7th international conference of the Institut supérieur des arts et métiers de Sfax (ISAMS)
Pour sa VIIe session, le colloque international de l’Institut supérieur des arts et métiers de Sfax (ISAMS) propose d’aborder le sujet de la ville de point de vue de l’art et du design. Cette édition regroupera des contributions relatives aux ateliers participatifs, expérimentations urbaines, réflexions nouvelles et méthodologies innovantes qui illustrent l’importance des enjeux artistiques et culturels dans la production et l’appréhension de l’espace publique. Figuière, Boidin et Diemer dans leur ouvrage Économie politique du développement durable insistent sur le besoin de « formuler de nouvelles approches appuyées sur des indicateurs de soutenabilité forte » d’où l’importance de réfléchir des stratégies de développement durable. Nous prétendons à la valorisation de la recherche et à la promotion d’une vision élargie de notre espace de vie afin de proposer un projet complet pour la ville.

The notion of “urban fears” is not new but can be reexamined, in a newly initiated approach of an “emotional” approach to the city, a study of the emotions of inhabitants. “Urban fears” will be defined as collective feelings of anxiety, in urban populations, about events occurring or likely to occur in the city where they live, and for a sufficient period of time not to be considered anecdotal. “Dangerous classes” of the lowlands, riots, natural, climatic, environmental, epidemic, food disasters, irrational fears, rumours and urban legends will be the focus of our attention.

Plus de 120 communications aborderont avec des angles, des approches et des questions diverses le thème des Frontière/s. Comment s’exprime, en différentes époques, la notion de frontière en Amérique française? Comment évolue-t-elle au fil des siècles? Quelles sont ses représentations? Quels types de pouvoir impose-t-elle? C’est autour de ces questions que nous engageons les participant.e.s à proposer des pistes d’analyse empiriques, théoriques ou épistémologiques qui permettront de mieux problématiser la frontière.

Définir l’Italie comme laboratoire suppose d’analyser les contextes de fabrication des politiques urbaines aussi bien que les expériences de projet, les théories comme les pratiques, les héritages et les mutations tout autant que les orientations et les prospectives. En quelques mots, construire un savoir et une culture, mais encore tirer des enseignements et développer des outils opératoires pour appréhender le présent et enrichir les pratiques contemporaines.

Body, culture and identity in Lavapies, Madrid
From the individual to the collective
The objective of this Seminar is to stress the importance of a collaborative and participative way to understand through our senses. We want to explore connections between thinking and action in everyday city experiences, developing “in situ” actions. We consider that the knowledge of the space need space experiences. We aim to develop a collective, community exploration of the vital flow of the Lavapiés area in Madrid altering the classical relationship between artist, landscape and inhabitants. This exploration will allow the construction of an intangible map of audiovisual fragments, photo, phonographs, video art, performative actions. The direct experimentation of space helps us understand it, as well as "to perform it"; it helps us understand the aesthetic and emotional relationships we have with it. In order to get our objectives, urban artists, soundscape experts, theater groups, architects, philosopher, civil and social associations, citizens…will be invited.

Les conceptions de la nature et de la vie sont au cœur de ces pensées et des mouvements sociaux écologistes. C’est pourquoi ce seminaire abordera les pensées de la nature, la notion de vie dans la pensée européenne et japonaise, et comment ces notions prennent forme, circulent, sont adaptées et participent des transformations sociales.

While recent work has renewed our knowledge of medieval execution sites and of the internal layout of detention facilities, much remains to be done to understand the distribution of prison spaces and territories, in particular to shed light on the socio-spatial dynamics and logic of their establishment. These prison spaces evolved between the beginning and the extreme end of the Middle Ages, with prisons only multiplying from the 13th century onwards. These evolutions must be understood in close coordination with the evolutions of medieval justice and its spatial practices. Studies can be carried out at the scale of a building, a neighborhood, a city, a city, one or more regions.

Comment des événements, par définition éphémères, viennent-ils rencontrer des territoires existants et comment ce qui apparaît comme du provisoire peut-il s’inscrire dans la longue durée ? Comment, au delà des grands événements, la question même de l’événement intervient-elle dans la fabrique ordinaire de la ville ? Nous évoquerons ainsi les transformations spatiales (urbaines et périurbaines) et les impacts économiques (attractivité, emploi, etc.), environnementaux (coût énergétique, durabilité, etc.) et sociaux (risque de gentrification et renforcement des inégalités) des grands événements dans le monde, qu’ils soient culturels, comme les Expositions Universelles, ou sportifs, comme les Grands Événements Sportifs Internationaux (GESI), ou autres.

What is sport doing for integration?
Souvent les pratiques sportives sont mobilisées au service de ce que l’on appelle grossièrement « l’intégration », particulièrement dans les quartiers « populaires » (Gasparini et Vieille-Marchiset, 2008). Pourtant, on en sait assez peu sur ce que le sport participe à produire en dehors du sport. Lorsque manquent les éléments de connaissance systématisés et stabilisés, on se trouve assujetti à des lectures figées et globalisantes. C’est pour contribuer à une meilleure connaissance des effets du sport, que le collectif ELIPSIS (programme ANR-15-CE28-0001, atelier SHERPAS-Université d'Artois), organise une journée d’études le 20 septembre 2019. En invitant des acteurs variés de la recherche et de l’intervention, de France et de l’étranger, les débats porteront in fine, sur une mise en question critique de la notion centrale de la journée : « l’intégration ».

Cet intérêt est à mettre en relation avec les enjeux que pose leur gestion dans un contexte de montée en puissance de la problématique environnementale, mais aussi de leur présence croissante tant dans nos espaces (publics, privés, de travail, de loisir) que dans nos existences matérielles quotidiennes et nos expériences cognitives.

Nowadays, the assessment of environmental changes worldwide is indisputable. Interdependent processes – such as global warming, the extinction of species, soil depletion and scarce energy resources – deeply alter the living conditions in our societies, from a material and symbolic point of view. These systemic transformations go well beyond the physical environment or climate change; they can be understood thanks to the concept of “global changes” that has become a main research topic in the fields of social and environmental sciences over the past thirty years. For its thirteenth issue, RITA will dedicate its section Thema to American cities facing global changes.

In 1990, Judith Butler published Gender Trouble; a book which takes from French Theory to create an other, the Queer Theory, which does not bother with anatomical or social destiny to put forward the performativity of gender and of sexe. Quickly translated in many languages, Gender Trouble will have a very noticeable impact on literary and movie studies, rapidly generating a heuristic acting out. Paradoxically, the same can not be said about aesthetic studies. Why? What are the oppositions? How can the queer way of thinking give back their inherent infinite “openness” to works of art?

In a contemporary age in which “think globally, act locally” has become a slogan, has the propensity to favour local initiatives resulted in shifting loyalties, has it modified the level at which citizens feel their strongest sense of belonging? Has it altered conceptions of citizenship? Has it had any impact on the locus of power? Which conceptual tools are most pertinent when trying to apprehend the social, cultural and political dimensions of regions and regionalism in Canada? How has the territorial notion of “region”, which comes out of the European tradition, been articulated to adapt to the Canadian context, especially with regard to the question of belonging (communities, nations, etc)?
