Call for papers - Political studies
In 1970, Michel Foucault highlighted the links between discourse and power in his inaugural lecture at the Collège de France : “I am supposing that in every society the production of discourse is at once controlled, selected, organized and redistributed according to a certain number of procedures, whose role is to avert its powers and its dangers […]”. This issue is also found in films. Even though Costa-Gavras has stated that “cinema is not a political discourse but a spectacle”, it seems that political discourse and movies are closely linked. This is demonstrated by the many films in which characters speak out in public to defend a cause, exploring the very nature of politics as the art of representation.

Degrowth in Mountain Tourism: Future Challenges and Prospects of Tourism in Mountain Regions
Global tourism has growth to a level that questions the current and future sustainability of the industry and its impacts for our environment. While the developmental aspects of tourism have been largely based on the scale of visitors flows, there is an increasing need to think the limits to growth in tourism and alternative development paradigms for future tourism. This kind of questioning of the impacts of growth, in general, is not new (First Report to the Club of Rome, 1972; First World Climate Conference [Geneva] 1979; Brundtland Report 1987), but there are new ways to reconceptualise alternative futures for development. In tourism, one of the recently emerged idea is based on a degrowth thinking in economic and social development discussion in the 2000s (Latouche, 2022; Bernard et al., 2003)

This conference will focus on the links that can be observed between gender and memory in textual and iconographic sources. This conference belongs to a cycle created by the Structure Fédératrice de Recherche ALLHiS, and as such, will focus more specifically on the analysis of the sources used by researchers. This conference aims at questioning the ways in which memory and gender are represented, whether it be in written sources (manuscripts, literary or legal texts…), iconographic sources (photos, statues, paintings…) or immaterial sources (ethnographic data). The aim of such a study is to welcome works based on the study of as many different sources as possible, which will enable researchers to construct an interdisciplinary overview of these sources that aims at being diverse rather than exhaustive.

Il est important d’actualiser les données concernant notre sujet en fonction des mutations géopolitiques récentes dans le monde contemporain et notamment dans la région maghrébine, pour pouvoir proposer des recommandations, des préconisations, et des pistes de réflexions cohérentes, pouvant faciliter les prises de décisions en termes de politiques publiques.

Edges of the sacred. Materializing thresholds, from Antiquity to the end of the Middle Ages

Art historians and archaeologists working on sacred monuments are not only interested in the architectural forms and techniques and the painted and/or sculpted decoration: they also try to reconstruct the ceremonies and circulations that took place around and inside the buildings they study. A sacred space is defined by a material or symbolic boundary that separates the building and its surroundings from profane space. This area, which belongs to the divinity, is bounded by a set of rules and customs that govern ritual practice, which is itself closely linked to space: gestures, sacrifices, prayers and paths take place in specific locations, the identification and function of which are often specified by architecture and decoration.

XII. International Congress of the German Society of Aesthetics
So-called “media art” has been around not only since technical media began to intervene in the art world; there has never been media-free art. There is no art that does not express itself in certain media, be it image, sound, light, space or language. There is no art that does not rely on marble and chisel, colour and canvas, pen and paper, sound waves and screen, bits and bytes. Neither media nor materials are ever external to a work of art; rather, aesthetic meaning only arises through the respective medial-material configuration and would be invalid without it. The XII. Congress of the German Society for Aesthetics will focus on the question of the media of the arts.

The third edition of the Rotondes Congress, created by and for young researchers in Art History and Archaeology, will focus on the theme “Refinding the Past: Issues and Methods of Reconstruction in Art History and Archaeology” and will provide an opportunity to discuss the issues, methods and processes involved in the historical and archaeological reconstruction of an objet, a place, an atmosphere or technique. The aim of Rotondes is to provide a space for young researchers, artists, critics, and other art professionals to meet and exchange ideas.

Communication, Information, Politics and Culture in the U.S.
Médiamerica is a seminar on American news media organized by researchers working in France. Its aim is to cultivate research on the links between communication, politics, culture, and the processes by which information is produced, circulated, and given form, focusing on the North American context. Médiamerica brings together researchers with varied backgrounds to explore these issues from both historical and contemporary perspectives. The seminar offers a space for scholarly reflection and debate, to consider emergent phenomena in news and communication, as well as the ways in which the academic community on both sides of the Atlantic conceptualize such phenomena. This initiative seeks to build bridges between anglophone studies and communication studies, encouraging dialogue between different methodological approaches and benefiting from an intercultural perspective.

Must one imagine Sisyphus happy?
On the occasion of the multimedia exhibition «Must one imagine Sisyphus happy?», a symposium, also titled «Must one imagine Sisyphus happy?», aims to explore the discourses and postures that emerge from literary texts over the centuries (16th-21st centuries) concerning the ethics of work. From Robinson Crusoe to Annie Ernaux, we wish to engage, through a series of case studies, with the inner lives of the characters represented over the centuries. We will also question the perspectives and postures of the narrators, as well as those of the authors (who sometimes, especially before the 20th century, represent labour without having experienced it firsthand). In short, we wish to delve into the ambivalence of literary texts.

Ce sixième numéro de la Revue Langues, Littératures et Arts, que nous coordonnons, a pour ambition d’explorer ensemble la richesse et la diversité de la littérature d'expression française. This call aims to bring together works that question the representation of insects and other “bichos” in literature aimed primarily at young people, in the Americas. Scrutinized especially through the prism of European culture, the insect appears small, repugnant, sometimes useful (the bee), sometimes an example of tenacity and courage (the ant). What about its place in the American space? Do indigenous cultures deploy discourses and images referring to a unique relationship to the world of “bugs”, different from or linked to those of European cultures? How does the study of “bugs” allow us to deepen our knowledge of the relationship with nature in the Americas and to identify avenues for educational action based on works published for young people?

Revue « Études en didactique des langues » (Edl)
Depuis une trentaine d’années, la notion de prise de risque apparaît de plus en plus fréquemment dans le domaine de la didactique des langues. Mais est-elle appropriée quand on parle d’enseignement/apprentissage des langues ? La prise de risque peut être source d’un mal-être ou d’une anxiété. Pour les apprenant·e·s, passer de l’usage de sa langue natale à la tentative de s’exprimer dans une langue que l’on ne maîtrise pas peut représenter une véritable épreuve. L’enseignant·e également prend un risque en acceptant de ne pas « maîtriser » une situation, voire de perdre le contrôle de sa classe.

The Philosophical Journal of Conflict and Violence (PJCV) welcomes submissions that relate the work of Ortega y Gasset to conflict and violence. Ortega’s philosophical writings are the product of Ortega plus his circumstances, and Ortega’s circumstances were indelibly marked by conflict and violence. Produced during a period of unprecedented political and social upheaval in Spain and globally, Ortega’s philosophy promoted an agonistic and Protean view of human character and social relations. As a future-facing, change-seeking, conservative progressive, Ortega’s thought remains a paradox and his work demands reconsideration and re-evaluation by every subsequent generation.

Hermeneutical Rationality and the Future of the Humanities
The set of challenges facing the Humanities today is an opportunity to rethink their future. This conference puts forward a twofold objective. On the one hand, it intends to explore the extent to which the hermeneutical paradigm of the Humanities (Schleiermacher, Dilthey, Gadamer, Ricœur, Taylor), which emphasizes the interpretive core of these disciplines and their contribution to human moral development can still provide meaningful answers to these challenges. On the other hand, it aims to intervene, in a reflective and critical manner, in the debates on the value, need and possible shape of the Humanities in the future.
