  Seminar HOME II

  Après avoir exploré la relation du sujet aux lieux d’origine dans les narrations contemporaines au cours d’un premier cycle de conférences Home: Heaven and Hell, HOME pousse cette fois l’enquête du côté de la reconstruction d’un imaginaire domestique. Quel est ce nouveau foyer qui suit l’errance, l’exil ou la migration ? Portant cette fois le titre Home Away From Home, ce deuxième cycle de séminaires souhaite interroger les représentations littéraires et artistiques contemporaines des espaces adoptés afin de comprendre comment ceux-ci se construisent en interaction avec un sujet qui voit aboutir sa quête d’un territoire.

  Populismos y neopopulismos en el mundo atlántico (Europa - América latina)

  Definiciones y conceptos a la luz de la evolución política de las últimas décadas

  Actualmente estamos viendo como en  una gran parte del mundo se está produciendo la aparición de nuevas formas políticas que, a falta de un mejor concepto, se denominan «populismos» o «neopulismos». Al tomarse como ejemplos la elección de Donald Trump en Estados Unidos o Jair Bolsonaro en Brasil, así como los regímenes de Vladimir Putin, Victor Orban, la Liga Norte y el Movimiento de las Cinco Estrellas, se puede observar como esta evolución ha sufrido una deformación patológica de una forma política que previamente habría existido en una forma «originalmente pura»: la democracia liberal. En este contexto, en el que los conceptos sólo se utilizan para alimentar la invectiva, nos parece importante reunir a investigadores de diferentes disciplinas y procedencias para favorecer los análisis comparativos o los intercambios que promuevan las perspectivas comparativas.

  Une discipline indisciplinée: défis à venir pour les études des cultures populaires

  This call for paper is for a workshop which it itself included in this year's international symposium of the AFEA (Franch Association of American Studies) which will happen in Nantes, France from May 22 nd to the 24th. This year's main theme of the conference is "discipline/indiscipline." (event for which you can find more information here: http://www.afea.fr/-2019-AFEA-Conference-Discplines-Indiscipline-.html) This workshop intends to address and explore further this binary dichotomy through the prism of cultural studies, interrogating more precisely if the emergence of pop cultural studies is truly something to advocate for. Communications can tackle this issue from a more theoretical standpoint, but they can also deal with more precise case studies which would illustrate how pop culture and cultural studies are both defying disciplinary classifications. Communications can be either in French or in English.

  Philosophical Journal of Conflict and Violence / PJCV

  Reason and rational modes of thought are often seen as the bastion against the acceleration of conflict into violence and the goal of the Enlightenment tradition was, in a large part, to liberate individuals from those irrational superstitions and beliefs which were at the base of these conflicts. However, many critiques of the Enlightenment project, both historical and more contemporary, see the imposition of universal reason as itself a form violence, ignoring claims of comprehensive traditions, identity and history on the individual. The aim of this special edition of the Philosophical Journal of Conflict and Violence is to examine possible counter-enlightenment approaches to violence, conflict and conflict resolution.

  Pensar los vínculos sociales en Iberoamérica. Lenguajes, experiencias y temporalidades (siglo XVI-XXI)

  Desde la época de la Conquista y la colonización hasta nuestros días, los vínculos sociales han sido extremadamente intensos, complejos y conflictivos en Iberoamérica. Se puede explorar el lenguaje social de la solidaridad y de la desunión, así como la manera en que desde finales del siglo XIX las ciencias sociales y la psicología social oscilaron entre discursos, encuestas y conceptualización en un intento siempre renovado para dar cuenta de las especificidades, patologías y acomodaciones de sociedades cada vez más diversificadas. Como parte sustancial del vínculo social, la memoria colectiva puede estudiarse desde una perspectiva historiográfica que explore la diversidad de sus motivos y manifestaciones durante los últimos cinco siglos.

  Miradas mexicanas sobre Francia y Estados Unidos (1821-1950)

  ¿Qué revelan sobre Ellos y Nosotros los epistolarios, diarios intimos, memorias y otros documentos olvidados?

  El coloquio propone invertir la mirada para tratar de la visión compartida por los viajeros mexicanos sobre el otro mundo, Francia y Estados Unidos, países visitados por innumerables figuras políticas e intelectuales, además de  testigos anónimos, desde la Independencia de México hasta mediados del siglo XX. Se tratará de descifrar aquellos testimonios mexicanos de naturaleza privada e íntima (epistolarios, memorias, diarios…) sin excluir las crónicas y documentos publicados en la prensa mexicana sobre los mundos francés y estadounidense entre 1821 y 1950.

  Cartographies de l'Europe du Sud-Est

  The Association international d’études du sud-est européen is happy to invite you to the 12^th Congress of South-East European Studies, taking place in Bucharest, from the 2^nd to the 7^th of September 2019. One of the conference panels, organized by Robert Born (Leipzig) and Marian Coman (Bucharest), is dedicated to the cartographic history of south-eastern Europe. Proposals for individual papers are welcome on various aspects of the history of south-eastern Europe cartography, from the Ottoman period to the post-communist era. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following: Renaissance and Early Modern maps of the Ottoman Empire, Enlightenment cartographies of Eastern Europe, the birth of national cartography, war and peace cartographies, historical and propaganda maps, national and local surveys, Cold War cartographies.

  Le patrimoine industriel européen de la première guerre mondiale

  The First World War marked the history of Europe. It has been characterized by an unprecedented effort in industrial production, which today constitutes a common European heritage. The industrial heritage of the First World War, however, seems to be invisible: it is not identified or even defined as such, whereas this war was characterized by the massive use of industrial technology, both in the field of the production of weapons, aircraft and chemicals for military purposes as well as in the civil sector, particularly for agri-food production. It is interesting to note that conversely, the industrial heritage of the Reconstruction could be the subject of work. The organization of a European symposium, the first on this theme, is essential in order to establish an inventory of the material traces that still exist today and to draw the attention of the public authorities to the need to ensure their conservation.

  Critiques de la démocratie, autoritarismes, populismes en Europe

  Quelles continuités et ruptures entre l'entre-deux-guerres et aujourd'hui ?

  Face au sentiment de « crise » de la démocratie de ces dernières années, amplifié par la montée des mouvements populistes, la comparaison avec l’entre-deux-guerres est récurrente dans le débat politique de nombreux pays européens. Est-elle pour autant pertinente pour comprendre les enjeux démocratiques spécifiques aux deux périodes ? Tel est le point de départ de la journée d’étude inaugurant le Programme formation recherche « Quelle(s) démocratie(s) ? Réflexions sur la crise, la modernisation et les limites de la démocratie en Allemagne, en France, en Angleterre et en Europe centrale entre 1919 et 1939 » soutenu par le Centre interdisciplinaire d’études et de recherches sur l’Allemagne (CIERA).

  Municipalisation et gestion urbaine au Mozambique

  Le Mozambique est encore très largement géré par l'administration de l'État central: il n'y a que 58 municipalités, toutes urbaines. La questionne est donc très politique, puisque toute avancée de la municipalisation permet à l'opposition d'acquérir plus de poids, même si le parti au pouvoir garde le contrôle sur la majorité d'entre elles. Ce colloque international aura lieu une dizaine de jours après la tenue des élections municipales d'octobre 2018, qui seront un test grandeur nature pour les élections présidentielles et législatives de l'année suivante...

  La guerre comme zone de contact au XIXe siècle

  Cette journée d’étude se propose d’initier un débat sur les formes de la rencontre et celles des transferts en temps de guerre pendant un « long dix-neuvième siècle » (1789-1914). Nous souhaitons également travailler sur la manière dont les historiens utilisent les nouvelles méthodes numériques et transforment les études de cas de façon à rendre leurs résultats plus largement accessibles. Le choix de cette période est déterminé par la richesse de ses multiples innovations dans des domaines comme la communication, les transports de masse, l’armement, le droit international concernant la conduite de la guerre, qui ont alimenté une fructueuse réflexion sur le fait de savoir si le XIX^e siècle ouvrait la voie à la totalisation de l’activité guerrière ou s’il devait être évalué en ses propres termes.

  France and the European Union – Part-time teaching post at New York University (NYU) Paris

  The course France & the European Union investigates the political economy of European integration from the end of the Second World War to present day with a particular focus on the role played by France in this development.  It considers the incentives that have led an ever-larger group of European nations to form multilateral agreements around a growing range of policies that now incorporate such diverse spheres as defense, economics, and human rights. It then turns to the challenges Europe faces in maintaining the European Union (EU) in the face of growing skepticism among national electorates as well as attempts to undermine the EU (by Russia) or withdraw support from it (by the U.K. and the U.S.).

  Avec cette rencontre nous souhaitons promouvoir l’étude et la réflexion autour du Voyage et du Cosmopolitisme, notamment par le biais des relations inter et transculturelles. Le croisement des différents savoirs et des différents champs disciplinaires, non seulement des sciences humaines mais aussi des sciences sociales, permettront de traiter de multiples problématiques, telles que l’héritage culturel, la globalisation de la culture, l’identité, la citoyenneté. Partant de l’éthique de « reliance », telle qu’elle est définie par Edgar Morin, les littératures, les arts et les autres langages scientifiques peuvent questionner et mettre en rapport les singularités universelles, suivant, par exemple, les études développées par Alain Badiou.

  La culture et la langue françaises ont joué un rôle important dans le monde, tout particulièrement dans la presse du XIX^e siècle, phénomène qui s’étend jusqu’au milieu du XX^e siècle et s’est développée grâce à l’expansion des moyens techniques de production et de communication, permettant la circulation des modèles de presse et des sujets traités, ainsi que la constitution d’imaginaires mondialisés. Ce congrès est ainsi consacré à rassembler des chercheurs dédiés à l’étude de la presse périodique francophone dans les Amériques du XIX^e et début du XX^e siècle, comme journaux, revues et almanachs.

  Writing the city [into the urban]

  In the aftermath of the May 1968 uprising in Paris, Henri Lefebvre published in 1970 his classic treatise La Révolution Urbaine where he pointedly placed the urban in the centre of this revolution, identifying a theoretical need for the concept of the urban as a planetary possibility, one he considered more appropriate than a redundant notion of the city as a social scientific object. This workshop is a step in this direction where, coming 50 years after the backlash of ’68, this event aims to establish a conversation between the city and the urban by drawing on the notion of "ethnographic theorisation" where the theoretical potential of the urban can be harnessed from ethnographic insights of the city. It explores contingent ways in which the city can be written into the urban through manoeuvres that engage with the process of writing the city across disciplines from literary cultures to urban studies

  Connecting Mediterranean and Atlantic History

  2nd meeting of the Atlantic Italies Network

  The Atlantic Italies Network – a developing network of scholars working on economic entanglements and related cultural phenomena that emerged between Italian-speaking territories and the Atlantic world from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century – aims at examining connections related to European states without colonies as well as their links to sub-Saharan Africa and the Americas and at contributing to current attempts to analyse early modern Italian territories in their global contexts. The second meeting of the network will particularly appreciate papers involving economic dimensions related to shipping, trade and economic interconnections, but we welcome all proposals contributing to our overall perspective.

  Myth and Audiovisual Creation

  V Congreso Internacional de Mitocrítica "Mito y creación audiovisual"

  El V Congreso Internacional de Mitocrítica “Mito y creación audiovisual” es una iniciativa del Programa de Investigación Acis&Galatea, financiado por la Comunidad de Madrid y el Fondo Social Europeo. El Congreso estará dividido en 4 sedes según los temas: “Mitos germánicos” en la Universidad de Alcalá, “Mitos clásicos” en la Universidad Autónoma, “Mitos bíblicos” en la Universidad Francisco de Vitoria y “Mitos modernos” en la Universidad Complutense. El congreso  analizará el impacto de los mitos en la creación audiovisual desde el año 1900 hasta la actualidad y se organizará en torno a cuatro sedes durante dos semanas. Los investigadores pueden enviar a una de las 4 sedes su propuesta de comunicación. Su tarea consistirá en analizar el papel del cine, las series de televisión y los videojuegos en la creación y adaptación de los mitos antiguos, medievales y modernos a nuestro mundo contemporáneo.
