  The Chair of Defense Economics and the Institute for Strategic Research (IRSEM, Paris) organize a workshop on the theme “Economics, Security and Politics”. Throughout this day, we will explore the links between democracy, its construction, public opinions and military actions or conflicts. We will mostly focus on the relationships between citizenship and military actions. The term “citizenship” embraces here elements related to public opinion and the rise of nationalism or populism in modern societies.

  Predatory state

  This symposium is part of a recent and very dynamic renewal of research on the State in economics involving a critical examination of two dominant postulates of the discipline: 1) the assumption of an apolitical State or a benevolent dictatorship which pursues no private interest maximizing the general interest. 2) The assumption of “soft trade”, i.e. the exclusion of social conflicts, inter-state and intra-state wars in the presence of markets. Our discussions aim to explore how the sovereign, prudential, and providential dimensions of the state can be interpreted if these two assumptions are dropped. What is the place of conflictual power in the genesis and evolution of the rules governing the distribution of wealth and economic, social, and ecological development?

Elle questionne l'art et l'histoire, les événements et les œuvres, et les œuvres en tant qu'événements. Elle se consacre particulièrement à l’étude des déclencheurs inattendus de l’acte créatif ; elle interroge ses moteurs, ses détours, ses écarts.

  Culinary Translation

  Translation and the culinary arts are universal human activities. Both have been practised since time immemorial. They are also eminently cultural. When Larbaud says “you are who you translate” (“Dis moi qui tu traduis, je te dirai qui tu es” – 1946: 95), he is obviously thinking of Brillat-Savarin’s aphorism, “you are what you eat” (“Dis moi ce que tu manges, je te dirai qui tu es” – [1825] 2017, Aphorisme IV, p. 19). Each has long been an object of investigation in the humanities and beyond, and the recent growth of research in the field of Translation Studies has been mirrored in the field of Food Studies. It seems curious that the complementary areas of investigation have not been combined more often. We have therefore decided to marry these two ingredients at an international conference to be held at the University of Lille, France, from 18 to 20 March 2020.

  Meeting with the writer Pablo Landeo and the presentation of his Quechua language novel "Aqupampa"

  L'association Amériques de l'INALCO en partenariat avec l'ambassade du Pérou en France proposent une rencontre avec l'écrivain Pablo Landeo Muñoz et la présentation de son roman en quechua Aqupampa. Carlos Amézaga, ministre conseiller à l’ambassade du Pérou, prononcera un discours d’ouverture. La présentation du roman sera faite par César Itier (INALCO). Elle sera suivie d’un dialogue avec l’auteur Pablo Landeo Muñoz et d’une lecture d’extraits du roman (surtitrés en français). Cette rencontre sera clôturée par un concert de musique andine proposé par le groupe Paris Andes.

The annual symposium was created to bring together doctoral, masters, and undergraduate students as well as early career academics in a friendly academic environment that facilitates discussion around history of crime issues. This Third edition will be attended by students and academics from the USA, UK and France. The symposium is deliberately broad in reach and we make every effort to draw together wide and diverse topics in order that contributors feel encouraged to participate and present their research in-progress as well as engaging and informative short papers.

  The undisciplined discipline: the challenges of Pop Cultural Studies

  This call for paper is for a workshop which it itself included in this year's international symposium of the AFEA (Franch Association of American Studies) which will happen in Nantes, France from May 22 nd to the 24th. This year's main theme of the conference is "discipline/indiscipline." (event for which you can find more information here: http://www.afea.fr/-2019-AFEA-Conference-Discplines-Indiscipline-.html) This workshop intends to address and explore further this binary dichotomy through the prism of cultural studies, interrogating more precisely if the emergence of pop cultural studies is truly something to advocate for. Communications can tackle this issue from a more theoretical standpoint, but they can also deal with more precise case studies which would illustrate how pop culture and cultural studies are both defying disciplinary classifications. Communications can be either in French or in English.

  Midterm conference of the Research Network “Sociology of Migration” of the European Sociological Association

  Current political and media discourses on the questions of “integration”, “belonging” and “borders” are dominated by the perspectives of Western nation states. The objective of this midterm conference of the Research Network 35 “Sociology of Migration” of the European Sociological Association (ESA) is to shift the focus to the perspectives of those who are labeled and talked about in these debates and who become the target of ever-more complex and differentiated border and mobility regimes. This conference will, in other words, interrogate the way belongings and borders are presently challenged and reshaped on different levels (local, national, international) and how biographical perspectives in migration research can shed new light on these processes.

  The objective of this workshop is to create the conditions for the emergence of a scientific community using digital collaborative tools within Ethiopian studies. There is no need to recall the scientific and technological context in which we live to understand the importance and challenges of this methodological revolution. Many initiatives have emerged over the past two decades, both in terms of the availability of digitized documentation and the tools to use it. After the first experiments, interoperability and sharing have become the key words, and Ethiopian studies must respond to these good practices.

  Dans le cadre de l’étude de l’acquisition des langues de l’axe 2 du laboratoire Octogone-Lordat « Apprentissage/acquisition des langues et bilinguisme » et plus précisément, dans l’acquisition de l’espagnol L2, nous organisons cette journée d’études afin de présenter des études récentes sur l’apprentissage du vocabulaire espagnol par des étudiants francophones. Le lexique mental, la partie la plus plastique et dynamique de la langue, est un objet de recherche qui de par son évolution constante, mérite une attention particulière de la part de chercheurs autant en didactique qu’en acquisition d’une langue étrangère.

  Lors de ces conférences, Edwiges Morato abordera des aspects théoriques et méthodologiques (comme le programme de langage et le programme d'expression théâtral) développés au Centre de Convivência des Afásiques (CCA) créé à l'initiative des chercheurs du département de linguistique (Institut d'études du langage) et de neurologie (faculté de médicine), de l'université de l'État de Campinas (Unicamp). José Tonezzi développera quelques préceptes qui composent sa recherche, et dont la thématique découle des expériences par lesquelles le corps et/ou le comportement humain hors du cadre normatif de la société deviennent des éléments de création artistique. Le discours provient d'un projet reunissant artistes avec ou sans handicap et également d'activités théâtrales appliquées à un groupe de personnes afasiques, pour qui le théâtre incide dans la pratique expressive et sert comme recours de communication.

  Artistic theories and practices in the academic context - polarisation and contaminations

  La multiplication de cours de pós-graduação (Master, Doctorat et Post-doctorat) dans le champ de l’art au Brésil ces dernières dix années interroge davantage l’interaction entre théories et pratiques dans le contexte académique. La présence de disciplines dans lesquelles s’inscrivent une pratique artistique – arts visuels, musique, danse, théâtre, cinéma, littérature, entre autres – interpelle le binarisme entre art et science et propose des nouvelles formes de perceptions de l’objet d’étude, ainsi que des nouveaux critères d’argumentation et d’évaluation de recherche académique. Comment une pratique artistique peut devenir un objet de recherche académique ? Comment gérer la particularité de ces recherches e de ses résultats ? Quelles sont les stratégies utilisées pour outrepasser les binarismes imposés par les modèles scientifiques tout en emphatisant le pouvoir réflexif de l’art et l’imminente nécessité de créativité pour la formulation théorique ?

  Gloria Evangelina Anzaldúa (1942-2004) is a major figure in many inter-disciplines, disciplinary areas of scholarship and art. She was born in the U.S., in the Rio Grande Valley at the border of Texas and Mexico into a family that had been in the U.S. for six generations, and died in Santa Cruz, California. Anzaldúa contributed foundational works to Chicana/o/x cultural theory, feminist theory and queer theory.

  For its 16^th annual symposium, the International Medieval Society Paris invites scholarly papers on any aspect of time in the Middle Ages. Papers may deal with the experience or exploitation of time, its reckoning or measuring, its inscription, its theorization, or the question of how or why or whether we should demarcate the “Middle Ages.” Papers focusing on historical or cultural material from medieval France or post-Roman Gaul, or on texts written in medieval French or Occitan, are particularly encouraged, but compelling papers on other material will also be considered.

  Thinking social bonds in Iberian America. Languages, experiences and temporalities (16th-21st centuries)

  De l’époque de la Conquête et de la colonisation jusqu’à nos jours, les liens sociaux ont été extraordinairement intenses, complexes et conflictuels en Amérique ibérique. Il est possible d’explorer le langage social de la solidarité et de la désunion, et de se demander comment, depuis la fin du XIX^e siècle, les sciences sociales et la psychologie sociale ont oscillé entre discours, enquêtes et conceptualisations selon une tentative toujours renouvelée de rendre compte des spécificités, des pathologies et des adaptations de sociétés de plus en plus diversifiées. En tant qu’élément substantiel du lien social, la mémoire collective peut être abordée selon une perspective historiographique qui explore la diversité de ses motifs et de ses manifestations tout au long des cinq derniers siècles.

  Language, Cognition and Creativity

  8th International Biennial Conference of the French Association for Cognitive Linguistics (AFLiCo)

  We welcome 20 minute presentations (with 8 minutes for follow-up questions) from researchers interested in linguistic creativity. Interdisciplinary papers are welcome which address verbal creativity in conversations, humor, written communication, the verbal arts, multimodal forms, gestures, etc. Because creativity is of interest to many different researchers (see scientific statement below), we also welcome papers from those working on creativity in fields such as psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, pragmatics, and psychology. The organizers especially encourage young researchers to submit an abstract. Presentations may be made in French or English.

  Labrouste Room debate at the National Art History Institute

  Un auteur dialogue à propos de son livre avec un invité. Ce cycle se déroule dans la salle Labrouste, salle de lecture de la bibliothèque de l’Institut national d’histoire de l’art (INHA). L’ambition est de replacer l’ouvrage dans son contexte en faisant dialoguer les époques, les cultures et les disciplines qu’il convoque. Les ouvrages programmés dans le cadre de ce cycle sont des publications récentes. Ils sont proposés par les conseillers scientifiques et les bibliothécaires de l’Institut national d’histoire de l’art, conformément à l’esprit de l’établissement, qui regroupe différentes équipes dédiées à la recherche et à la plus vaste bibliothèque d’histoire de l’art au monde.
