Le projet de cette initiative est de dépasser les préjugés pour interroger la nouvelle islamité faite de partage, de reconnaissance, de rencontres et d’ouverture qui structure désormais les relations et participe de la construction du vivre-ensemble en Afrique subsaharienne.

  Questioning the meaning of social work in the past and present

  Revue Dynamiques. Histoire sociale en revue - journal issue 7, September 2018

  Aujourd’hui comme hier, les assistants sociaux s’interrogent sur le sens de leurs pratiques professionnelles, et les finalités implicites de leur travail. Pour nourrir le questionnement aujourd’hui, on peut s’inspirer de ce que les travailleurs sociaux d’une génération précédente ont pu dire de leur métier, de leurs pratiques. La période 1970-1980 est en effet marquée par une interrogation radicale sur l’existence même du travail social comme corps professionnel et mode d’intervention de la société sur elle-même. Pourquoi ? Quels sont les questionnements ? Ont-ils évolué ? Quelles sont les issues ou les alternatives proposées ? L’objectif de ce numéro thématique de la revue Dynamiques. Histoire sociale en revue est de donner la part belle aux sources (archives, documents audiovisuels, sonores, publications, témoignages, etc.) qui permettent d’éclairer, d’un point de vue historique mais aussi sociologique, économique, philosophique, sociopolitique ou juridique, la façon dont les assistants sociaux s’interrogent sur le sens de leurs pratiques, de leur action et des aides qu’ils apportent aux populations marginalisées, des années 1970 à aujourd’hui.

  Globe, revue internationale d'études québécoises, sollicite des propositions d'articles en vue de la préparation d'un numéro thématique consacré au jeu vidéo au Québec. Ce numéro thématique s’inscrit dans la foulée des approches plus locales de l’histoire. Car s’il existe des histoires globales du jeu vidéo telles quePhoenix: The Fall & Rise of Videogames (Herman, 1994), The Ultimate History of Video Games (Kent 2001), The Video Game Explosion: A History from PONG to PlayStation and Beyond(Wolf, 2007) etReplay. The History of Video Games (Donova, 2010), celles-ci se concentrent sur « les gros canons », à savoir les productions américaines, japonaises et européennes. À l’exception du chapitre sur le Canada de Dominic Arsenault et Louis-Martin Guay dans l’ouvrage Video Games Around the World (Wolf, 2015) et de quelques articles publiés dans des revues, entre autres sur les jeux indépendants (comme le Vol 7, No 11 publié en 2013 par la revueLoading...de l’Association canadienne d’études vidéoludiques), on a peu écrit sur la création vidéoludique québécoise pourtant fort riche.

  Kids careers - comparative perspectives on childhood today and yesterday

  Regards croisés sur l'enfance d'hier ou d'aujourd'hui

  Les childhood studies connaissent, en France, un développement depuis plusieurs années. En témoignent les nombreuses manifestations scientifiques qui ont été engagées dans plusieurs disciplines : sociologie, psychologie, littérature, histoire, etc. L’intérêt pour l’enfance – qui correspond aux premières années de vie d’un individu – s’explique en effet par les différentes acceptions auxquelles le concept et ses corolaires renvoient : construction sociale, représentation des enfants, santé de l’enfant ou encore bien-être de l’enfant. Mais le regard porté sur l’enfance ne s’explique-t-il pas tout simplement par la place des enfants dans notre société ? Au-delà du fameux enfant roi, l’enfant, pris comme un citoyen en devenir, est l’objet d’attentions et, à plus forte raison, de mesures qui visent à le rendre autonome, à l’épanouir intellectuellement et à développer un sentiment d’appartenance à une communauté. Les réformes politiques engagées dans l’éducation en sont un exemple. Nombreuses, elles suscitent généralement des tollés et des inquiétudes. Ceci illustre bien la place importante que la société contemporaine confère à cet individu.

  Animal abuse - historical and archeo-zoological approaches

  Approche historique et archéozoologique

  A la fin du XVIIIe siècle, le philosophe Jérémy Bentham propose de changer radicalement le regard sur les animaux : « la question n’est pas peuvent-ils penser ? ou bien peuvent-ils parler, mais peuvent-ils souffrir ? » Depuis quelques années, cette préoccupation éthique s’est invitée dans le discours historique. Historiens et archéozoologues cherchent les traces tangibles, non pas des considérations sur l’animal, mais bien de la violence faite aux bêtes, non sans arrière-pensée militante parfois…La journée est consacrée à des interventions  abordant la maltraitance animale sous l’angle social, éthique et juridique mais aussi du point de vue animal : souffrances, blessures et traumatismes intentionnels subis. L’approche critique des sources et des protocoles d’analyse des restes osseux sera au centre des discussions.

  « Irrécupérable » est un terme qui qualifie ce qui ne peut pas être récupéré et qui donne donc lieu à un processus de disqualification, de relégation ou d’élimination. Le rebut ou l’irrécupérable est alors ce qui résiste à la fois à l’intégration et à l’élimination. Dans la langue française, ces deux termes s’appliquent aussi bien aux choses qu’aux personnes. Ce numéro de la revue Tracés entend interroger les différentes formes qu’empruntent ces processus d’impossible réintégration. Il propose de questionner la mise en échec de toute dialectique de réhabilitation, de récupération ou de recyclage.

  Stages of Utopia and Dissent, 50 years on...

  15 May 1968: the Odeon theatre in Paris is occupied by students and becomes the insurgent headquarters where every night militants recount the days' action in occupied factories to an audience of people camping in the auditorium. Youth rebellion was never as mythologised as that of the French students’ fight against institutional oppression. The effects were felt across the Channel, too – but the nature of those effects was, and remains, disputed. 50 years on… where are we? What remains of autogestion and emancipatory education? What remains of theatre inventiveness and sedition? What remains of a need for participatory audiences? What remains of utopia and dissent?

  Writing the city [into the urban]

  In the aftermath of the May 1968 uprising in Paris, Henri Lefebvre published in 1970 his classic treatise La Révolution Urbaine where he pointedly placed the urban in the centre of this revolution, identifying a theoretical need for the concept of the urban as a planetary possibility, one he considered more appropriate than a redundant notion of the city as a social scientific object. This workshop is a step in this direction where, coming 50 years after the backlash of ’68, this event aims to establish a conversation between the city and the urban by drawing on the notion of "ethnographic theorisation" where the theoretical potential of the urban can be harnessed from ethnographic insights of the city. It explores contingent ways in which the city can be written into the urban through manoeuvres that engage with the process of writing the city across disciplines from literary cultures to urban studies

  Global '68 - Solidarity in Alliance and Global History

  1968 was a year of offensives, uprisings, and demonstrations against capitalism and imperialism, for liberation and emancipation and the war in Vietnam was its epicenter. The events claimed many victories for democracy, equality, and emancipation, but also provoked deep, abiding repression. A counterfeit history has subsequently erased police violence and the deaths of participants, removed workers, women, students, and indigenous peoples from the picture, and eliminated anti-Americanism, anti-imperialism, anti-capitalism, as well as the profound influences of the wars and interventions in Algeria, Latin America, and Vietnam. “Global 68” will retrieve the aspirations, energies, memories, and histories of this worldwide movement and offer hope to a new generation of activists.

  L’ambition de cette journée d’étude est d’aborder l’impressionnisme en fonction des grandes idées de son temps, d’interroger son insertion dans le contexte intellectuel – scientifique et philosophique, mais aussi politique et religieux – de la France de la seconde moitié du XIX^e siècle, afin de mieux comprendre et « situer » la pensée de ses membres. Si ce contexte a fait l’objet de nombreuses études, celles-ci ont presque toujours été menées par rapport aux seules œuvres des impressionnistes, et non par rapport à leur pensée. En effet, aujourd’hui encore, poser la question de la pensée impressionniste, c’est peu ou prou se confronter à une inconnue. Y a-t-il une pensée impressionniste ? L’impressionnisme « pense »-t-il ? Le temps paraît venu d’y consacrer une attention particulière.

  The Publisher’s Discourse

  This issue aims to enrich knowledge and analyses of the words and discourse of publishers, that is to say, of those individuals who are responsible for the development, production and distribution of books or periodicals. We will adopt here a trans-national and trans-historic perspective (19th to 21st centuries) at the junction of the sociology of publishing, of cultural history and of intellectual history in order to identify points of convergence amongst various case studies. In what ways have publishers revealed themselves through their words and in writing since their debut as social figures in the 19th century through to their contemporary incarnations? How has the place of publishers in literary, intellectual and editorial fields been constructed by discourses that accompany the act of publishing?

  Sharing meals. Social aspects of eating and cooking together

  Eating involves many other dimensions than just ingesting food. It is especially a social act, as it involves the social position and relationships of the individual in all of the included practices: supplying, cooking, dressing, ordering, ingesting, clearing, washing-up, managing left-overs, etc.  This symposium offers to explore, with a social science approach, the different dimensions associated with sharing meals (non exhaustive): Cultural differences in the manners of sharing meals; Specificity of the sharing of cooking times regarding the sharing of meal times; Use of commensality as a social action mean; Symbolic representation of the benefits of sharing meals (psychological, physiological, social); Comparison of meals regarding other eating times (snacking); Political/Diplomatic use of meals; Organization, perception and role of meals in institutions (school canteens, hospital, nursing homes, prisons…).

  Gendering Humanitarian Knowledge

  Global Histories of Compassion from the Mid-Nineteenth Century to the Present

  The conference invites scholars to think about the notion of "humanitarian knowledge" in a multidisciplinary way, by combining perspectives such as gender history, the histories ofemotions and the body, literary and visual culture studies, global health history, as well as the history of institutions and their agents. All of them are useful to explore the transnational networks through which humanitarian practices and ideas have been promoted, disseminated and standardised.The conference brings together scholars interested in working on the history of humanitarian knowledge from a gender perspective. The interventions deal with stories of flesh and blood, which put women’s and men’s humanitarian experiences at their centre, in order to inscribe their local practices within a global history of compassion from the mid-nineteenth century to the present.

  Afin d’interroger et de discuter les usages (et mésusages) des répertoires féministes ainsi que les relations entre les mouvements de femmes et les États dans l’espace méditerranéen, le réseau de recherche « Reconfigurations » de la Philipps Universität de Marburg, associé à l’Université de la Manouba ainsi qu’à la Fondation Heinrich Böll de Tunis, organise deux journées d’étude interdisciplinaires à Tunis. Elles réuniront des universitaires investi·e·s dans les études de genre et les études féministes, travaillant sur et depuis différentes sociétés méditerranéennes et ayant le désir de mettre en perspectives leurs travaux.

  A Century of ILO action, 1919-2019

  The International Labour Organization (ILO) is about to celebrate its 100th anniversary. For historians, sociologists, political scientists, lawyers, economists, and anthropologists working on the ILO, this is a unique occasion to re-examine its origins, assess its experience over the century, and reflect upon its future and its (challenged) influence today. This symposium aims to assess the academic knowledge currently available on the ILO. It will also include testimonies from different actors involved in the work of the ILO (directly or indirectly), in order to debate on the future of the organization. The scientific committee welcomes communications about other organizations whose activities are related to the missions of the ILO’s mandate. The symposium covers the period from 1919 to the present.
