Contemporary art and margins

Le colloque « Art contemporain et marges » interroge le rôle des marges dans les définitions de l'art contemporain, et notamment dans celles qu’élaborent ses acteurs. Il s’agira de comprendre les marges et la marginalité dans le champ de l’art selon leur caractère double : comme prise de position programmatique ou comme situation imposée. La réflexion sur la marginalité est-elle à même de mettre en lumière des traits spécifiques à l’art contemporain ? Cette problématique sera abordée dans une perspective interdisciplinaire – croisant les champs de la sociologie, de la philosophie, de la géographie et de l'histoire de l'art – et internationale.

The project Ptolemaeus Arabus et Latinus (PAL) is dedicated to the edition and study of the Arabic and Latin versions of Ptolemy’s astronomical and astrological texts and related material. These include works by Ptolemy or attributed to him, commentaries thereupon and other works that are of immediate relevance to understanding Ptolemy’s heritage in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern period up to 1700 A.D.

Human and social sciences at the museum: the museum-studies workshop

Les musées représentent, aujourd’hui encore, un lieu privilégié de mise en valeur de l’idée d’identité collective. Bien qu’un certain nombre de déconstructions aient été menées, entraînant des évolutions à l’intérieur de l’espace muséal, le terme d’identité reste volontiers invoqué. L’argument de présentation des « identités nationales », « locales » ou « transnationales », anime ainsi couramment les discours des professionnel(le)s de musées et fait l’objet d’une demande récurrente de la part des élu(e)s.

Cet atelier franco-allemand propose une initiation appliquée à la muséologie et à la muséographie, conçue spécialement pour les doctorant(e)s et mastérant(e)s de toutes les disciplines relevant des sciences humaines et sociales. L’histoire n’est pas, en effet, la seule à trouver sa place dans les musées. Les lettres, l’anthropologie, la géographie, la philosophie, la sociologie et bien d’autres disciplines encore y sont tout autant légitimes.

Second World Urbanity: Between Capitalist and Communist Utopias

Second World Urbanity: Between Capitalist and Communist Utopias seeks to investigate the history of the radical reshaping of the Soviet World (in our words - the Second World), that Ada Louise Huxtable reported on in the late 1960s. This project aims to bring together scholarly contributions on the various endeavors in the Second World to conceive, build, and inhabit a socialist cityscape that was an alternative to the segregated spaces of capitalist cities and the atomized world of suburbia. Imagining and designing urban space were undeniably powerful instruments of forging socialist modernity. Second World Urbanity pays close attention to the tensions between global challenges and locally driven agendas that made architects, planners, and ordinary dwellers alter socialist modernity according to more particular interests.

Phantom Borders in the Political Behaviour and Electoral Geography in East Central Europe

We understand phantom borders as political borders, which politically/legally do not exist anymore but seem to appear in different forms and modes of social action and practices today, as for example voting as one part of political behaviour. The conference deals with historical borders, made visible in discourses and maps concerning political behavior, as for instance in electoral maps. Our aim is to challenge the historical interrelation of current political behaviour, the involvement of geopolitical images, internal as external governance contexts and transnational networks for (re)constructing historical borders as phantom borders. We are interested in case studies especially about East Central Europe, but also in studies from all over the world combining qualitative and quantitative approaches, addressing the main questions of the conference. Case studies may address different levels and scales from local to transnational.

The Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context” at Heidelberg University invites applications for 2 PhD scholarships (3 years) on Sino-Soviet War Crimes Trials Policy (1944-1949) within the Junior Research Group (JRG) “Transcultural Justice: Legal Flows and the Emergence of International Justice within the East Asian War Crimes Trials, 1946-1954”. The JRG examines the interaction between War Crimes trials policy in Europe and Asia after 1945, and focuses on institutions and legal staff as agents of concepts and norms which later became codified as UN standard.

Music encoding is now a prominent feature of various areas in musicology and music librarianship. The encoding of symbolic music data provides a foundation for a wide range of scholarship, and over the last several years, has garnered a great deal of attention in the digital humanities. This conference intends to provide an overview of the current state of data modeling, generation, and use, and aims to introduce new perspectives on topics in the fields of traditional and computational musicology, music librarianship, and scholarly editing, as well as in the broader area of digital humanities. You are cordially invited to participate in the Music Encoding Conference 2013 – Concepts, Methods, Editions, to be held 22-24 May, 2013, at the Mainz Academy for Literature and Sciences in Mainz, Germany.

La politique peut être abordée sous de nombreux aspects, en termes de régimes politiques (démocratique ou autoritaire), d’institutions (partis, organes représentatifs, administrations), de mouvements, de discours. Les axes de recherche suivants peuvent être adoptés : Faire société / paix sociale / minorités réelles et symboliques ; culture dominante / subculture / subversion / mouvements alternatifs ; étrangeté / queer / représentations du corps ; modes d’expression de l’altérité.
