Thematische Schule - Soziologie
A escola de verão de análise de redes sociais é um programa de formação intensivo que pretende capacitar os participantes de métodos e técnicas de análise de redes sociais e que se realizará de dois em dois anos, beneficiando do ano de interregno do CIReS, em Évora. Enquadrada pela linha de promoção de análise de redes sociais do polo de Évora do Cics. Nova, esta Escola pretende, para além da dimensão formativa, reforçar a networking entre alunos, docentes e investigadores, nacionais e estrangeiros, que desenvolvem o seu trabalho em análise de redes sociais.

II International Congress for Young Researchers in Middle Ages

On 13, 14 and 15 November 2019, the II International Congress of Young Researchers in Middle Ages (ICYRMA) will take place at the University of Évora, Portugal. ICYRMA is destinated to students at master, doctoral and postdoctoral level and/or to those who have obtained their academic degrees in the last five years. It aims to be an interdisciplinary space for dissemination, discussion and contact among young researchers who study the Middle Ages from various perspectives: history, archeology, art history, literature, philosophy, philology, anthropology, ethnology, sociology, geography, methodology, among other areas.

2nd Congress International of Social Networks
Social networks occupy today an unprecedented centrality in developed societies. They are one of the most important components in the structure of social relations between people and organizations, through which they share values, expectations, interests and an immensity of flows that place them at a high level of complexity. Knowing and understanding this complexity, as well as the social networks and the multiplicity of configurations that are inherent to them, is one of the biggest challenges of our times. Today, talking about social networks, puts us on a new paradigm in the social sciences. In the dynamics of social relations, the actors involved in it, develop their interactions driven by diverse logics and strategies of action, putting challenges in their analysis and understanding to social intervenors and the academic community. It is in this context that the 2nd edition of CIReS.

First international congress for young researchers in Middle Ages
On 08, 09 and 10 November 2018, the 1st International Congress of Young Researchers in Middle Ages (ICYRMA) will take place at the University of Évora, Portugal. The role of health and social welfare policies in European inclusion and exclusion processes
Health risks created by population movement, and policy responses to them, have been an integral part of European history since the early modern period. They have helped to shape wider cultural ideas on economic risks, attitudes to integration, and enlargement of the EU. Twenty first century Europe is addressing new questions and challenges: how to live together, and include new territories and new populations and cultures without compromising our health, both personal and economic. These have contemporary policy implications. Our aim is to contribute to a deeper understanding of the cultural heritages and roots of the European welfare model.

CIDEHUS (Centro Interdisciplinar de História, Culturas e Sociedades) has one book collection with peer-review: Fontes e Inventários that publishes historical sources editing or inventories of archives and other collections. From now on, once a year, CIDEHUS opens a call for book proposals to general academic community and not only to the members of our research center.

A condição humana e o entendimento global: crises, diálogos e diásporas
VI Curso internacional de Verão da Escola de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Évora
Num tempo que perdeu o sentido construtivo das utopias, colocar lado a lado “condição humana” e “entendimento global” corre o risco de ser confundido com uma contradição em termos, como se a condição humana fosse inconciliável com a ideia de diálogo, de partilha, de entendimento global. E todavia, nunca como hoje foi tão premente e vital a redescoberta de caminhos que nos levem a um entendimento global. Mas tal urgência obriga ao redespertar da criação de utopias, ao seu reconhecimento como grandes vias que nos podem resgatar à depressão e ao caos da “sociedade líquida”. A sociedade líquida é a sociedade prisioneira de um tempo só, o do instante, o do imediato. E como nele não há espaço nem para o passado nem para o futuro, nele também não cabem nem memória, nem missão. A sociedade líquida é assim também como um mar de pequenos peixes ciclídeos, prisioneiros da sua incapacidade de reter o erro ou de projectar utopias, tristemente felizes na ilusão de que tudo sabem e de que tudo criam pela primeira vez.

Palaces and Urban Dynamics: Centers of power and knowledge in Europe
Palácios e dinâmicas urbanas: centros de poder e de conhecimento na Europa
The European palaces established more than mere residences of monarchs, princes, cardinals, aristocrats and bourgeois. They were centers of power, solid social and political symbols, and also production centers for culture, arts and science. On the other hand, they played a fundamental role by motivating the renovation and expansion of cities. In a broad sense, we can consider the palace as a center that marked not only the inner spaces, but also its surroundings. Starting from this premise and taking the opportunity of the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the construction of the so called Palácio de D. Manuel in Évora, this is the ideal context for organizing this international conference.

[Entre]vistas: desenho, aplicação e análise de entrevistas em investigação social
Curso livre
A Escola de Ciências Sociais da Universidade de Évora organiza um curso livre com dois objectivos principais: proporcionar a aprendizagem dos fundamentos teóricos e práticos que alicerçam o desenho, aplicação, tratamento, análise e interpretação de dados através de entrevistas semi-directivas no contexto da investigação científica em geral e qualitativa em particular; aprofundar e actualizar competências metodológicas de base necessárias à reflexão crítica sobre a natureza, contextos de recolha, vantagens e limitações dos dados obtidos através da aplicação da técnica da entrevista semi-directiva em áreas disciplinares diversas e contextos múltiplos da investigação científica, actividade académica e profissional.

La singularité portugaise présente de nouveaux ponts de communication comparative avec d’autres réalités territoriales et s’offre comme un rare laboratoire d’analyse sociologique. Des phénomènes de régression (structurelle et dispositionnelle), d’articulation de rythmes asynchrones, de changement social, de prolifération du risque et de l’incertitude, de conciliation conflictuelle de modernités multiples dans une modernité inachevée, nous défient de regarder sociologiquement ces 40 dernières années et, dans le même temps, de réfléchir prospectivement sur les tendances et défis du futur.
