Originally created to report on the activities, publications, and contributions of the Ente Raccolta Vinciana, the journal has evolved into a globally recognized specialist publication on Leonardo da Vinci. This call for papers invites original contributions on topics related to Leonardo’s life, work, and legacy in museums and galleries, or through in-site and online exhibitions.

English for Specific Purposes in Action: Bridging the Gap between University and the Socio-economic Sector

English is the most widely used language for international communication, known as the "lingua franca par excellence". It is in high demand in education, business, and tourism, leading countries like Algeria to adopt it. English for Specific Purposes (ESP) tailors content to specific fields, equipping learners with necessary language skills. Algeria is integrating English into education, especially higher education, but lacks uniformity in ESP across disciplines. The absence of ESP teacher training programs in Algeria complicates the issue. Efforts are needed to improve ESP teaching and learning. The government has implemented an English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) policy in higher education to increase global reach and produce qualified professionals. Success depends on qualified ESP practitioners and research for high-quality courses. This international event promotes collaboration to enhance ESP teaching practices and meet international standards.

Les mondes de la neutralité prémoderne (1400-1800) : institutions, normes et pratiques

Ce symposium vise à apporter de nouvelles perspectives à l’étude de la longue durée du concept de neutralité, en se concentrant sur sa dimension « pré-moderne » au sens large (vers 1400-1800). En effet, le droit de la neutralité a commencé à émerger au début de l'époque moderne à travers les pratiques et les croyances du système étatique européen, mais aussi à partir de ses interactions avec des systèmes normatifs et culturels non européens. Des angles d'approche différents mais complémentaires peuvent être utilisés pour comprendre ce phénomène : par exemple, l'histoire diplomatique, l'histoire des relations internationales, l'histoire politique, l'histoire économique et l'histoire du droit. Tout au long de l'histoire, les politiques ainsi que les acteurs privés ont interprété la neutralité de manière flexible et divergente, proposant parfois une approche proactive-affirmative ou une approche plus passive. énéficiant de perspectives disciplinaires multiples, le symposium prend en considération à la fois la théorie et la pratique de la neutralité, faisant progresser notre connaissance de la conceptualisation souvent contestée des régimes juridiques en mer comme sur terre. Une telle conceptualisation dépend de l'interaction entre les situations de paix et de guerre, divergeant à travers différentes coordonnées temporelles et spatiales.

Au cours de la dernière décennie, le concept de décolonisation a circulé non seulement dans les cercles académiques, mais aussi dans l’arène politique et l’activisme dans le Nord-Ouest mondial. Dans quelle mesure les efforts de décolonisation sont-ils porteurs d’un potentiel de justice alimentaire et de quelle manière les diasporas africaines se préoccupent-elles de la décolonisation des systèmes alimentaires et participent-elles aux efforts visant à rendre leurs produits alimentaires plus accessibles ? Ce dossier cherche à explorer les aspects socioculturels, économiques et politiques des habitudes alimentaires des diasporas africaines. L’accent est mis sur les dynamiques et les jeux de pouvoir qui façonnent les systèmes alimentaires africains actuels et sur la manière dont les diasporas africaines se connectent à leurs traditions alimentaires et s’y engagent.

Generations and Generational Time in the United States During the Long Nineteenth Century

This conference will take place at Lille University, June 12-13, 2025, and will explore generations, generational thinking, and generational time in the United States during the long nineteenth century. In the wake of the Revolution the very idea of generations meant freedom from the parent country, and the possibility of taking turns to shape the nation. But generationality also implies a linear experience of time and logics of transmission which are not available to many oppressed groups, in the context of slavery in particular. Our goal is to provide an opportunity to investigate modes of relationality, kinship, or fellow-feeling throughout the nineteenth century while questioning and complicating the "generational model." We welcome contributions on the literature, the culture and the history of the United States in the long nineteenth century.

The Press and the Holocaust

Public opinion and the press (taken in a broad sense to include newspapers, radio broadcasts, pamphlets, leaflets, etc.) became major actors of the world since WWI. Their significance can hardly be underestimated. After the first British and American research on the subject, in the late 1960s, and a couple of other scattered case studies that were published from the 1980s on, it was only recently (2023) that a Guide to Holocaust sources finally included a chapter on “Contemporary Newspapers as Sources for Approaching Holocaust Study.”This conference aims to contribute to a more comprehensive and all-encompassing understanding of the Holocaust by discussing how the European press covered nazi anti-Semitism and the Holocaust from a comparative historical perspective.

De la parole au corps du monde. Lorand Gaspar à la croisée des langues, des cultures et des disciplines

Lauréat des très prestigieux prix Guillaume Apollinaire (1967) et Goncourt de la poésie (1998), Lorand Gaspar, poète, traducteur, historien, photographe mais aussi remarquable médecin chirurgien, voit le jour le 28 février 1925. Située au confluent des cultures et des disciplines, l’œuvre de cet écrivain francophone aux origines transylvaines a déjà suscité l’intérêt de nombreux chercheurs et plusieurs travaux universitaires lui ont été consacrés, dont une partie importante s’est constituée par le biais des nombreuses traductions réalisées à partir de et par Gaspar lui-même. Nous proposons aux personnes intéressées (spécialistes de l’auteur, critiques historiens, poètes, traducteurs, médecins, etc.) un colloque qui aura lieu dans sa ville d’origine : Târgu-Mureş.

Eastern European Musical Culture – Past and Present

“Musicologica Olomucensia” Journal

For our current issue of Musicologica Olomucensia we are looking for articles focusing on diverse aspects of Eastern European musical culture (defined by the territory of post-communist European states). We welcome historical probes into the musical culture of the region as well as interdisciplinary reflections on contemporary phenomena, with overlaps into music sociology, cultural studies, popular music studies, ethnomusicology, and topics such as music and politics, music and national identity, or music and gender. We welcome a comprehensive approach that compares the issues of individual states in the region and places them on the West-East axis. Likewise, we favour a wide range of issues related to Czech (Czechoslovak) musical culture.

The Sun, “mother” star of the solar system around which various bodies, including the Earth, revolve, whose fusion core produces energy and releases electromagnetic radiation, a flow of particles and neutrinos. In 2024, a surge of this radiation caused a storm capable of disrupting electrical grid transmissions on Earth. Located in the Orion Arm, the Sun not only significantly influences the climate on Earth, but is also the protagonist of recurring cosmogonic visions – from the ancient Egyptians, to pre-Columbian civilizations, to Tommaso Campanella’s City of the Sun – that place it at the center of religious and political systems as a source of irradiation and emanation (of life, power, knowledge). Studied and venerated, it has inspired various architectural works and projects that dedicate spaces and territories to it, such as the megalithic monuments built with consideration to its position during the summer solstice, or the Temple of Kukulkan in Mexico, designed to project snake-shaped shadows during the equinoxes.

The main ambition of this call is to examine the strategies mobilized by Chinese cultural actors and to question the role of digital platforms in the attempt to create a cultural contraflow that could gain worldwide recognition. What are the specificities of the Chinese cultural industries and to what extent can they provide an alternative to the contemporary globalized cultural landscape? How do musicians, directors, content producers or game developers navigate their commodified and supervised environment domestically and strengthen their chances of success abroad? To what extent do Chinese cultural platforms take part in the broadcast and the recognition of Chinese popular culture(s) beyond the country’s borders, be it in the West or in other nations of the Global South?

Europe-based researchers have a long tradition of Southeast Asian archaeological scholarship. A great deal has changed since our community last met in 2017 at EurASEAA in Poznan, Poland—both in Europe and in Southeast Asia, in academic and political spheres, and with global cultural shifts. We believe that it is essential that our community continues to meet to promote scientific exchanges and discuss thematic developments and prospects for the discipline and students. The 8th and morning of the 9th will be devoted to presentations of current research projects.

By striding outits multiple dimensions of time and space, both physical and imaginary, scholars from the sinographic sphere with diverse disciplinary backgrounds will attempt to chart together the Epiverse. The experimental format of this conference aims at facilitating present and future collaborations in thefield, and defining common research paths on stone inscriptions and inscribed landscapes.

Bringing Art Nouveau heritage back to life: theory and practice in restoration

From the Venice Charter to the Turin Declaration

The Réseau Art Nouveau Network is an European network for the study, protection and promotion of Art Nouveau heritage. 2024 also mark the 30^th anniversary of the publication of the UNESCO Declaration of Turin, which established the guidelines for the practice and theory of restoring this heritage, infull respect of its material specificities. The punctuality of the analysis underpinning this declaration has not preserved it from oblivion. Having recalled the main assumptions of the Venice Charter, we would like to understand why 30 years after its publication the need was felt to draw up a code of intervention specifically dedicated to Art Nouveau. We would also like the conference to be an opportunity to clarify, through concrete examples, the critical fortune of the two UNESCO documents, aware that their implementation in Europe is not always systematic.

The twenty-third Art History Seminar of the Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage (KIK-IRPA) is organised in collaboration with the research project AGENART at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM). It will highlighting various fascinating aspects of the artistic patronage of the remarkable woman who was the Archduchess Isabella, who lived in Madrid and Brussels between 1566 and 1633. This conference will address for the first time Isabel’s artistic and cultural agency, by analysing works of art and architecture commissioned, promoted and collected by her in different media during her youth in Madrid and her married life and widowhood in Brussels.
