Intermediality and transmediality in contemporary artistic practices

Intermedialità e transmedialità nelle pratiche artistiche contemporanee

Le groupe de recherche interdisciplinaire des départements de philosophie et de langues et cultures moderne de l'université de Gênes, organise un colloque international sur les questions concernant l'intermédialité et la transmédialité dans les pratiques artistiques contemporaines. Hybridation, intermédialité, transmédialité, multimédialité, intersémioticité sont les termes qui nous permettent de désigner l'entrecroisement de ces pratiques où se multiplient les emprunts entre cinéma, photographie, art numérique, art vidéo, littérature, etc., quoique la distinction conceptuelle entre chacune de ces notions ne soit encore tout à fait consolidée. Ce colloque se propose de développer une réflexion autour de l'usage de ces notions à travers un débat théorique entre diverses approches disciplinaires.

Theories, attitudes and cultural representations of nutrition in ancient and medieval world

According to ancient biological theories, nutrition is, along with reproduction, one of the functions of the soul shared by men, animals and plants. At the same time, however, eating habits are among the starting points on which differences between humans, animals and plants are culturally built. This means that a transversal biological praxis can be used as an anthropological device, in order to to fix and identify specific boundaries and thresholds, either symbolic or theoretical, between both animality and vegetality on the one hand, and zoosphere and anthroposphere on the other hand.

The Wisdom of the Ancients. Jerusalem rediscovers Athens

The German-Jewish Revaluation of Ancient Philosophy

Between 1920 and 1930, a group of young, brilliant Jewish researchers studied in Germany under the direction of Cassirer, Husserl and Heidegger. Leo Strauss, Karl Löwith, Hans Jonas, Hannah Arendt, Jacob Klein, Eric Weil, Günther Anders, and others were forced by the advent of Nazism to escape from Germany and to wander around the world. All these thinkers strove to question the historicist assumption, according to which Modernity is to be seen as progress in respect to the Ancient thought. In their studies, they found new ways to listen to the voice of the Ancients, by revaluating them in the context of the crisis of modern thought. Starting from Athens and Jerusalem, the symbolic roots of western culture, these philosophers problematized and revitalized the quarrel between Ancients and Moderns over again.

El Seminario de 2015 tiene como hilo conductor los espacios insulares y de frontera en las edades Moderna y Contemporánea, así como las sociedades en que se asientan, en el contexto mediterráneo desde una perspectiva de la larga duración e interdisciplinariedad. El encuentro constituye una ocasión para reflexionar sobre el tema de la frontera como lugar de enccuentro, travesía y tránsito; al igual que sobre el rol de las islas y de las sociedades insulares, bien como frontera, bien como nodo en el seno de una tupida red de transmisión de saberes. La pretensión del Seminario es la de superar, también desde el punto de vista geográfico, el concepto de aislamiento, proponiendo, por el contrario, el de un sistema de islas en el Mediterráneo.

Spaces in action, actions in space

De quelle manière peut-on définir l'espace ? De quelle manière peut-on définir l'action ? Plutôt que de les envisager séparément, nous voudrions, lors de ce colloque, considérer l'espace et l'action de manière conjointe à partir des limites et des apports que l'un parait offrir à l'autre. L'idée est d'associer les réflexions qui dérivent du spatial turn avec celles des spécialistes qui travaillent plus spécifiquement sur la définition d'agency. Les participants sont toutefois invités à laisser librement interagir ces différentes dimensions avec les perspectives et les instruments qu'ils pensent être les plus adéquats à leur propos. En plus de l'anthropologie (de l'espace, du quotidien, du langage, etc.), nous comptons recevoir des propositions qui s’appuient sur les modèles d'analyse provenant de la linguistique, de la géographie, des études culturelles, de la sémiotique textuelle et de la sémiotique culturelle. Sont encouragées aussi bien des études à caractère théorique que des études de cas.

OLA (Observatory on Local Autonomy), a European network specialised in research on the organisation and management of local public services in Europe, is organising a symposium on “The Impact of the Economic Crisis on Local Administration and Public Services in Europe”, which will take place on the 30th and 31st of October 2014 in Bologna, Italy. It is being organised in collaboration with the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR). This two-day symposium will be the opportunity for 150 researchers, elected officials and local civil servants from the 32 European countries that make up the OLA network to come together to find worthwhile, cost-effective, and efficacious solutions to improve and simplify local public administration in Europe.

Civil societies faced with the resurgeance of segmentary logics

Ce colloque vise à analyser les processus de remise en cause de l’autorité et/ou de la légitimité de l’État dans cinq pays arabes touchés par ce phénomène : Irak, Syrie, Liban, Libye, Yémen. Il s’agira de comparer les différents processus en cours en les rattachant à un temps plus long et d'identifier dans les racines historiques des processus de construction nationale arabes les causes possibles du délitement des institutions étatiques auquel nous assistons dans les pays considérés, face à la tenue, réelle ou apparente, d’autres pays de la région, où l’Etat s’appuie sur des identités plus anciennes, y compris coloniales, et/ou sur des appareils sécuritaires omniprésents. La démarche s’appuie sur une dimension internationale et interdisciplinaire et s'adresse à l'ensemble des sciences sociales (anthropologie, histoire, sciences politiques et sociologie notamment).

Between home, family and business

Unpaid family and work obligations for the market from the end of the Middle Ages to the contemporary era

Ce colloque constitue une occasion de bilan des débats et d’approfondissement des nouvelles pistes thématiques ouvertes lors des rencontres précédentes du programme « Travail en famille, travail non rémunéré. Formes et acteurs du travail domestique productif en Europe (XV^e-XXI^e siècle) ». Le colloque portera, en premier lieu, sur les obligations légales, familiales et plus largement sociales liées aux activités marchandes effectuées par les membres de la famille dans la sphère domestique. En deuxième lieu, il a pour but de donner des aperçus qualitatifs et quantitatifs sur les retombées matérielles et immatérielles des multiples formes du travail en famille non rémunéré pour le marché. La dimension domestique ou extra-domestique des activités exercées par les différents membres de la famille sera analysée en fonction de leur caractère marchand et des différentes formes de leur (éventuelle) rémunération. La frontière entre prestations dues et travail impliquant une rétribution est cependant loin d’être nette et définie, ce que les débats autour du concept même de travail et de salaire, pour les époques anciennes comme pour celles contemporaines, montrent efficacement.

“Venetian” enamels on copper from the Italian Renaissance

Artistic geography, collecting, technology

Enamelled and gold flecked copperware are a rare and highly refined feature of the decorative arts of the Italian Renaissance, of which less than three hundred pieces survive, and which are traditionally referred to as Venetian. Admired and sought after in the 19th century, when the main European collections were built up, these objects, whose origins date back to the end of the fifteenth century, were subsequently forgotten. The cross-disciplinary conference will shed light on technical and manufacturing aspects, and the forms and decorations of these artistic masterworks, which can be found in major museums and collections throughout the world, and point to the socio-cultural context of which they are a product. An attempt will be made to define a corpus of forms and decorations, to identify clients and patrons, thanks mainly to research into heraldry and symbols, and finally to trace their arrival on the European and American art markets in the 19th and 20th centuries respectively.

Workshop no.2: instruments for administrative action

Organisé dans le cadre du programme Écritures grises, cet atelier ambitionne d'examiner les usages des instruments de travail des administrations d'Europe méridionale entre le XII^e et le XVII^e siècle. Quatre axes seront privilégiés, pour autant d’actions administratives : compter, archiver / mémorialiser, enquêter / informer, et décider. L’objectif consiste à dévoiler les coulisses des appareils de gouvernement que sont la Curie romaine, les chancelleries impériales, épiscopales, royales et urbaines. Il s’agira ainsi de faire ressortir la dimension la plus pragmatique du gouvernement et de l’administration, en nous focalisant sur les ressources et les techniques qui en instrumentent l’action.

Loin d’être des espaces fermés et repliés sur elles-mêmes, les Alpes ont toujours été en contact avec le monde extérieur par le biais des hommes et des marchandises qui les ont traversées. La thématique centrale du colloque sera l’étude du rapport entre les infrastructures et les phénomènes sociaux dans l’espace alpin de l’Antiquité à l’époque actuelle, puisque la présence d’importantes voies de trafic et de flux d’échange a été un élément qui a fortement affecté la réalité historique des territoires. De plus, la construction de nouvelles infrastructures et le déplacement des axes du trafic a produit des gagnants mais aussi des perdants parmi les groupes sociaux et les communautés alpines.
