  The manufacture of teaching action: what didactic issues?

  Ce colloque international a pour but d’interroger les fondements de l’agir professoral en classe de langue. Comment l’enseignant construit-il son action ? Comment négocie-t-il la planification (objectifs, manuels, programmes) et l’interaction avec son public ? Quel est son rapport au matériau discursif et linguistique qui fait l’objet de son action enseignante ? On s’interrogera sur les savoirs d’action qui sont à l’arrière-plan de l’agir, ce que d’aucuns appellent « la pensée enseignante » (Tochon, 2000). Placé devant une trace de son action (image filmée notamment) le professeur convertit cette action en discours. Il est alors amené à proposer des significations qui sont à entendre comme ce que l’acteur propose comme interprétations quand il revient sur son action. Ce sont les apports à la didactique des langues du courant dit de la « pensée enseignante » que ce colloque abordera.

  De la politique économique à l'histoire économique de l'Antiquité : perspectives de recherche

  Scholars are used to study the ancient world, either through the “economic” category or the “politic” one, categories excluding one another. In the framework of a study day at the Ausonius Institute (Bordeaux), we have chosen to interrogate the relevance of the notion of economic policy, in order to analyse decisions made by the ancient societies about activities of material productions and goods exchanges. The study day will be concluded by a workshop intended for introducing new ways to study the ancient economic history.

  Manufacturers and merchants : making and exporting clocks and other luxury goods in the 18th century

  Roger Smith is an independent historian who was educated at the University of London. He was elected a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London in 2006. He is chiefly interested in the organisation of the manufacture and sale of clocks, watches and related luxury articles in the eighteenth century, including international aspects like the migration of craftsmen. He has done much research into the Anglo-Swiss watchmaking firm of Vulliamy of London, and is currently working on a major study of James Cox and his competitors in the trade in clocks and watches from Western Europe to Asia. As well as publishing extensively on such topics, he has acted as historical adviser to museums and auction houses, including the loan exhibition SingSong, Treasures from the Forbidden City at the Museum Speelklok, Utrecht in 2010-11.

  The purpose of the conference is both to continue our investigations into: subject choices, what is seen/unseen/shown in representations of war?; “mise en abîme” in war narratives – war as a spectacle, “theatres of war” and the dramatization/production of war; perspective and focalization – framing, distortion, expansion, filtering in war narratives; genre and mode – the persistence and appropriation of traditional models of war writing and graphic representation, including epic, tragedy, mythology, elegy, mock epic, realistic/mimetic mode, but also the deconstruction and questioning of these models; war and virtual reality/hyper-reality; aesthetic and ideological problems associated with the over- or under-representation of conflicts, abstraction, distancing, representing horror.

  Tacitus and Tacitism in Europe in the early modern era (16th-18th century)

  The writing of history and the conception of power

  Even if Tacitus was not totally unknown during the medieval period, the publication in Venice of the editio princeps of his works around 1470 and then, in 1515, the first edition of the Annales with the recently rediscovered first six books, marked the beginning of a real fascination for the Roman historian, for his approach to history, his style, and even more so, for his political lessons. All over Europe numerous editions of his books, in Latin or in translation, were published, as well as critical commentaries and political treaties that all claimed, under various forms, to be inspired by the ideas of Tacitus, thus giving birth to “Tacitism”.

Viols, émasculations, bâtardises, exacerbations viriles, tortures ciblées, outrages sexuels des cadavres, commerces des corps méritent d’être recontextualisés, d’être spécifiés, et comparés. C’est aux confins des disciplines (anthropologie, psychanalyse, littérature, arts de l’image, histoire), qu’il faudra tenter de penser la vectorisation sexuelle du conflit, de ses figurations et de ses mémoires.

  This meeting is organized with the aim to bring together young researchers around the issues associated with the excavation and study of ceramic materials, in particular in the “mixed” archaeological contexts. In fact, any young researcher who begins a typo-chronological study quickly faces many questionings, which are amplified and become more complex in the case of historical-archaeological contexts involving at least two different material cultures, especially when they cohabit, coexist, through ways that are already eagerly discussed in the current research.

  Économie de waqf-habous : possession et circulation des propriétés en waqf en terre d’islam

  Economy and waqf-habous: possession and circulation of waqf properties in Islamic regions

  This seminar on waqf enters into its 3rd year. After having studied daily use of waqf, followed by the subject of networks of individuals connected to waqf in Islamic lands and other religious communities in those regions, in 2012-13, we are studying the economy and waqf. This is important in the sens that economic networks related to waqf reflect and reveal both the vertical and horizonatal depth of the contacts which are established with respect to waqf operations (rent of waqf properties, transfer of those properties, state politics in this respect) and the society in which they function. The documents studied in this seminar (judicial, legislative, literary) coming from Muslim majority regions but also from Europe where waqf is developing (United Kingdom, Austria, USA) will compose the program this year.

  Cette conférence internationale est consacrée à l'analyse des dimensions économiques et sociales du « Printemps arabe » et aux significations politiques multiples et plurielles que l'islam peut assumer. Par une approche d'économie politique seront analysées différentes manifestations du religieux dans la société, et diverses configurations sociales au-delà des considérations d'ordre sécuritaire, d'intégration ou de compatibilité entre l'islam et la démocratie. En adoptant une perspective comparative seront explorées, à partir de recherches de terrain en cours et aussi au-delà du monde arabe, des nouvelles façons d'interpréter les transformations politiques en cours et les multiples significations que l'islam peut avoir (et ne pas avoir).

  Orientalism from the Margins

  Perspectives from India and Russia

  Projeté à l’occasion de la réunion des sections des langues orientales et slaves de l’université de Lausanne, ce colloque vise à explorer la notion des « marges » de l’orientalisme dénoncé par Edward Saïd en plaçant au centre des réflexions quelques cas de figures qui sont demeurés hors de la critique post-coloniale. Mettant en parallèle le cas anglo-indien, souvent présenté comme emblématique de l’« orientalisme classique », et le cas russo-soviétique, à la fois objet de l’orientalisme européen (et pour cette raison stigmatisé comme « euro-asiatique ») et producteur d’un discours « orientaliste », cette rencontre vise à décentrer le regard des espaces impériaux franco-britanniques pour le rediriger vers des comparaisons moins traditionnelles, tant à l’égard des histoires respectives des études orientalisantes, que par rapport aux mécanismes de l’orientalisation et des exotisations.

  Leaving a mark: seals and their use

  Around the Anglo-Norman space

  L’espace normand et anglo-normand, au sein duquel les pratiques sigillographiques furent aussi originales que diversifiées durant l’époque médiévale, sera privilégié, mais on souhaite ouvrir la réflexion à d’autres espaces, européens et méditerranéens, et à d’autres périodes, notamment à l’Antiquité hellénistique et romaine. Le colloque sera également l’occasion de réfléchir au devenir des collections anciennes (matrices, empreintes, moulages), de faire le point sur l’état de la documentation disponible, sur les inventaires en cours et sur les projets de numérisation et de restauration entrepris récemment, en France et à l’étranger. La multiplication des opérations archéologiques durant ces dernières décennies et l’essor de la détection en Europe de l’Ouest ont également renouvelé l’approche traditionnelle du sceau, tant en ce qui concerne certains types d’empreintes (sur argile ou sur métal) que les matrices.

  War and Peace in French history

  Sixtieth Annual Meeting of the Society for French Historical Studies (SFHS)

  The SFHS conference’s theme will be “War and Peace in French history”, with special reference to the centenary of the outbreak of World War I. Scheduled guest-speakers will be twentieth century specialists Professors John Horne (Trinity College, Dublin) and Martha Hanna (University of Colorado, Boulder), both noted scholars of France and the Great War; and Philippe Contamine, Emeritus Professor of medieval history and Membre de l’Institut, who will lecture on the theme of the Hundred Years War in comparison with World War I.
