  Language and Performance: Moving across Discourses and Practices in a Globalized World

  European Journal of Theatre and Performance

  The European Journal of Theatre and Performance is inviting submissions for its next issue. Against the backdrop of a deeply diversified and often divided global stage, this issue wants to reconsider the fairly strenuous debate on the relationship between language and performance, which has surfaced repeatedly yet in various guises in the field of the performing arts. The editors more specifically invite contributions that critically inquire into how language either enables or impedes the creation and development of performance works, the dissemination of scholarly research, or the reconciliation of local traditions with international tendencies in both the arts and academia. The overarching aim is to shed new light on the intricate connections between language and performance by focusing on the various ways in which performance always operates on the microlevel of concrete practices as well as in dialogue with the macrolevel of larger sociopolitical and cultural contexts.

  Ce dossier pour la revue franco-brésilienne Confins cherche à mettre en évidence la manière dont les débats en cours au sujet de la construction de l’espace et de concepts tels que « territoire » et « territorialité » peut contribuer à approfondir la compréhension des réalités territoriales des peuples autochtones au Brésil. Au travers de travaux fondés sur des situations territoriales variées, et ancrés dans des champs thématiques et théoriques divers, tant de la géographie que de disciplines connexes, nous souhaitons permettre un rapprochement et un dialogue fertile autour d’analyses comparatives amenant à mieux comprendre les géographies autochtones au Brésil.

  La Fondation de la mémoire contemporaine lance un appel à contributions pour son prochain numéro des Cahiers de la Mémoire contemporaine. La revue a pour mission de rassembler des analyses historiques, culturelles ou sociologiques sur l'histoire des Juifs en Belgique. Parmi les sujets traités dans ses pages : les différents mouvements migratoires vers ou de la Belgique, les structures d’aide sociale, les processus de socialisation, la Résistance juive, les enfants cachés, la vie religieuse, les relations avec Israël, la reconstruction de la vie juive après-guerre... Les Cahiers sont également ouverts à des présentations de sources, des recensions d'ouvrages, des réflexions méthodologiques ainsi que des éclairages biographiques. Des études sur des sujets adjacents peuvent également être acceptées.

  Writing a city, inhabiting a city: the spatial representations of persecutions in occupied Europe (1940-1944)

  À l’occasion de la présente journée d’études, nous nous proposons de réfléchir à la manière dont l’imaginaire urbain renvoie à des territorialités qui sont simultanément habitées par les écrivains et artistes, l’occupant, les autochtones et ceux qui sont désormais considérés dans leur condition d’exclus, d’étrangers ou de « clandestins ». Nous invitons les contributeurs à s’interroger sur la part de la dimension spatiale dans les écrits (fiction, poésie, écrits intimes, théâtre, etc.) ou les réalisations picturales, musicales des écrivains, artistes et musiciens qui ont réagi face aux mesures introduites à l’encontre des Juifs.

  Jazz and gender issues

  Numerous works have shown how jazz constitutes a field that is mostly polarized around a certain construction of the « masculine », whether in terms of gender roles distribution or rules of socialization, or the way critical and academic discourses have emerged. Practical and aesthetic standards have been established in specific ways, operating in particular through a factual or discursive sidelining of the women, cause and consequence of an implicitly or explicitly negative perception of what is regarded as « feminine ». These phenomena of marginalization have led to specific subversive approaches by female instrumentalists and vocalists in jazz, both in terms of practice organization, of transmission, and socialization as much as on the musical content.

  Ce colloque sera l'occasion de faire se croiser divers champs scientifiques de la gastronomie. Cette thématique nous amènera à nous interroger sur la diversité, l’originalité, et la plasticité des territoires où la gastronomie se déguste, se « crée », s’ancre et infuse par les discours et les imaginaires. Comprendre où et comment la gastronomie est devenue un enjeu socioéconomique, environnemental et culturel, saisir sa place et sa diffusion dans l’espace social et ses représentations, appréhender son rôle dans la définition-redéfinition du local et analyser le traitement que lui réservent les artistes, sur la toile ou sur la page. De la terre à la table, quelles matérialités et idéalités empruntent la gastronomie et quels espaces tangibles ou imaginaires sont les témoins de ces créations.

  Revue « Astasa »

  Dans le contexte mondial de la pandémie de Covid-19, qui remet en cause nos organisations sociales, sanitaires, économiques, nationales et transnationales et qui bouleverse nos repères culturels, quels rôles, éventuellement nouveaux, l’art pourrait-il jouer ? La dimension planétaire de cette catastrophe sanitaire – qui a induit un effondrement de nos économies, la fragmentation de nos liens sociaux et des centaines de milliers de morts – nous invite à requestionner les pratiques artistiques. Elle interroge peut-être même la conception de l’art, en particulier en ses interactions avec la science, tant du point de vue de sa recherche formelle, de sa dimension critique, de sa finalité écologique, éthique, thérapeutique, que de ses modes de diffusion. S’il faut « apprendre à vivre avec le virus », dans quelle mesure et sous quelles formes l’art saurait-il accompagner les citoyens dans cet apprentissage ?

Multidisciplinary discussions will allow us to examine the terms of territorial imagery in Dutch visual culture, and their links with the formation of a national myth in the Early Modern Dutch Republic.

  The Myth of Versailles and European Courts, 18th and 19th centuries

  This symposium is organised in conjunction with the research programme “Court identities and the myth of Versailles in Europe: perception, adherence and rejection (18th-19th centuries)” led by the Centre de recherche du château de Versailles. The aim is to analyse the modus operandi of the myth of Versailles in the monarchic Europe of the 18^th, 19^th and 20^th centuries, taking into account the two contradictory yet complementary elements that characterise the idea of myth: the real and the reconstruction of the real. The focus of this conference will therefore be twofold: understanding how the different aspects specific to the identity of Versailles have fuelled an illusion, but also discerning how this illusion gave rise to other accomplishments, whether architectural, ritual or political.

  Christian-Muslim Missionary Encounters, Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries

  Mission and Modernity Research Academy (MiMoRA#3)

  The study of missionary work occupies a central place in the interdisciplinary body of scholarship on relations and exchanges between Christianity and Islam in pre-modern as well as modern times. Most notably from the nineteenth century onwards, missions became an essential aspect of the globalization and modernization of these two ‘world religions’. Scholars from various disciplines have discovered the missionary encounter as a ‘space’ par excellence to observe and analyze Christian-Muslim interactions, which range from rejection and conflict to dialogue and mutual exchange. This research requires the breaching of the boundaries between disciplines, languages, scripts, archival heuristics, geographical and chronological specialisms; and the creation of an interdisciplinary scholarly dialogue. The aim of this international and multidisciplinary week-long research academy is to stimulate further critical study of the multilateral research on Christian-Muslim contacts and relationships in missionary contexts.
