Christianity in Iraq at the turn of Islam
The collapse of the Persian Empire and the retreat of the Byzantine Empire after the Muslim conquest led to important institutional changes for the Christians of the conquered areas. In Iraq, the Church of the East was no longer limited by the Sassanian Empire ruled by the Zoroastrians and gained new opportunities to expand. Nevertheless, it is difficult to restitute the reality of this ancient Christianity and to assess the modifications resulting from the conquests.

The evolving relations between nation-states and Kurdish areas
What impact on the modes of local governance?
The departments of contemporary studies of IFEA (Istanbul) and IFPO organize a workshop in Erbil, the 29th of May 2014. This workshop aims at analysing the evolving dynamics of the Kurdish populated areas in Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Iran. More precisely, it will focus on the changing interactions between the nation-states and the Kurdish political actors, and on the impacts of these transformations on the modes of local governance.

L’Institut français du Proche-Orient, Erbil, organise, en collaboration avec l’université Salahaddin d’Erbil et le SBAH de Bagdad, à Erbil, un colloque intitulé « Rencontre archéologique irakienne. Nouvelles découvertes, nouveaux projets », du 31 octobre au 2 novembre 2011, qui sera consacré à la présentation de nouveaux projets en archéologie, restauration et muséographie. -
