  From Liège to Strasbourg. New Research on the German-French Border Region During the High and Late Middle Ages (11th–16th Century)

  In the High and Late Middle Ages, the border region between the Kingdom of France and the Holy Roman Empire was a dynamic space not only in terms of territorial politics, but also in economic, religious, social and cultural terms, which always requires cross-border work in historical research. Despite this elementary precondition, there is currently a lack of cross-national and cross-language exchange, especially for young academics. In order to meet this need, we would like to invite MA graduates and young researchers to present their current research projects to a professional audience and to discuss them within the setting of a young researchers’ conference.

  Creating a memory of ancient pasts

  Choices, constructions and transmissions from the 9th to the 18th Century

  Our objective is to analyze the methods of the creation of a memory of the ancient pasts, according to a chronology which starts from the 9th Century, which was a period when creative activity was intense, ancient texts were rediscovered by Western Europe, but also when written memory increased, until the 18^th Century, when Antiquity was particularly mobilized, as much in the arts, with the emergence of archeology and neoclassicism, as in political speeches. Through the collected papers, the workshops aim to question the constants as well as the mutations of the strategies that authors and artists displayed in order to elaborate this (these) memory(-ies) of ancient pasts, since they selected and organised elements of the past to the detriment of others, which implies a range of recompositions.

  Ce dossier de la Revue d’histoire culturelle (XVIII^e-XXI^e siècles) intitulé « Psychanalyse et histoire culturelle : échanges et confrontation » présente de la façon la plus explicite et la plus concrète possible les traverses entre sciences humaines et sociales, histoire culturelle et psychanalyse. Il comprend un préalable : le recours à l’hypothèse de l’inconscient ne consiste pas à psychologiser les faits sociaux et culturels mais à dégager l’envers inconscient du fait collectif. Au-delà, il y a là un véritable enjeu pour les sciences humaines et sociales autour des liens entre sujet, symboles et représentations.

  The song in cinema

  Cette journée d’étude propose de questionner le rapport entre le cinéma et la chanson. Ce lien intime entre ces deux arts s'est illustré tout au long de l’histoire de cinéma jusqu'à nos jours par la richesse et l'inventivité qui résultent de cette rencontre. Bien que les études sur les musiques de film n’ont donné qu’une place limitée à la chanson, cette dernière touche un grand public et aide à une circulation importante des films, mais elle contribue aussi à la mémoire du public. Cette journée d’étude veut inviter à approfondir des recherches prenant en considération la chanson au cinéma en tant que genre plutôt qu’en tant qu'élément esthétique secondaire.

  The Summerschool “The Antiquity and its receptions” is  open to doctoral and advanced MA students, specializing in history, art history, archaeology, philology, or any other discipline linked with the theme of the reception of Antiquity. It is international in nature and aims to establish a multilingual dialogue (French, Italian and English) between the different methodologies in use in Europe, North America and elsewhere, and thus to promote interdisciplinarity. At the same time, it plans to test these methodologies in the field, in collaboration with heritage institutions such as museums, archaeological sites, archives and libraries in Rome and Tivoli.

  Derrida 2021: Biopolitics and deconstruction

  Derrida propose une lecture-écriture d’Agamben lisant Foucault. La machine textuelle du séminaire est ici complexifiée par ce double mouvement de lecture-commentaire qui nous fait lire Foucault avec les interprétations que son œuvre aura permises. D’une part la réflexion sur la biopolitique comme marque distinctive de l’exercice et des systèmes politiques contemporains ne fait jamais, chez Foucault, référence à Heidegger, d’où elle provient pourtant. D’autre part et surtout, l’annonce apocalyptique de l’avènement du biopolitique n’est pas partagée par Derrida, comme si elle faisait pendant à l’évangile de la fin de l’histoire par Fukuyama, qu’il avait dénoncé à juste titre dans Spectres de Marx. Vingt ans plus tard, alors qu’une pandémie frappe aujourd’hui mondialement les corps, que l’urgence climatique menace la survie des espèces, que les frontières s’ouvrent et se ferment au gré de conjonctures de plus en plus fluctuantes, le moment est venu de rouvrir le débat biopolitique.

  Since its origins, Cinema has made evident the existence of an open dialogue with other forms of art, either by having incorporated them into its own language – given its hybrid particularity, being simultaneously narrative, performative, visual and voiced –, or by having used existing productions as inspiration and having created, from them, new forms of art. Literature has proven to be a fertile ground for inspiration. Not by chance, great works that mark the beginning of the cinematographic trajectory were adaptations of novelistic or theatrical literary works. We propose for the issue 43 of Journal Caderno de Letras a dossier on all the potentialities of such dialogue involving Fantastic literary and audiovisual productions, whether based on adaptations (in both directions) or on the direct or indirect presence of Literature in audiovisual media or of audiovisual productions in literary texts.

  Historical destinies as the foundation of legitimacy

  The biographical genre in pop cultural studies

  The biographical genre has place of pride in Hollywood and in popular culture in general, understandably so: it brings together the pseudo-legitimacy of the period film and the widespread appetite for tales of remarkable destinies. Biographies can be found in films and series of course, and in traditional or graphic novels , but also in music , stage musicals , and even video game.Rewriting and romanticizing are cornerstones of the genre. They are a way for biographical fictions to turn historical facts into narratives that will be both accessible to the general public and bankable. This raises the question: who is pictured and, to some extent, mythologized, in biographical fiction? The issue of the lack of representation also comes to mind: are there any categories of people whose biographies are not fictionalized, or have only become an object of fiction recently?
