Writing history in the Maghreb (7th-20th centuries)

    Authors, texts, manuscripts

Studies in Arab historiography generally focus on the Middle-East marginalizing the North African contribution, with the exception of Ibn Khaldūn. The aim is therefore to highlight the Maghreb intellectual production in offering researchers the opportunity to showcase authors and works of all kinds to renew the history of the Maghreb. The vast chronological framework aims to bring together medievalists, modernists and contemporaneists, all too often separated: while focusing on the intense medieval production, the symposium will be an opportunity to emphasize the continuities of these genres for the modern period and the colonial period, sources which are either understudied or only through French-language sources.

    Reconciling art and craftsmanship

The conference examines the relationship that binds craftsmanship to the artistic field, through experiences examined in different countries, and asks the following questions: Is it imperative to set up an integrated training program for craftsmen across the whole Republic of Tunisia? Are the measures dedicated to the use of crafts as a privileged tool of the “anti-unemployment policy” sufficient? What is the responsibility of higher institutes of fine arts and crafts in Tunisia in promoting the sector? Designers and visual artists, will participate with their theoretical-practical projects, individual or collective, dedicated to this relationship between art and craftsmanship, to furnish an exhibition of arts and crafts objects, which will be organized in Tozeur in parallel with the conference.

From the disconnected letters to the science of letters: a meeting of knowledges in the Middle East

In order to interpret the disconnected letters of the Qur’an (ḥurūf muqaṭṭa‘a), Muslim thinkers have based their work on esoteric concepts, sometimes handed down from Antiquity, which have flourished in Islamic lands under the name of the science of letters (‘ilm al-ḥurūf). This international symposium aims to study the various representations of the mysterious letters within the wider framework of the science of letters, and to put them in perspective against similar readings from languages and cultures close to Arabic. Part of the symposium will be held in the historic citadel of Erbil in the heart of ancient Mesopotamia, “the land of the two rivers”, the cradle of early writing.

Poetics of the fictional place in the novel of the Arab peninsula

Revue « Littérature et culture arabes contemporaines » (LiCArC), N°11

The next issue of the magazine will focus on the poetics of the place in the novel produced in the Arab peninsula. Since the 1990s, with the appearance of the “spatial turn”, many theoretical studies have renewed ways of analyzing the construction of places in the novelistic text, giving them a new status within the narrative. This issue aims to analyse space in the novel from a particular point of view, that of place, a concept on which theoretical approaches agree, not space because of its multiple definitions and metaphorical uses.

Animals as Worshippers of God First of All

    On Animal Piety in Islam

In this symposium, we aim to consider the religious figure of the animal in Islam, neither as an object of worship (an idol) nor a means of worshipping (sacrificial offering), but rather as a fully-fledged subject, a worshipper of God and a model for all worshippers. What are the origin and theological posterity of verses like, “Do you not see that God is glorified by all those in the heavens and the earth, even birds in rows?” (24:41) What does believing in animal worship of God imply for the definition of religion itself?

This forum represents a process of developing the field of social and human sciences, as it is a gathering of disciplines and addresses an important problem in scientific research, which is the way the researcher sees the curricula used in this field with different specializations (political gloom, international relations, economics, law, advertising and communication, Sociology, psychology, history, geography, archeology, anthropology, literature, linguistics, sports sciences), and what they represent in terms of relativity according to the background of the vision, subjectivity and objectivity of the researcher, and the extent to which, he is able to enforce the theoretical framework of the various purities since they depend on the complexity of In terms of understanding, analyzing and interpreting the phenomenon, and in terms of intertwining between disciplines, one phenomenon is cross-disciplinary and overlaps between them.

Entrepreneurial skills for audiovisual design in education

Civil society and urban observation: knowledge generation and territorial governance

Economy and culture in Amazigh milieus

Religion in Constitutions within a Global Context: Political, Legal and Cultural Dimensions

Religions differ profoundly in terms of their impact on public life, the political breadth of their scriptures, and their foundational models. Islam, for example, is not a minimalist religion of just beliefs and rituals, rather, Islam encompasses all aspects of life in its philosophical, moral, and legal outlook. However, the issue of utilizing aspects of religion in constitutions is not exclusive to the Islamic world. Many, if not most, countries around the world have included religious texts, teachings, and obligations within their constitutions. Thus, it is necessary to deal with this issue within a global and comparative framework that encompasses its political, legal and cultural dimensions.

The Ancient and the New Silk Roads: Discourse and Knowledge
