  Contemporary Muslim Travel Cultures: Practices, complexities and emerging issues

  We seek contributions that will help provide a more comprehensive account of Muslim travel cultures and provide a greater understanding of the current debates associated with Muslim leisure behavior while travelling in the context of businesses, communities, destinations, and the wider socio-political context. Contributions are therefore invited for theoretically and empirically informed chapters on contemporary Muslim tourism cultures and the consumption practices of Muslims while travelling. Both qualitative and quantitative methods are warmly welcomed but the application of methods must be rigorous.

  Colonisations, revolutions, and reinventions in early America and the Atlantic World 1600-1848

  8th biannual conference of the European Early American Studies Association

  This call for papers invites established scholars, post-doctoral students and graduate students to re-examine the fundamental concept of Atlantic history in light of current research on the themes of colonisations, revolutions, and reinventions, from 1600 to 1848. It is also an opportunity to examine the history of transformations in early America and, broadly, the early modern world, by taking fuller account of scholarship on the politics of primitive globalisation. We will focus on the empires that organised European settlements in disrupting and dislocating native peoples, prompting indigenous cultures to re-invent themselves; but we will  also be attentive to the processes that led to the formation of new Euro-American societies in the Americas, often shaped by the enslavement of Africans and other forms of unfree labor. In the North-American colonies, the West Indies, India, Latin America, and Africa, entire peoples and their lands were reinvented by trading companies, individual administrators, theoreticians and executors of empires, as well as by those rare voices, many of who were abolitionists, who developed a critical approach to European expansion abroad.

Celui-ci sera consacré à la « sémantique lexicale diachronique ». Ce sujet inclut bien évidemment les questions lexico-grammaticales et l’interface lexique- grammaire (questions de grammaticalisation et de lexicalisation des formes).

  How is the materiality of the visible world inscribed in its cultural representations? What are the more or less visible actors and mechanisms in the genesis of a cultural artefact? Should the visible / invisible binomial be considered as an anthropological constant or as the effect of a certain epistemological constellation? To what extent does visibility coincide with power and, therefore, how should one represent the in/visible? These are just some of the questions that cultural studies, in their innate interdisciplinarity and methodological heterogeneity can formulate with respect to the issue.

  The New Shape of Sharing: Networks, Expertise, Information continues conversations begun at the New Directions Symposium held in Frankfurt in 2017. This multi-day forum of panel presentations, a poster session, and interactive breakout sessions on key issues facing Western European collections and public services will encourage both structured and unstructured debate. We will advance our understanding of the challenges and initiate action in three areas: design new models for collaborative collection development and services; explore a growing range of content and format types and what they mean for libraries and researchers, and highlight the evolving role of libraries and librarians in the research process.

  Ce numéro de la revue Éthique en éducation et en formation examinera les questions de formation des enseignants en lien avec les politiques nationales (neutralité, laïcité, multiculturalisme...), mais il pourrait aussi inclure des textes sur la formation à l'éducation au vivre-ensemble, de manière plus large, par exemple, la formation des enseignants au dialogue, au règlement de conflits, etc., ou encore à travers différentes disciplines. Dit autrement, ce numéro ne se limitera pas aux orientations politiques des différentes régions étudiées.

  Management en pleine mutation : des paradoxes, de l’incertitude et des impératifs d’excellence

  Le comité scientifique de la deuxième édition du colloque international MIE 2019 invite les chercheurs et praticiens à soumettre leurs recherches s’insérant dans la thématique suivante : « Management en pleine mutation : Des paradoxes, de l’incertitude et des impératifs d’excellence ». Nous souhaiterions recevoir des contributions théoriques et empiriques qui traitent de la complexité de l’environnement d’aujourd’hui et des paradoxes auxquels est confronté le manager. Zhan et Han (à paraître) avancent que « les paradoxes sont des catalyseurs fondamentaux pour l’évolution organisationnelle ». L’environnement est de plus en plus incertain et ambigu, il véhicule beaucoup de contradictions et met le manager devant une multitude de paradoxes. Nous visons, à travers cette conférence, à mieux comprendre les interconnexions et les impératifs auxquels doit répondre le manager d’aujourd’hui.

  Les intérieurs d’époque Art nouveau : analyser, restaurer, rendre accessible

  Le Réseau Art nouveau Network, réseau européen d’étude, protection et valorisation du patrimoine Art nouveau, fête cette année ses 20 ans. Urban.brussels, membre fondateur du RANN, accueille à cette occasion un colloque international à Bruxelles, co-organisé par le RANN et urban.brussels, en partenariat avec le musée Horta et le CIVA. La recherche et le progrès de nos connaissances relatives à l’Art nouveau ont toujours été un des objectifs premiers du RANN. Si l’Art nouveau est accessible à tout un chacun dans la rue même ; si les façades Art nouveau sont l’ornement de bien des villes européennes, les intérieurs suscitent, tant du monde académique que du grand public, nombre de questions liées à leur accessibilité, à leur connaissance et aux restaurations affinées qu’ils nécessitent. Ce sujet des intérieurs n’a pas encore été exploité scientifiquement de manière transversale en Europe ; ce colloque a pour objectif de susciter une confrontation sur les pratiques de recherche, la compréhension, la conservation et la mise en valeur des intérieurs Art nouveau, afin d’identifier de nouvelles perspectives de recherches.

  Violence and film

  The Philosophical Journal of Conflict and Violence is seeking articles dealing with philosophical issues that arise in connection with the depiction of violence in film and television. Violence, real or threatened, drives the plots of many, if not most, of the narratives we watch on the screen. Detectives solve grisly murders, victims seek revenge, teenagers flee slashers, gangsters spray bullets, Kungfu fighters trade punches, and armies clash on the battlefield (or in outer space). While almost everyone claims to wants to reduce the levels of violence in society, movie audiences regularly get an enormous kick out of watching on the screen what we abhor in real life. But not all cinematic violence is meant to titillate. Often the aim is to bring audiences closer to the sickening reality of the mistreatment and abuse suffered by those whose plights might otherwise remain invisible to us. While many worry that exposure to cinematic violence may desensitize us, perhaps it can also serve to awaken our empathy.

  The Global as Method: Ethnographic Scales in the 21st century

  This panel addresses the old question of power relationships in knowledge production in a time of increased academic competition, which leads to a greater uniformity of anthropological thinking. It thus aims to be a forum to exchange on the possibilities to develop different ethnographies from “global margins” – such as indigenous methodologies, subaltern voices, feminist epistemologies as well as precarious non-tenured scholars – and in a way that would matter for anthropology in a whole.

  Blasphemy and Violence. Interdependencies since 1760

  Liberas (Ghent, Belgium) in conjunction with the School of History, Religion and Philosophy at Oxford Brookes University (Oxford, United Kingdom) and the Leibniz Institute of European History (Mainz, Germany) announce a Call for Papers for a conference and subsequent edited volume on the subject of blasphemy and violence since 1760. Contributions are invited for a conference to be held at Liberas in Ghent. Papers delivered at this conference will be expected to be nearing completion with a view to subsequent publication in the second volume of ‘New Perspectives on the History of Liberalism and Freethought’ in early 2021, a new peer-reviewed open access series published by De Gruyter Oldenbourg.
