    Atmospheres in Film

    Revue « Ambiances »

    Reconciling art and craftsmanship

The conference examines the relationship that binds craftsmanship to the artistic field, through experiences examined in different countries, and asks the following questions: Is it imperative to set up an integrated training program for craftsmen across the whole Republic of Tunisia? Are the measures dedicated to the use of crafts as a privileged tool of the “anti-unemployment policy” sufficient? What is the responsibility of higher institutes of fine arts and crafts in Tunisia in promoting the sector? Designers and visual artists, will participate with their theoretical-practical projects, individual or collective, dedicated to this relationship between art and craftsmanship, to furnish an exhibition of arts and crafts objects, which will be organized in Tozeur in parallel with the conference.

The Myth of Pentecost: literature, translation, theory, arts

While there are countless studies devoted to the readings, representations and interpretations of the biblical myth of the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9), the rival narrative of the “miracle” of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4) and its reception have received much less attention. This applies both to the exegesis of the Bible text and to its various adaptations in literature, art, theory and translate on studies. While the myth of Babel has generally given rise to pessimistic conceptions of linguistic diversity, the episode of the “tongues of fire” descending on the Apostles, transforming them into universal translators-interpreters, capable of speaking and being heard in languages they have not learned, suggests a different vision of multilingualism, language, meaning, or translatability.

    Act for better sustainable cities

Thinking cityness from East African cities

    “EchoGeo” – N° 67 (january-march 2024)

This issue of EchoGeo seeks to explore East Africa’s contribution to the debate on cityness and city life in urban studies. This contribution has been growing over the past ten years, reflecting the accelerated urbanization of this part of the continent. Despite heterogeneous situations, the depth of the social transformations brought about by the urban transition has stirred major debates on city life and cityness in this part of Africa, once regarded as a bastion of African rurality. This initially led to the emergence of a scientific dialogue between East African cities themselves. However, this conversation has now opened up beyond this sub-region: researchers who work in East Africa have now engaged in broader international debates about city life, converse with urban scholars from other parts of the world, and are involved in comparative research projects that cross-cut regional divides (Rizzo and Atzeni, 2020).

There and hereafter Chapels in ecclesial space of 17th -century France

The formal or functionalist analysis of sacred space tends to see the ecclesiastical building as a juxtaposition of clearly distinct spaces - the nave, the choir, or the transept - the separation of which would reflect, in particular, the difference in status (clerics and laity). It is clear that by returning to the modern definition of the chapel, which is attached not to a space but solely to an altar, this cartography of ecclesial space is immediately confused. This colloquium aims to study the place of chapels within the ecclesial space in 17th century France and to evaluate their role in the definition of religious sentiment.

    L’emprise de la communication

    The Grip of Communication

The French aeronautical industries and the world: international cooperation and internationalisation strategies from the Liberation to the 1980s

This study day proposes to address several themes linked together by the relations that the French aeronautical industries have established and maintained with various countries and foreign aeronautical firms in a context of recovery, restructuring and development of this French industry. It is intended to highlight international industrial cooperation, its creation and implementation processes as well as the actors involved and their roles in these original partnerships. The aim of this study session is also to reveal the evolution of these forms of collective production and the specialisation of the actors involved during the period under consideration. Finally, it tends to show that far from being limited to industrial cooperation, the global ambition of French aeronautical firms also developed without foreign aid thanks to internationalisation strategies that evolved during the said period.

Financing agricultural and food transformations. Practices, mechanisms, collective action, and public policies

« Revue internationale des études du développement » n°254

This issue is a continuation of the series of thematic issues that the Revue Tiers Monde, now the Revue internationale des études du développement has regularly published for 25 years on the subject of financial inclusion (no. 145, 1996; no. 172, 2002; no. 197, 2009; no. 225, 2016). This issue calls for original papers based on field research that contribute to knowing how the transformation of agricultural and rural systems in emerging and developing countries is financed, and more specifically, how farmers are financed. It aims, in particular, at delving into the new practices in the field of agricultural and rural financing, which is often marginalized in development financing policies.

“In space no one can hear you scream, or can they?”

Fictions of terror in the Southern Cone and Brazil: recent representations

    Amerika n°26

This issue of Amerika will explore Southern Cone’s and Brazil’s horrific and terrific recent literature. In Latin America, violence is ubiquitous producing fear and anguish, and these emotions can be contagious. Fear and anguish are intrinsically related to terror, and they can take place both at a collective level and at an individual level. Many authors use terror to deal with subjects such as politics, family, violence, poverty, public security, social radicalization, the body and the feminine condition.

Refugees in the world: history and emergency
