What Art does in School / What Art does for Schooling

Works of Art in Schools and Universities (1880-2020)

On May 12, 1880, Jules Ferry, Minister of Public Instruction and Fine Arts, created the Commission de la décoration des écoles, on the proposal of the Director of Primary Education Ferdinand Buisson. This commission was responsible for studying questions related to the decoration of schools by means of paintings, maps and drawings; the constitution of small artistic collections for school museums; the choice of series of engravings to be given as a reward to children. The creation of this commission thus fulfilled the wishes of Victor Duruy, Minister of Public Instruction during the Second Empire, who had declared: "I would like the walls of our 70,000 schools to be covered, from top to bottom, with images." The desire to bring art into school, not only through the teaching of drawing and later the visual arts, but also through the establishment of a harmonious environment and school equipment with aesthetic pretensions, will be pursued throughout the Third Republic. This effort was not abandoned, but continues today, extending to all levels of education, from kindergarten to universities.

Les présentations pourront être issues des champs d’investigations suivants : littérature, arts (arts visuels, cinéma, musique), archives et manuscrits, histoire, sciences politiques et sociologie. La journée d’études est largement ouverte aux approches transdisciplinaires.

Cette journée d’étude a pour ambition de revenir sur la subjectivation de l’expérience comme soubassement de la preuve et de reconsidérer dans son processus, sa possible charge émancipatoire. En nous fondant sur l’expérience vécue comme accès à un rapport de soi, nous souhaitons réinterroger le caractère construit de l’expérience, la manière pour chacun de structurer la position de « l’autre » face à soi-même. Dans cette confrontation avec l’inconnu s’impose un dialogue de la « résistance » et de « l’émancipation » qui, sous la forme de la subjectivité, se retrouve inséré dans des narrations institutionnelles. Il s’agira ainsi de se garder de l’évidence de l’expérience afin d’interroger les modalités mêmes de son élaboration.

L'association Amériques de l'INALCO en partenariat avec l'ambassade du Pérou en France proposent une rencontre avec l'écrivain Pablo Landeo Muñoz et la présentation de son roman en quechua Aqupampa. Carlos Amézaga, ministre conseiller à l’ambassade du Pérou, prononcera un discours d’ouverture. La présentation du roman sera faite par César Itier (INALCO). Elle sera suivie d’un dialogue avec l’auteur Pablo Landeo Muñoz et d’une lecture d’extraits du roman (surtitrés en français). Cette rencontre sera clôturée par un concert de musique andine proposé par le groupe Paris Andes.

Exhumations, social conflicts and narratives in post-conflict Peru

Ce colloque vise à questionner l’impact du rapport final de la commission de la vérité et réconciliation (CVR) en tant que grand récit « officiel » du conflit armé au Pérou. Dans une perspective pluridisciplinaire, il s’agira d’analyser les répercussions des recommandations de la CVR et d’interroger « l’actualité » du conflit armé dans la société péruvienne. Pour mener à bien ce projet, nous avons souhaité faire dialoguer différents espaces, approches et disciplines faisant écho à ce sujet : notre réflexion s’articule ainsi au croisement de l’anthropologie, de la sociologie, de l’histoire, de l’archéologie et de la littérature.

De Gruyter and the team of the Art Market Dictionary (AMD) are currently looking for authors interested in contributing to their encyclopedia project. The AMD is the first reference work providing encompassing information on commercial art galleries, dealers, auction houses, fairs and advisers in Europe, the USA and Canada in the 20th and 21st centuries. Due to appear in 2020, it will be published in print and as an online searchable database. It is edited by Johannes Nathan and supported by a number of specialized institutions such as the Getty Research Institute, the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte, or the Archives of American Art.

The Centre Historique Minier organize an international conference on Health down in the Mine - Stakeholders and Healthcare Systems, on April 4 and 5, 2019 in Lewarde (France). In recent years, health issues relating to the mining industry have received renewed attention from historians and the social sciences: this is particularly the case with silicosis. At the same time, these issues represent, on a global scale, so many very contemporary questions, which are undeniable challenges for the future.The purpose of this conference, which will bring together 25 French and foreign speakers, is to open discussions on legislation, defining the disease, the instruments and stakeholders of health policies and also taking action as regards health issues.

L’année 2019 sera marquée par les commémorations du 80^e anniversaire de l’exil républicain espagnol. Cette année de commémoration est l’occasion pour la recherche de faire le point sur l’enrichissement des connaissances ainsi que sur notre compréhension de l’événement et de ses implications sur le long terme, en Espagne comme ailleurs. Cette historiographie a un caractère international lié à la nature de l’événement qui est à la source de l’exil : la guerre d’Espagne (1936-1939). Nous proposons donc de réunir un colloque de bilan historiographique les 8, 9 et 10 octobre prochains, à Albi et Toulouse, dans ce cœur géographique de l’exil espagnol en France.

Il a pour visée de repenser, dans une perspective transdisciplinaire, les cadres épistémologiques de l’analyse de l’image documentaire. Il réfléchira aux manières dont les films documentaires, maintenus dans une double marginalité, celle du documentaire et celle due au statut des femmes, ont agi comme des opérations d’intelligibilité du monde.
