    Translating Flamenco Song

The EHIC laboratory (Human Spaces and Cultural Interaction, EA 1087) of the University of Limoges in France is organizing a study day and a workshop on the translation of flamenco song. This research takes its starting point from the observation of a lack and a need: translating flamenco through a combination of scientific rigor, poetic character and singability. It is indeed paradoxical that translations up until today have been exclusively written, whereas flamenco is fundamentally oral. The event will revolve around two complementary approaches: one scientific, the other artistic. It will involve both exposing and commenting on translations, and trying to put them into song and / or music.

Latin-American telenovelas - hermeneutic and intercultural approaches

    Volume 2

"Literary Brazil" viewed from abroad - transnational perspectives (1822 to the present day)

    Women of the Americas

The recognition of women’s place in American societies has become a crucial social, cultural, political and economic issue, as evidenced by worldwide protest movements such as Ni Una Menos that started in Argentina – a feminist movement fighting against feminicides and gender-based violence – or the Women’s March against President Donald Trump in the United States. Whether these protests have to do with the struggle for women’s right to vote, the sexual revolution that started in the 1960s, or social movements denouncing gender-based violence in urban and rural environments, they highlight a continuity between yesterday’s feminist fights and their re-adaptation in the public space.

Identity, memory and artistic representations in construction - Columbia 2017

    Colombie 2017

    The Predatory Museum

39th annual International Committee for Museology (ICOFOM) symposium

Have visitors ever wondered how museums acquire the wonderful things they present to the enquiring public? It is certain that some do, but how many would see the museum as a predator?  Would they ever recognize the museum activity of acquiring the valued collections that are put on display as the result of a predatory undertaking? It is true that museums are discerning but eager recipients of gifts offered by individuals who cross their threshold and who are willing to donate or bequeath their treasured possessions to their local museum. These ongoing acts of charity aside, museums have other avenues of collection-building which they explore and have done so since their inception.

    Art, networks, trajectories

Sociologists of art recognize the importance of networks concerning art whether it be the production / creation, the diffusion or even the consumption / reception of artworks. On the other hand, social network analysis scholars have studied from sociability to markets, access to resources, relational inequalities, the diffusion of innovations, scientific production... but little attention has been given to artistic activities. A special issue on "Art and networks" has been released in Spanish in the journal REDES and in French in the review Sociologie de l'Art on this joint topic. The works presented in them concern the artistic domain and use the methods of social network analysis. The workshop proposed has the intention to pursue the crossed fertilization between these two fields of research.

The creation, experimentation and spread of Spanish and Latin-American contemporary theatre

40 years of democracy (ies): progresses, contradictions and prospects

    VIII Portuguese Sociological Congress

Portuguese singularity presents today new communication bridges in comparison to other territorial realities, offering itself as a rare laboratory of sociological analysis. Regression phenomenon’s (both structural and dispositional) of articulation of social change’s asynchronous rhythms, of risk proliferation and uncertainty, conflictive conciliation of multiple modernities, within an unfinished one, challenge us to look sociologically at these last 40 years and also to think prospectively on tendencies and future challenges.

    First International Symposium on Primitivism

The First International Symposium on Primitivism aims to shed new light on a debate that has been given little attention in the field of Humanities, and which focuses on the relationship between Art and the Primitive. The disciplinary foundation of these studies is in History and Art Theory. However, it is also necessarily interdisciplinary, to the extent that we are interested in understanding the aesthetic phenomena that constitute Western art, not only from the perspective of an artistic history, but also – and especially – from its imbrications with aesthetics, culture, society, and politics.

    The ruin

Sociétés journal devotes its next issue to the subject of “the ruin”. This issue aims to revisit and extend the notion of ruin considering its spatial, social, architectural, and urban imaginary. A Ruin is a representation and a pictorial resource of the landscape, is a metaphysical way of thought, a purpose and a primitive view. In this sense, memory, architecture and symbol, life and death, decay and rebirth, time and duration, rust and bones, the eternal communication, previous utopia and inner experience, the decomposition and recomposition, ecosophy and economics of conflict, obsolescence and "affordance", are some of the subjects that derive from ruin as status quo: an 'imaginal' foundation of the romanticism and a sensitivity of our contemporaneous world.
