Principles, Practices, and Challenges in a Globalized World

This conference aims to explore democracy in the university as a principle, a value, and a practice, both in France and internationally. It is structured around two parts – national and then comparative – and two thematic axes: on the one hand, the exercise of democracy within institutional structures (governance, elections, widened access, reforms); on the other hand, non-institutional forms (student mobilizations, participatory democracy, academic freedoms). The goal is to analyze the issues, actors, and democratic dynamics in a globalized university context.

This symposium proposes to examine how, from an economic and organizational perspective, societies reshape, rebuild, and find new avenues for transformation after times of crisis, both systemically and discursively.

Mapping the Other

In Western space, mapping the Other is not a prescriptive notion to assign ossified identities. Rather, it is about questioning the link between these intersectional identities of otherness and the specificities of the various Western spaces. In other words, it invites a reconsideration of how the Others autonomously define themselves in the dominant and marginal spaces of the “normative order” of hegemonic societies, and how they integrate them to make them theirs—therefore challenging the systems of oppression implemented.

The V International Conference on Mythcriticism “Myth and Audiovisual Creation” will analyze the impact of myth in audiovisual creation from 1900 to the present day. The Conference will be organized in four universities during two weeks.The Conference will be divided into 4 venues according to different themes: "Germanic Myths" in the University of Alcalá, "Classical Myths" in the University Autónoma, "Biblical Myths" in the University Francisco de Vitoria and "Modern Myths" in the University Complutense. Researchers can send to one of their 4 venues their abstracts. They will have to analyze the relevance of film, TV series and video games in the creation and modification of old, medieval and modern myths to our contemporary world.

Autrefois réservée à la pêche, au commerce et aux opérations militaires, la mer est devenue depuis plus de deux siècles, espace de loisir et objet de recherche. Mer et littoral prennent une importance croissante dans les pratiques et les enjeux de l’humanité. Il s’agit donc, aujourd’hui et demain, de l’exploiter de façon productive et dans un souci de durabilité. Ces enjeux, sources d’activités sociales, d’innovations (technologiques, socioéconomiques) et de conflits (locaux, internationaux), méritent qu’anthropologues, sociologues, économistes, historiens, géographes, juristes, littéraires, s’intéressent à ce monde gigantesque, dans un rapport interdisciplinaire avec les sciences biologiques, halieutiques ou océanographiques.

The CNFG (French National Committee for Geographers) in collaboration with IGUorganizes a two-day forum to discuss the relationship between languages, social contexts ofscientific production, and the overtly admitted language of scientific exchange, that is,English. It invites all French-speaking geographers, from different “national” and “linguistic”contexts, but also all geographers and geographies interested in sharing their views andexperience on the diffusion and production of knowledge in the global context.
