Keep It Simple, Make It Fast! DIY Cultures and Global Challenges

    KISMIF Conference 2020

We are pleased to announce the fifth KISMIF International Conference ‘Keep It Simple, Make It Fast! Not Just Holidays in the Sun

Keep It Simple, Make It Fast! (KISMIF) Summer School 2020

The Keep It Simple, Make It Fast! (KISMIF) Conference 2020 will be preceded by a Summer School entitled ‘Not Just Holidays in the Sun’ on 7 July 2020 in Rivoli Municipal Theatre of Porto. The Summer School will offer an opportunity for all interested persons, including those participating in the Conference, to attend workshops directed by specialists in their fields. Our KISMIF Summer School program invites students who are interested in, or currently using, DIY cultures in their research to join us for an exciting and innovative one-day summer school program. The goal of the one-day program will be to encourage discussion and experimentation in the documentation of DIY cultures as much as it will be to encourage a new generation of DIY academics (Punk Ethnographers!) to experiment with digital cinema and performance in their research practices.

    Summer School - Thought

    Europhilosophy master winter course

5th congress of the International Ergology Society

Economic Nationalisms in the New Globalized World

How can be understood the 21st Century Economic Nationalisms? Is there any established relationships between States Economic Nationalisms and the current observed transformations of foreign policies? How to understand the British reluctance to pursue regional economic cooperation within the European Union (EU) through the BREXIT or the Chinese ambition to expand its economic cooperation through a wider extension of its commercial activities, especially as translated in the reactivation of the Silk Roads? Why, finally, do some states or governments prefer to confine their international domains of cooperation, while other seek to expand them?

The Portuguese Republic after World war I: the Azores, centrality and communications in the North Atlantic

Initially supported by the popular masses, the Portuguese First Republic was marked by social, political and economic instability, and a weak participation in World War I. The period from 1910 to 1926 was characterized by a partisan struggle for power, political and social agitation. Improvements since 1923 were not enough to counteract the growing discontent stimulated by intellectuals; a persecuted Church; an army and civil service without resources and an economically oppressed industry. The coup of May 28, 1926, put an end to this democratic regime starting a new cycle that, despite maintaining the previous political instability, prepared the Estado Novo, under the control of Antonio de Oliveira Salazar, interrupted in April 25, 1974.

    Call for papers - Modern

Archives, history, and memory from the Age of Revolution until the First World War

The long nineteenth century witnessed four major historical processes of the utmost significance: the modernisation of the state, nation-state building, the independence of the American colonies from Europe, and the colonisation of the African and Asian continents. The modernising of the state entailed its growth and bearing on the economy and society, the widening of the state’s role, the “bureaucratization” of its administrative apparatus, and protracted democratisation. Along came the reduction or removal of competing powers, namely the church and aristocracy. The state also became a vehicle for the enshrinement of private property, free enterprise and, increasingly, the freedom of association among citizens. In addition, the modernised state would favour and support nation-state building in a number of ways.

    When real work is taboo

    Revue Laboreal journal: July 2020

Thinking commemorations like ritualised practical spaces

At the crossroads of history and anthropology
