  Processos de memória política: Roménia e Portugal em diálogo

  Os regimes ditatoriais aprisionam, raptam, espiam, torturam e matam. Os crimes praticados pelos regimes totalitários são dos mais diversos; das formas leves de coerção - restrições à liberdade de movimento e expressão, expropriação, negação de serviços públicos - até genocídio. Tais abusos dão origem ao ódio moral, ao ressentimento e à indignação para com os agressores, e destes em relação aos testemunhos e às vítimas. Uma vez os regimes autoritários chegados ao fim, as instituições são confrontadas com o legado duma história recente de medo e opressão e com uma série de perguntas cruciais. Este passado deveria receber uma voz ou deveria ser silenciado? A raiva das vítimas deveria ser contada ou suprimida? As contas com o passado devem permanecer fechadas para manter a paz ou devem ser acertadas para fazer justiça?

  La vitesse de la conception et la mise en place des écoquartiers est aujourd’hui sans précédant ! Le développement durable trouve enfin son application opérationnelle idéale sur l’espace. Les thématiques et les options sont variées et extrêmement intéressantes : modes de déplacement alternatifs, circulation bien limitée des voitures privées, bâtiments basse consommation, ou bâtiments à énergie zéro ou positive, utilisation des eaux pluviales, matériaux écologiques, mixité sociale et urbaine, combinaison avec le logement social, promotion de modes de vie durables en général... Les écoquartiers sont partout de projets urbains exemplaires, promus par leurs communautés en tant que « vitrines» de savoir-faire technique et d’action durable, mais aussi en tant qu'outils de communication tant au niveau national que international.

  Convivialidade e super-diversidade a nível local

  Our principal aim is to describe, analyze and compare new super-diverse convivial contexts, as they relate to the process of migrations shaping new cultural realms. Our approach does not involve the idealization of harmonic intercultural relations but considers convivial contexts as new fields of intercultural tensions and interactions as an attempt to understand their dynamics and the social, historic and personal factors that lead to willingness to coexist with ethnic heterogeneity or to reject it. Consequently, it envisions applying an innovative framework to understanding intercultural relations among national and migrant populations. From the perspective of social topography, the new convivial cultures are not associated with a specific geographic space. They correspond to different public contexts in which people with links to various ethnic or cultural groups interact.

O ENEC se propõe a estimular o debate sobre o consumo como um fenômeno que já pode ser considerado um campo científico consolidado em diversos países. Juntos, os dois eventos têm por tema a reflexão sobre a “Vida sustentável: práticas cotidianas de consumo”. Os eventos decorrerão na Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing, no Rio de Janeiro (Brasil).

  The aim of the COST Action IS1007 Symposium is to give an overview of the policy contextwhere culture meets sustainable development, and of the strategies and processes whichguide culturally sustainable development at local, regional, national and transnational levels.Moreover, during the Symposium the participants will identify and establish “thematicclusters” on various topics of cultural sustainability, which will serve as forums for futurecollaborative work. The goal of the COST Action "Investigating Cultural Sustainability" is to increase understanding of and determine the role of culture in sustainable development based on multidisciplinary principles and approaches.

  Histoire rurale vs histoire environnementale ? (Moyen Âge – époque moderne)

  L’université de Toulouse 2 – Le Mirail et le CNRS organisent, avec le soutien de l’European Society for Environmental History (ESEH), l’Association des Journées Internationales d’Histoire de l’Abbaye de Flaran et le FRAMESPA (UMR 5136), une première école d’été d’histoire rurale. Cette manifestation scientifique se déroulera sous le patronage de l’European Society for Environmental History (ESEH).L’école d’été accueillera des chercheurs, enseignants-chercheurs, doctorants et post-doctorants, français et étrangers, travaillant sur les sociétés rurales et l’histoire environnementale de l’époque médiévale et moderne. L’organisation prendra en charge l’essentiel des frais de déplacement et l’intégralité du séjour. Des places sont disponibles pour les jeunes chercheurs. Les dossiers doivent être envoyés avant le 28 mai 2012.

  Debates sobre os discursos e práticas académicos e políticos

  The main objective of this international workshop is to promote a debate that engages both with current issues on knowledge/history production and with contemporary discourses/policies on immigration and ‘integration’, taking their intersection as crucial to unravel the relations between the constant (re)making of nation boundaries and ideas of political belonging. We propose that a breakthrough approach requires the challenging of a Eurocentric paradigm, now hegemonic, that is preventing a thorough debate on racism as being embedded on the history of modern science, capitalism, liberal democracies and the state of law.

  Rwanda : génocide et reconstruction des champs du savoir

  Explorer le génocide des Tutsi au Rwanda

  Organized in Rwanda by the Interdisciplinary Genocide Studies Center. The Interdisciplinary Genocide Studies Center based in Kigali, Rwanda continues their two/three-week US/Rwanda exchange program in order to deepen students’, researchers’, and artists’ knowledge of the Rwandan genocide. In the last years, the program started in 2004 has enabled teachers and students from Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Burkina Faso, Afghanistan, Singapore, Mexico, UK, France, Belgium, Spain, and the USA to develop narratives that engage questions of social justice, conflict resolution, and peace building. The program has involved theater artists, filmmakers, academicians, researches, and students from various disciplines and countries, whose practice engages questions of peace building.

  Moving Boundaries in Mobilities Research

  This conference, funded by the University of Cagliari and organized in collaboration with the Cosmobilities network, aims at discussing new directions in mobilities research, showcasing the state of the art in the field, and providing a unique opportunity to create lasting links among researchers, especially in the north and the south of Europe. The language of this event will be English but the range of papers presented will be a reflection of the diversity of concerns, approaches and methodologies informing mobilities research in Europe and beyond. Young and experienced researchers are invited to submit abstracts for paper presentations. High quality abstracts on any aspect of mobilities are welcomed.

  Rails and urban development. A Comparative Approach between France and the United Kingdom

  In France as in the United Kingdom, the issue of sustainable development along with preoccupations about energy costs are leading developers and urban planners to put rail transport at the centre of their concerns. Despite this similar context and though development in both countries has in general been strongly linked to rail, the relationships between urban development and rail transport seem to be quite different. France has seen a strong development of its tram networks since the beginning of the 1980s, whereas in Britain the revival of light rail systems has been more modest. On the other hand, the emergence of urban ‘railway star’ networks to service the peripheries of large cities has been more pronounced in Britain. Yet the role of major transport projects is a crucial issue in both countries in the metropolitan strategies of large urban areas like London and Paris.To comparatively explore the issue of railway transport and urban development the universities of Paris 1 Sorbonne and Liverpool are organising two linked seminars. The first of these will take place in Paris in May 2012, and consider the (re)development of LRT and tramway systems. The second seminar will be held in Liverpool in Autumn 2012 and address the issue of links between territorial development and railways.

  Politiques énergétiques métropolitaines : le cas des villes turques

  Call for paper for a Seminar at the French Institute of Anatolian Studies (IFEA), co-organized by Eric Verdeil (Jean Moulin University in Lyon - UMR Environment City Corporation) and Jean-François Pérouse (Galatasaray University and IFEA). The report Energy and Urban Innovation (2010) by the World Energy Council underlines the fundamental role of cities in the energy transition and the interlocking of several series of actions, related to technology, economy and policy. It appears that the political and social practices are a major issue and justify an increased contribution of social sciences to the analysis of the implementation of these new policies. The seminar intends to address these issues in the case of large Turkish cities.

  Governing mobilities

  Cosmobilities conference 2012

  The Lausanne Cosmobilities Conference focuses on the question of which systems of governance are involved in these processes and how they are evolving as a result of these trends at a time when the future looks less and less like the past. In contrast to mainstream scientific literature and studies on transport and mobility dominated by works on travel and commuting, in this conference we propose to examine the governance of individual and collective actors’ mobility projects. In modern societies, where discourses lauding spatial and social mobility seem prevalent, this conference aims to understand critically how public policies consider the coexistence of different types of mobility projects, and inequalities linked to this diversity.
