  Writing a city, inhabiting a city: the spatial representations of persecutions in occupied Europe (1940-1944)

  À l’occasion de la présente journée d’études, nous nous proposons de réfléchir à la manière dont l’imaginaire urbain renvoie à des territorialités qui sont simultanément habitées par les écrivains et artistes, l’occupant, les autochtones et ceux qui sont désormais considérés dans leur condition d’exclus, d’étrangers ou de « clandestins ». Nous invitons les contributeurs à s’interroger sur la part de la dimension spatiale dans les écrits (fiction, poésie, écrits intimes, théâtre, etc.) ou les réalisations picturales, musicales des écrivains, artistes et musiciens qui ont réagi face aux mesures introduites à l’encontre des Juifs.

  Influence practices in XXth and XXIst Centuries

  The field of influence activities is increasingly proliferating (advertising, propaganda, marketing, public relations, communication, soft power, social psychology, fake news, applied algorithmic, etc.). It is important to grasp not only their scope, but their extension, their dynamics, their practices, their logic, their techniques. Where and on whom do they work? What are their histories? Who are their practitioners? What are their pioneer fronts? Why is it important to consider them just as much each in their specificity, and together? What is the contribution of influence practices to the production of value (economic and political)? From the point of view of the present and from the one of long duration history, is not influence government (a form of governmentality) a major dimension of the deep neoliberal turn the world is experiencing nowadays?

  Science and madness, extravagance, exception

  Alchemists, magicians, outlaw scientists in italian culture

  This volume aims at exploring the ways of science as excess and madness (see Zangrandi 2011, 2017; Garlaschelli and Carrer 2017) or, in less tragic forms, as an opportunity to explore new paths of knowledge. Another goal is to shed light on the character’s evolution, tracing the roots of a literary and cultural trope that, since the 20^th century, takes on multiple configurations and plays manifold functions. Looking back to the past, this theme can be traced in the Romanticism’s rejection of the exact science and in the particular declination proposed by Leopardi in his Operette morali, or even in the disquieting image of the alchemist of the Renaissance, whose superior knowledge of natural phenomena turns into the extreme and a punishable hybris.

  The week: partitioning and uses of social time, 19th-20th centuries

  La semaine est évidemment une veille affaire puisqu’elle présida à l’invention du monde. Mais il se trouve que beaucoup l’oublièrent. Si ses usages, notamment religieux, ont longtemps ordonné l’organisation du temps collectif, ils tendirent à s’affaiblir dans le cours ordinaire des choses qui lui préféra d’autres scansions, quotidiennes, agricoles, saisonnières, etc. Une inflexion est cependant sensible à compter de la fin du XIX^e siècle. Le déclin (relatif) de la semaine religieuse s’accompagne en effet, et paradoxalement, d’usages de plus en plus nombreux de découpes hebdomadaires. Au théâtre, puis au cinéma, la « semaine culturelle » a le vent en poupe. Le monde des affaires ou celui de la politique tendent également à réordonner le temps sur un mode hebdomadaire. Ce sont les usages renouvelés du temps par la découpe hebdomadaire que cette livraison entend explorer, à partir d’une série d’essais empiriques centrés sur des pratiques ou des activités caractéristiques de la modernité occidentale.

  Ce dossier thématique pour la Revue d'histoire des sciences humaines vise à interroger les conditions par lesquelles se sont forgés les savoirs disciplinaires sur le film et le cinéma (en sociologie, psychologie, histoire, géographie, philosophie, esthétique, médecine, etc.) en réunissant des contributions qui pourraient adopter plusieurs points de vue, non exclusifs : des itinéraires de personnalités (célèbres ou méconnues), des lieux ouvertement dédiés à la diffusion, à la pratique et à l’étude du cinéma, ou développant des activités en lien avec le cinéma sans y être totalement dédiés, des expérimentations techniques, des films.

  Cet appel à contributions est destiné à un numéro thématique des Annales de Normandie sur l'histoire de l'historiographie régionale, à paraître au second semestre 2021. Il s'agit d'une réflexion sur les rapports entre les revues d'histoire régionale et les Annales d'histoire économique et sociale, fondées en 1929 et devenues en 1946 Annales. Economies, sociétés, civilisations. Deux axes principaux de recherche sont proposés : l'analyse de la place et de la fonction de l'histoire régionale et la réception des travaux publiés par les revues d'histoire régionale dans les Annales de 1929 aux années 1970; l'analyse des modalités de la réception et de la diffusion du paradigme des Annales dans les revues d'histoire régionale sur la même période.

  Le XXIe siècle nait de l’histoire tourmentée du XXe, avec ses deux guerres mondiales et les autres conflits de dimension européenne, comme la Guerre civile espagnole. Ce colloque, organisé par le groupe de recherche « MemWar. Mémoires et oublis des guerres et des traumatismes du XX^e siècle » du Département de Langues et cultures modernes de l’Université de Gênes, vise à analyser les modalités de transmission mémorielle de ces conflits au XXI^e siècle, les représentations de ces derniers, les points aveugles et/ou obscurs de ce processus mémoriel, y compris dans une optique critique (Ricoeur, 2003) et, enfin, comment se développent les rapports de force entre discours officiel et contre-discours.

  Revolutionary eloquence and rhetorical traditions (18th-19th centuries)

  Quel rapport une révolution politique, moment tout entier tendu vers le changement, et donc vers l'avenir, entretient-elle avec les modèles du passé ? Est-il possible de « se passer du passé » ? Le changement brutal, la « régénération » et la « table rase », leitmotive du discours de la Révolution française, ne sont-ils que de vains mots ? […] La question du rapport conflictuel et ambigu des révolutions politiques aux modèles du passé nous invite à réfléchir à la fois aux formes discursives, notamment rhétoriques, dont hérite la Révolution française, et à la manière dont cette dernière les récupère, les rejette ou les transforme, et à la fois à l'influence qu'exerce à son tour la Révolution française sur les discours des révolutions suivantes : là encore, s'agit-il d'une imitation (et, le cas échéant, de quel ordre ?), d'un refus, ou d'une métamorphose ?

  Eschatology is one of the central components of medieval Christian culture. The end of the world, the Last Judgment, salvation, Messianism, the Antichrist, the Apocalypticism and millenarianism are inescapable elements in what we may generally describe as "Medieval eschatology". It is the intention of the International Conference "The Medieval Eschatology" to provide a venue for reflecting on these as well as other eschatological issues that may be proposed.   The 11th annual international conference on Nordic and Baltic Studies

  Brexit has just happened and its consequences are not yet fully comprehended. Would the outcome be a return to a status quo ante the Brentry of 1 January 1973 in British-EU relations? Would Britain become a sort of bigger Norway tightly connected to the EU, but yet not fully a member of the united organization? Would Britain really continue to exist as such? Would Scotland, not to mention other territories, emulate London and decide on their own Brexit, this time from the United Kingdom, in order to rejoin the EU? Would actually Brexit become a pathway for other skeptical EU nations? Would Brexit rocket exclusive forms of nationalisms? Would the whole of united Europe collapse, on the long run, as a result of Brexit as the League of Nations had become toothless after the US Senate had vetoed the Pact of League of Nations? But what effect is going to have Brexit on Scandinavian countries which historically have been closely connected to Britain? How is it reflected in Scandinavian intellectual milieus, in mass-media, in public discourses? What about the Baltic states which received a strong support from Britain in key moments of their history, for instance when Royal Navy came at the rescue of Estonian and Latvian independence following World War I or in the process of re-enactment of Baltic sovereignty after the collapse of the Soviet Union?   Our symposium therefore aims to close this research gap by including all relevant disciplines (philosophy, literary studies, history of ideas ...). Contributions can deal with biographical aspects of the subject (to what extent did the French existentialists really read Nietzsche?), comparisons of the respective philosophies, or with questions pertaining to the topicality of the theses and matters discussed. We endeavor to cover the travel and accommodation costs for the speakers, but cannot guarantee them at the present time.

  The Classics in the Pulpit. Ancient Literature and Preaching in the Middle Ages

  The aim of the conference is to shed new light on this both striking and irritating practice. Papers (25 min) can deal with topics such as the reasons and occasions for the use of the classics in preaching, the hermeneutic and literary strategies applied in order to adapt pagan mythology to homiletic needs, the social and educational background of preachers and their audiences, the connections of classicizing sermons with other fields of literature such as vernacular poetry, or the discourse they provoked within the clerical milieu. Applications from all relevant disciplines (e.g. history, literature, theology, philosophy) are welcome.

  The period 1815-1848 not only was characterized by several waves of revolution in Europe, the Atlantic world and beyond, but also by large movements of migration. Although these migrations can often be associated with political uprisings, only few connections have been made between the study of migration history and history of political thought and practices. This one-day conference aims to bring together these different strands of research and to discuss how experiences of migration and cross-boundary mobility contributed to the formation of common revolutionary cultures in the period 1815-1848.
