in plurilingual teaching and learning in higher education. Together, we are going to look for, and hopefully find, ways that will help teachers enrich their teaching repertoires and learners their learning techniques effectively.

Since Metaphors We Live By by Lakoff and Johnson was published [1980], studies adopting a cognitive approach to metaphor have proliferated and it is now generally acknowledged that metaphors have a cognitive function; they not only structure our language and discourse, but also our thought system, as they allow us to conceptualize a target domain thanks to a source domain. Cognitive linguistics, however, was frequently criticized for not considering the ornamental and rhetorical functions of metaphor. Other approaches were thus developed to take these functions into account, including Critical Metaphor Theory (Charteris-Black [2004]), which largely relies on Critical Discourse Analysis. Nevertheless, Charteris-Black based his studies on large corpora of political, religious, or journalistic texts and found that metaphor, because of its cognitive and affective appeal, remained the ultimate rhetorical tool in some genres.

Telecollaboration in Higher Education in Language Classes
Teaching Practices, Linguistic Challenges and Cultural Horizons
If telecollaboration is practiced at all levels of education, we would like to give it a broader dimension, as part of our colloquium, and to address it at the university level for the essential reason that the nature of event organized within this university, aspires to bring together colleagues around the world, around this theme, little known or practiced at the level of Algerian universities, while it has been the subject of experiments since over thirty years in Europe, America, Asia, and other countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Language contact and translation in religious context
Comparative approaches
This conference brings together anthropologists and linguists working on conversion, cultural transmission and translation theory, as well as on various case studies, whose geography comprises Oceania, Amazonia, Yucatan, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East, Europe, Alaska and Chukotka (Russia), and whose temporal frame spreads from the Hellenistic era to the Spanish colonization of the Americas and to the present time. The main questions of the conference are the modalities of the ethnolinguistic encounter and translation accompanying religious conversion, whether, and how, the language gets altered as a result of these processes, and what are the broader cognitive and sociocultural consequences that accompany the linguistic transformation.

Christianity, language contact, language change
The present workshop addresses questions of language contact and language change, as well as language standardization in the Christian context both in Europe and in the New World (Americas, Africa) through a study of diachronic and synchronic corpora. Special attention is paid, on the one hand, to the role of translation as a sight of language contact, and on the other hand, to register variation as an indicator of differential propagation of innovations appeared in Christian context.

Instances of power and cultural discourse
Intercultural exchange in the age of globalization, second edition
In the context of today’s social, political and economic changes, power is one of the governing principles of culture. Power comes in many shapes and sizes and it manifests itself under various forms: it can be tyrannical or a combination of forces (Foucault); it can be charismatic, traditional and rational (Weber) or the opposite – manipulative; it can also appear as a system of diluted forces that spring from the “social field” (Bourdieu); it can remain in the unconscious or it can manifest itself in the speech act. However it may appear, it has become clear that power shapes the course of the creation, interpretation and analysis of literary texts and other cultural products.
