  Eau et extractivisme. Des savoirs pour l’avenir des jeunes et de la planète

  Dans un esprit de partage et de convivialité, la journée d’étude entend documenter les pratiques et les problèmes relatifs à l’eau autour des activités extractives, donner la parole aux jeunes et surtout sensibiliser les dirigeants régionaux et l’opinion publique aux causes et aux conséquences sociales et économiques des industries extractives. Mais les problèmes sont complexes : comment les populations peuvent-elles s’outiller et s’organiser pour que ces prédations soient plus justement compensées ? À l’inverse, ces compensations, en légitimant de fait ces prédations, n’entretiennent-elles pas un système économique à l’origine des difficultés de vie des jeunes du territoire et du changement climatique qui affecte tous les habitants de la planète ?

  Second Ḥajar Online Workshop

  In the workshop organized by Hajar, three archaeological case studies which relate to agriculture and/or water management during Early Islam will be presented, followed by responses and a discussion. These will enable another examination of Andrew Watson’s arguments from the 1980s about an “Arab agricultural revolution” or “green revolution” - this time from an archaeological perspective.

  European Central Banking and German Occupation in World War II

  With the occupation of ever larger parts of Europe, National Socialist Germany extended its system of monetary policy and currency control to a growing number of countries. The occupied countries were forced to finance their own exploitation for the benefit of the National Socialist war economy with the aim to support the German war effort and to mitigate the consequences of war on German society. This conference aims at discussing the state of research and its prospects regarding the actors, objectives, and methods of Reichsbank monetary policy control in occupied Europe, the limits of this policy, the role of the central banks in the occupied countries, and the resistance to this form of monetary and fiscal occupation. Only a comparative view allows for a better understanding of the Nazi exploitation strategies in Europe.

  Second Summer School in Economic and Social History

  This Summer School offers comprehensive courses on research methods and central themes in Economic and Social History, as well as a framework for paper presentations from Ph.D. students who are starting their theses and already have a chapter or paper to discuss, and post-doctoral researchers with more advanced papers, possibly in the pipeline for publication. We aim to put together researchers with different levels of experience. We will have lectures by distinguished scholars in the morning sessions, and, in the afternoon, we will have the paper presentations by the researchers.

  La chapelle consulaire (XVIe-premier XIXe siècle)

  Le récent intérêt marqué pour la fonction consulaire depuis la fin du Moyen Âge jusqu’à la période contemporaine, n’épuise pas – loin s’en faut – l’étude de cette figure essentielle des échanges marchands, diplomatiques et culturels, dont l’activité se déploie à l’échelle aussi bien locale que transnationale. Parmi les pistes demeurées encore relativement inexplorées, la question confessionnelle invite à envisager les effets politiques, sociaux et économiques des problématiques religieuses sur le monde des consulats et des « nations » établis à l’étranger. La question du lieu de culte acquiert à partir de l’époque moderne une importance stratégique, dont cette rencontre entend esquisser les contours et explorer les contradictions depuis l’observatoire privilégié que constitue la chapelle consulaire.

  What is european history in the 21st century?

  Summer school in global and transnational history

  In the nearly half century since the EUI History Department was established, the contours of European history have shifted away from nation-based or comparative approaches. The department now defines itself a center for the study of transnational, global and comparative history. All of these approaches are implicitly about creating a new history of Europe, but how are they accomplishing this goal? What is the outlook for the future of this project? This summer school is devoted to asking, “What is European History in the 21st Century?” As historians call for the decolonization of history, and, simultaneously, face the historical distortions encouraged by resurgent populist nationalisms, reflection on the possibilities and problems of European history have never seemed more urgent.

  Pour son dix septième numéro, la revue Patrimoines du Sud a choisi une thématique très large, l’eau douce et les multiples patrimoines que la variété de ses usage ont suscités en Occitanie. Ce numéro s’inscrit dans la continuité de travaux de recherche menés au cours des dernières décennies par des chercheurs, historiens, historiens de l’art ou archéologues. Il entend apporter un éclairage sur la grande variété de ce patrimoine omniprésent en Occitanie par des contributions s’intéressant à des problématiques, des sites, des édifices ou des objets dont l’eau est le fil conducteur.

  The Mediterranean has always been at the heart of Venice’s interests during the Early Modern Period. A main source of its prosperity, the Inner Sea maintained its vital role even after the “northern invasions”, the battle of Lepanto and the “downturn” of the 17^th century. This seminar aims to explore the relationship between Venice and the Mediterranean between the loss of Crete, the last major dominion of Venetian maritime empire in 1669, and the end of the Republic in 1797.

  Frontière·s. Revue d’archéologie, histoire et histoire de l’art

  By its nature, its cycles and the diversity of its states, watermaterializes different notions of the border. It can representand indicate a limit, a rupture, a separation betweenspaces and human groups. Conversely, it is also a mediumof exchange and contact between communities andacts as a bridge between the terrestrial and spiritual worlds. For this seventh issue, the authors are invited to examine, amongother things: the physical boundaries of water as topographic and hydrographicobstacles, political and territorial boundaries, the social boundaries of water and symbolic boundaries based on the values attached to water.
